Martin called Daenerys up to the walls of Marshank. "There's a fleet of vessels approaching," he said.

Dany was instantly alert. "Is it the pirates returning?"

Martin shook his head. "They're not big ships like the Seascarab. They look like shrew logboats. Shrews are friendly creatures, for the most part."

Dany looked out to sea. The shrew boats were hugging the coast, traveling along the shoreline. Soon, she saw the creatures inside the boats moor them and disembark. They started making their way across the beach toward the fortress. Most of them were shrews, but Dany could also see a mouse, a big cat, and two or three humans. And one of them was Jorah!

"What's he doing back here?" Martin wondered. "I thought you told him not to come back."

"I'll take one of my dragons and go see what he wants," said Dany. "I want you and Ser Barristan to come outside too."

She went down to the prison pit and released Rhaegal. He was big enough for her to ride now. She climbed on his back and they flew over the wall.

They landed on the sand right in front of the visitors. Martin and Barristan slipped through the doors and stepped outside too.

"Why have you returned, Ser Jorah?" Dany demanded. "And who are all these other people?"

"We've come to help you, your grace," said a fat bald man. "My name's Lord Varys."

"Lord Varys?" said Dany. "You're the one Jorah was passing information to. You were in charge of all the assassination plots against me!"

"He was intentionally setting each plot to fail, though," said a dwarf at Varys's side. "He's been on your side this whole time."

"Who are you?" Dany asked him.

"That's Tyrion Lannister," said Ser Barristan. "Things must be going good for you because he only shows up when something important is about to happen."

"Lannister?" Dany said. "Jaime Lannister was the man who killed my father."

"I'm his brother," said Tyrion.

She eyed him suspiciously. "How do I know you are who you say you are?"

"I think it's pretty obvious," said Tyrion. "There's not that many dwarfs."

"You look more like a hobbit to me," said Martin.

Dany ignored this remark. "If you are Tyrion Lannister, why shouldn't I kill you to pay your family back, for what it did to mine?"

"You want revenge against the Lannisters?" Tyrion said. "I killed my mother, Joanna Lannister, on the day I was born! I killed my father, Tywin Lannister, with a bolt to the heart! I am the greatest Lannister killer of all times!"

"So, I should welcome you into my service because you murdered members of your own family?" said Dany.

"Into your service?" he said. "Your grace, we have only just met. It's too soon to know if you deserve my service."

"Why did you come to me then?"

"I learned about you from Varys," he told her. "A lost girl born in a storm, who with virtually no assistance managed to hatch three dragons, break Mossflower's slave trade, and conquer the Eastern Coast. I thought someone like you might be worth living for, when I've lost everything I lived for until now."

"And who are all these animals?" Dany asked.

Gingivere bowed. "Your grace, I am Gingivere, son of Verdauga Greeneyes and brother to Queen Tsarmina. I have broken loyalties with my family, because my sister killed my father and framed me for it. Now she and the pirate captain Clogg are on their way here to attack you."

"And I'm Gonff, the best thief in all Mossflower!" said Gonff. "I helped these buckos break out of prison, and I decided to come along with them and join you, because I wasn't doing anything else at the time."

"I am Log-a-Log, chieftain of the Guosim!" said the leader of the shrews. "That stands for Guerilla Union O' Shrews in Mossflower. After he and his amigos escaped from Tsarmina's dungeons, Lord Varys hired me and my crew to take them across Mossflower in our logboats. Now we will stay and fight with you. We will help to rid Mossflower of the two tyrants, Tsarmina and Clogg!"

"Okay," said Dany. "You can all come in."

"What about Ser Jorah?" Martin asked.

Dany looked at Jorah. "Hmm. Not sure about him."

"Khaleesi, please give me another chance!" Jorah begged. "I promise I will serve you faithfully!"

"You should trust him," said Varys. "It's thanks to him that you've survived all these years."

"All right," said Dany. "I'll give you one more chance, Ser Jorah. But if you betray me again, you know what will happen to you."

"If I betray you again, you have my full permission to burn me alive," said Jorah. "But that won't happen."
