Hate

Her words both surprised and pleased him as he leaned closer to her yet, his lips a breadth away from hers. "You are nervous now," he stated, watching her, listening to the sound of her heart race. Carefully, he slipped a clawed finger under chin and forced her to meet his eyes.

"Yes!" she squeaked with no hesitation, this close to following over the back of the couch in an attempt to get away from him.

He smiled and it was indeed a scary, scary sight. "Why?"

This time she did hesitate, wondering if her words would distance them further. Finally, she shrugged, and turned her face away from him, giving him her cheek. "Because you hated me not to long ago," she murmured.

The words were soft, quiet even to his own superior hearing and for reasons he did not care to analyze, they irritated his beast. Slowly, so she would see he meant her no harm, he stepped away from her, his arms dropping to his sides as he gave her space. "This one does not hate you, or wish to harm you." He tried to make the words as sincere as possible, let them fill with a little bit of warmth, the same as his eyes.
