Amelia yawned and held her arms out. She needed to sleep for a few minutes. Maya laughed at how quickly Amelia fell asleep.
"She is so much like Sophia."
"I spoke to grandma after I left the hospital yesterday. She's coming here with Sophia."
"What? I don't want my momma to be worried about me."
"She wants to make sure you're okay, and she wants to see the twins."
"When is she coming to DC?"
"She is probably here now."
"Livvie, my momma needs to sit down somewhere. The woman is in her 60's now. I couldn't talk her out of the invitro when she insisted on having Sophia. Now she might try to take these babies home with her."
Olivia laughed and the noise woke Amelia. A few minutes later, Maya's mom and sister peeked in the room and looked around.
"You're in the right hospital room." Maya said.
"Where are my grandbabies?"
"In the NICU."
"How are you?"
"I'm okay."
"Hi Olivia!" Sophia said.
"Hello Aunt Sophia."
"She's not your aunt."
"Yes I am."
"You're too little to be a real aunt."
"Mom says you are my great niece, so you have to call me Aunt Sophia."
Maya laughed at Sophia and Amelia. "You have met your match Queen Sophia."
Sophia always wanted to be the center of attention, and Maya loved spoiling her little sister.
"Mom how is she your real aunt? She's little like me."
"Sophia is my mom's little sister."
"What? Grandma she is your sister?"
"Yes."
"So who are you?"
"I'm your great grandma Bernadette."
"The babies are my nieces, right mom?"
"Yes." Bernadette said.
"The babies are your aunts, so you have to call them Aunt Savannah and Aunt Serenity." Sophia said to Amelia.
"No I don't. They're babies."
Sophia crossed her arms and stomped her foot. "Those are the rules Amelia!"
"You can't boss me around."
"Yes I can. I'm six."
"Okay, stop being a bully Sophia." Bernadette said.
"She has to follow the rules!"
"Aunt Sophia. Do you want Christmas presents?" Olivia asked.
"Yes."
"Are you going to be a good girl?"
"Okay. You can be my friend Amelia."
"Mom do I have to call her Aunt Sophia?"
"No."
"I have to get Karen from daycare and my kids have to eat dinner. I'll call you later mom. Thanks for coming to DC grandma."
"We're moving here. I know Maya needs me."
"Wow. Thanks. I really appreciate that."
Maya was overwhelmed with emotion. She wasn't expecting her mom to be so supportive.
"I'm going to a new school?"
"Yes, maybe you will be in Olivia's class."
"Are you going to call me Aunt Sophia in class?"
"No. You are going to call me Ms. Pope."
"Those are the rules." Amelia said.
"Can I go home with you Olivia?"
Bernadette looked at Olivia. She didn't want to ask Olivia to keep her kid, but she would really appreciate a break.
"Okay, you can have a slumber party with Amelia."
"Thank you." Bernadette said.
"Let's go princesses." Olivia said.
