Silver Beast: Freedom
"Would you quit it already? It's not going to be straight!" Inuyasha grouched.
"It will be if you stop touching it!" Kagome fussed as she tried to fix his graduation cap.
"You both look so cute!" Alice gushed as she took another picture on her camera. "Quick! Come stand over here by the roses before we run out of time!"
"Mom, we still have twenty minutes before we are supposed to line up." Kagome laughed as she and Inuyasha stood together in their red graduation robes.
"I know but all the other parents are taking up the good spots to take pictures!" Alice pouted. "I want to make sure I have at least a couple good pictures of you before you run off."
"Whatever you say mom." Kagome giggled as she leaned into Inuyasha's side and smiled for the camera.
"Inuyasha, we will be inside." Kagura said as Sesshomaru led Rin ahead of them towards the gymnasium. "Be sure to pick up your things on the way out. Your brother wants to leave as soon as possible."
"Feh! No kidding." Inuyasha huffed.
"Hey Kagome!" Eri yelled as she, Yuka, Fred, Eddie, Ayumi and Abbie walked over. "Want to take a group picture with us?"
"Sure!" Kagome said just as Koga, Ginta and Hakkaku got out of their truck. "Come on guys! Let's all get in!"
"Oh uh, thanks." Koga smiled as he and his cousins rushed over towards the group.
He was annoyed that the group didn't open up a spot for him to be by Kagome, but considering how much he was struggling to keep his demon in check it was probably for the best. Once he was away from humans he could talk to Kagome in private.
"Here, I'll take it for you." Sota offered as Mrs. Higurashi took another photo of them gathering together.
"Thanks Sota!" Eri smiled as more and more of their classmates poured in for the group picture. "Everyone say, Tama High!"
"TAMA HIGH!" everyone cheered together.
"That's a good one." Sota chuckled as he looked over the photo. "You should do a funny one."
"Alright, everyone make your silliest face!" Yuka yelled.
"Say, cheese!" Sota yelled as he readied his camera.
"CHEESE!" everyone laughed.
"Can you make sure I get a copy of those?" Alice asked.
"Sure! I can email them to Kagome later tonight!" Eri said as everyone looked over her shoulder to look through the photos.
"We best get inside." Grandpa Bob suggested as he looked at his wrist watch. "We don't want to miss out on the good seats."
"Have fun in there honey." Alice said as she kissed Kagome on the cheek. "You too Inuyasha."
"Thanks." Inuyasha blushed as he awkwardly hugged her back.
"Come on guys!" Fred called. "Let's get this thing over with so we can party!"
"I'll cheer for that!" Kagome giggled as she pulled Inuyasha along behind her.
To Inuyasha's annoyance the graduation ceremony took longer than expected. The class valedictorian's speech was only meant to last 10 to 15 minutes. Hojo ended up rattling on for well over 30. By the time the rest of the speeches had been read they'd been sitting in the gym for close to an hour. With well over 300 students in attendance it was going to take close to another hour and a half to get everyone across the stage. On top of having to sit there forever, the seating arrangement had been done alphabetically. Seeing how Taisho was nowhere near Higurashi he didn't get to sit next to Kagome and was towards the very end of the list. The only highlight of the ceremony in Inuyasha's opinion was watching Kagome receive her diploma. She looked so beautiful walking across the stage. The red graduation gowns look horrible on everyone else. She somehow managed to pull it off with elegance and grace.
He thought it made her look classy and grown up. She looked like a woman on a mission; ready to conquer the world. Plus, the way her face lit up when she saw him watching her was worth every little discomfort in his book. When it finally came time for him to walk across the stage, he'd looked over towards the spot his family was sitting at. Although it saddened him that his parents weren't there it meant a lot to him that his brother and sister-in-law were willing to sit through this shit for him. He'd screwed up alot in his life so far. It was a miracle really that he was graduating at all. He considered dropping out hundreds if not thousands of times. He wasn't great on computers however so online school and GED prep wasn't going to cut it. He'd end up dropping out all together if he did that. Then where would he be? He wouldn't have met Kagome, that's for sure. She'd probably think he was even more of a loser than he already was.
Thankfully he'd had some amazing people help him along the way. After today however he was his own man. He needed to show his pack that he was dependable. He wanted Kagome to see that he was worth loving. He had to prove to everyone that ever doubted him that he could do anything. He wasn't just a half breed. He was Inuyasha, silver prince and future beta to the Taisho clan. He hoped wherever his parents were in the afterlife that they were looking down at him with pride. When it finally came time to throw their caps into the air he looked through the rows of students until he stared at the back of Kagome's head. Somehow she knew he was watching her because she turned around and sent him the happiest, most excited smile he'd ever seen. It made him feel really good seeing her so happy. As soon as they'd flipped their tassels on their caps and finished singing their alma mater one last time he threw his cap into the air and howled.
At last... they were free.
After that, things went by pretty quickly. As the band played the traditional graduation song, pomp and circumstance they filled out row by row into the band room. There they picked up their year books and awed over the promo photos. Everyone made sure to get last minute signatures in their books and selfies on their phones before leaving with their families. Being that Port Hardy was a small town the likelihood of running into these people out of school was pretty high. Both he and Kagome agreed however that most of the students at Tama High they could live on without seeing them ever again. It was only their few close friends they really cared about. After they'd eaten a huge lunch at the local pub Inuyasha kissed Kagome goodbye and made plans to pick her up around 7 for the graduation party.

"What do you think of this one?" Kagome asked as she held a white blouse up to her front with a sparkly pink one in the other.
"The pink one." Alice said as she looked through her daughter's jewelry. "I think it would look good if you wore your hair up with a pair of dangle earrings.
"What about shoes?" Kagome asked as she slipped on the pink top.
"Those tan platform sandals we bought a couple weeks ago would look cute." Alice suggested.
"Ooo yeah..." Kagome agreed as she quickly went to her closet to dig them out. "Thanks mom for your help!"
"Of course dear." Alice chuckled as she sat on the edge of her bed. "Just remember to be safe and watch your drinks. You don't know who's coming to this party. If you think things are getting rowdy come home."
"Duly noted." Kagome nodded just as the doorbell rang downstairs. "Shoot, that's probably him!"
"I'll tell him you'll be down in a minute." Alice said as she opened Kagome's bedroom door.
"Thanks mom." Kagome said as she quickly pulled her hair up into a cute ponytail and touched up her makeup.
Knowing how much Inuyasha hated waiting she grabbed her jean jacket off the back of her desk chair and quickly went down the stairs. Her heart leapt into her throat when she looked over his outfit. Although he was only dressed in black skinny jeans and a v-neck t-shirt he somehow looked sexier than usual. Maybe it was the way the light in the living room made his dark messy man bun look richer and silkier than normal? Or was it the way his dark brown eyes heated with lust when he looked at her? Whatever the reason, it had her gripping the stair railing a little tighter to keep from falling. She wasn't sure how she'd gotten so lucky to win the affection and attention of Inuyasha. He was way out of her league in looks in her opinion. Everywhere they went girls would drool at him. It bothered her at first but knowing his eyes were only for her made their jealousy even sweeter. This hot dog was hers and she couldn't be happier.
"Hi..." Kagome blushed as she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
"Hey." Inuyasha smirked as he pulled her into his arms and planted a soft lingering kiss on her lips. "Are you ready to go?"
"Yeah..." Kagome sighed blissfully causing his smirk to widen.
"You two have fun!" Alice called from the kitchen as Grandpa and Sota played chess at the dinner table.
"Bye!" Kagome waved as she closed the front door behind them.
"You look nice." Inuyasha said as he pulled her towards his car.
"Thanks, you too." Kagome blushed as he opened the door for her. "Where's your motorcycle?"
"It's supposed to rain later." Inuyasha said before hopping on his side. "Do you not like my car?"
"I love your car!" Kagome said as she ran her hand over the dashboard. "You just ride your bike more often."
"Gas milage is cheaper and it allows me to detour around traffic jams if I want to." Inuyasha shrugged. "Can't afford to have the coppers after me now can we?"
"No, I guess not." Kagome giggled. "Do you know where we're going?"
"I've been in the area before so it shouldn't be too hard to find." Inuyasha said as he typed in the directions on his GPS.
"I hope it's not too crazy." Kagome sighed as she fastened her seatbelt. "You're not the only one that wants to avoid the cops."
"Feh." Inuyasha frowned as he started up his car. "If we get there and it's too wild we'll go do something else."
"You sure?" Kagome asked as he turned out of the reservation's parking lot.
"Absolutely." Inuyasha smiled before he kissed her knuckles. "I can't not take out my girlfriend when she's looking so pretty."
"You've got a line for everything don't you?" Kagome laughed.
"Only when it comes to you wench." Inuyasha smirked, only making her laugh harder.
