Chapter 47 – Nevaeh de Montignac
Nevaeh's feet were killing her and all she wanted to do was sit down, or even go to bed and lie down. Sleep, even, if she could. She had been talking with guests all evening and all night, but Jesse was nowhere to be found. Where was he? She started looking around for him but couldn't find him anywhere. Maybe he had already gone to bed? Possible.
Nevaeh let out a little chuckle as she sipped on a glass of lemony sparkling water. Oh, how she would love to be sipping on Champagne, but that was not an option at the moment.
"Have you seen Jesse?" Sydney said, joining the Duchess near the drinks table.
"No," she replied. "He probably retired to bed or something."
"Pfft. Without telling you? I doubt it." Sydney winked at Nevaeh, nudging her playfully in the arm. "So, how long have you two been together? Jesse hasn't been really talkative recently. Is he okay, by the way?"
Nevaeh nodded. "Yes, I think he's doing a little better," she replied. How much did Sydney know or had noticed? "And we've been officially together for… I don't know, a couple of weeks maybe?"
"Huh… What changed?" she asked. "You two weren't talking to each other, right?"
Nevaeh shrugged. "Yeah, well… it was getting tiresome to ignore him, and the other way around, too," she said. It wasn't a lie, but if was not the entire truth either.
"I see," Sydney said, sipping on her wine. She cast a quick glance towards Nevaeh's midsection but didn't say anything, leaving Nevaeh to wonder if the baby bump was visible already, or if her story of being tired of ignoring Jesse was not plausible enough. Oh, well. They would have to tell others, eventually…
"If you two are looking for Jesse," Otis said, coming with his drone in his arm, "he's sleeping over there." He pointed to the wall. "Oh, and my drone's battery is down, so I think I'm gonna call it a night. We have enough Valerie footage to last a lifetime–"
"Valerie?" Nevaeh said. "His name is Valerian."
"Yeah, I know," Otis replied, smirking. "But mash Valerian and Essie, and you have Valerie. Jesse came up with it a few weeks ago, preparing ship names for Valerian and all the girls from his Elite."
Nevaeh rolled her eyes. Of course, Jesse would do that. Why was she still surprised? "Well, thank you for pointing out his location, I'm going to see if I can wake him up." With that, Nevaeh bid them goodnight and headed in the direction Otis had shown earlier. She walked with purpose, making people stand aside to let her pass.
She smiled fondly at the man she kind of loved – she still wasn't entirely sure where she stood in that matter, but since he was the father of her baby, she might as well give him a chance, and herself too – who was sleeping on a very uncomfortable chair. His had completely fallen to the side, and she grimaced at the pain in his neck he would have upon waking up.
She walked up to him and half-kneeled, half-crouched in front of him, and gently put a hand on his cheek, trying to wake him up. If she could coax him to go to bed, it would be a small victory. "Hey," she said softly. "Jesse? Wake up…"
Jesse woke with a start, inhaling sharply, but when he saw Nevaeh's face, he smiled. "Oh, hey," he said. He rubbed his face. "How long have I been out?"
"I don't know," she said. "Come, I'm putting you to bed, right now."
"Pfft," he said, "I'm not a baby." But he let her guide him out of the ballroom, up the stairs, and down the hall. "Hey, that's not my floor," he said, confused. He was still a little sleepy, and he may have had a few drinks.
"I know. Come on," she said, holding him by the hand. She opened the door to her room and sat Jesse on the bed. Being sleepy and half-drunk, it was not easy, but she managed to undress him to his boxers and socks and tuck him on the left side of the queen-size bed. She still needed to get herself ready for bed, so she kicked off her shoes, went to the bathroom to change into her cute nightie, take off her makeup, and brush the hairspray from her hair.
"Ugh, being a guy is so much easier," she mumbled, brushing away furiously. "They can just crash into bed without any preparation. So unfair." She sighed and continued her routine, but when she was ready, she went back to her room, where Jesse was snoring like a freight train in her bed. For some reason, she knew he wouldn't wake up for a few hours, so she didn't even bother to be gentle when getting in bed next to him. He did roll over and put an arm around her, but at least he wasn't snoring anymore.
Being as exhausted as she was, she fell asleep pretty quickly and only woke up when the sun shone in her eyes. Again, she had forgotten to close the curtains – Hanna was usually the one to do it, but since she still hadn't come back from France, Nevaeh was on her own.
Nevaeh tried to get up to go close the curtains, but a strong arm was pinning her down. She turned her head to look at Jesse: he was grinning, looking at her with one eye open. "You're not going anywhere, m'lady," he said, snuggling his nose in her neck.
"Let me just go close the curtains, I'll be right back," she said.
Jesse opened both eyes. "You promise?"
"Yes."
"Okay fine." He took off his arm from her and Nevaeh was able to go to the window. But before she left, she gave him the Tic-Tac box that was on her nightstand.
"Please take a few of these, Jesse."
Jesse mumbled something but he popped some into his mouth.
"Oh, my God!" she said, opening the curtains.
"What?" Jesse asked, sitting up but covering his eyes. "It's too bright, close the curtains…"
"There's at least 3 or 4 feet of snow! Look at this!"
Jesse kicked the covers away and joined Nevaeh by the window. He stood behind her, wrapping his arms around, his hands resting on her tiny bump. "How is that possible?" he asked. "It wasn't snowing last night, was it? Or was I too sleepy or drunk on excitement about Val to notice?"
Nevaeh leaned against him and shook her head. "It wasn't snowing at midnight, and I didn't notice later. Maybe it just snowed really heavily for a few hours? I don't know."
"Well, one thing I do know is that the bed is calling us and I'm not setting foot outside until I'd had a good cuddling session with you," he whispered in her ear.
Nevaeh laughed softly and turned around in his arms. She placed a soft kiss on his lips and smiled. "Deal. But then, I'm challenging you to a snowball fight."
Jesse lifted Nevaeh and carried her back to the bed, where he resumed kissing her. Her neck was warm and soft, and he nuzzled her, tickling her and making her giggle. They cuddled for some time, saying silly things and kissing and giggling.
"We could call her Evanilda," Jesse suddenly said when a silent moment passed between them. He slowly walked two fingers on her belly, smiling.
"Eva-what? Is that even a name?" Nevaeh replied. "What if it's a boy?"
"Then I guess you can name him," Jesse answered. "You're team boy, I'm team girl, remember?"
"Right." Nevaeh thought for a moment. "Something French. Uhm, Benoît?"
Jesse made a face. "Illéans cannot pronounce that to save their lives, and his name is going to be twisted all the time." He placed a kiss on her belly button. "What about Wanderson?"
Neveah burst out laughing. "Jesse! Those aren't even real names!"
"They are… in Brazil. I think."
Nevaeh rolled her eyes. "Yes, well, we're in Illéa and he or she has a French mother."
"True. And what a sexy mom they'll have," Jesse said, climbing on top of her. "What about Schrödinger?" Jesse said, kissing her ear. "Or Balthazar." He kissed her other ear. "Or Seraphina-Joy?" He stopped kissing her and just smirked, looking at her. "No?"
"Jesse, that's not even funny." She sighed. "Look. if you're going to say stupid names, let's not talk about it. I still have many months to go, so we have time." She gently pushed him off of her and rolled out of bed. "I have to pee."
"What about Epaminondas for a boy, and Corona for a girl?" he called after her.
"Just– stop it," she said, closing the door behind her. But it also made her smile, if she had to be completely honest with herself. Jesse had really accepted the whole 'they-were-going-to-have-a-baby thing' and she was relieved. Of course, she was still terrified about it and she didn't know how to announce it to her family without sounding like a… well, a woman who had a one-night-stand and couldn't even use a condom, for crying out loud!
She put a hand on her belly and smiled fondly at her growing baby: now it was done and she would have to deal with the consequences.
Nevaeh washed her hands and went back to her room, where Jesse was still lying in bed with his phone.
"Okay, here this," he said, reading something on his screen. "What about Leopoldina? No? Uhm, Chavez, for a boy. It does sound a little French. Or Frankie… wait for it… Stein!" he burst out laughing at his own joke.
Nevaeh just rolled her eyes and went to sit on the side of the bed. "Are you done?"
"No, I also have Lucifer, Bernadette, Hunter, Shooter, Vanity – that's pretty cute – or even Batilda?" He offered her his most innocent smile, batting his lashes at her. "No?"
"No." She ruffled his dark curls. "Come on let's get dressed and–"
A shout coming from the gardens made them both look up and they ran to the window. Nevaeh pulled the curtain open to see better, and she laughed when she saw Nathan and Valerian dressed in nothing more than jeans and sweaters already throwing snowballs at each other, just like they used to do when they were kids.
"Come on! Let's go, too!" she said. She headed for her walk-in closet where she found an old pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and a sweater, and then slipped on a pair of boots.
"But – what about the baby?" Jesse asked, still only in his socks and boxers. He was pulling on a t-shirt. "Isn't it dangerous?"
"I'm just gonna throw snow at you, come on!" Nevaeh knew that snow would make her act like a little girl, but she didn't care.

When she arrived downstairs, she saw the girls huddled in the doorway leading to the terrace, not really knowing if they could join the princes or not. Nevaeh didn't ask herself such questions and just walked outside. She crouched in the snow and started packing a fist-size snowball. Jenissa was the first one to follow her outside.
"Nevaeh, are you sure you should be doing this?" someone whispered, packing snowballs as well. Of course, Jenissa would know to make them, since she was from Labrador and probably have snow from October to April, as it was.
"Whatever do you mean?" Nevaeh asked, all innocent.
Jen cast her a sidelong glance. "You haven't been drinking wine for the past two months, and I covered for you last night when Nate pried." She paused as a couple of other girls joined them in making snowballs.
Nathan and Valerian were also making some, joined by Jesse who had been caught in the excitement of the snow. Soon, Ximena and Silas joined them outside, followed by Henri and Pallas – wait, had they spent the night together? Nevaeh wondered.
"It's perfectly fine," Nevaeh said, not denying what Jen was thinking. "But thank you for your concern." She turned towards the five boys. "Are you ready?" she asked.
"More than you are!" Nathan replied, throwing a snowball at the group of girls. Nevaeh dodged easily and it was Ashia who got the snowball in her chest instead. Followed a chaotic snowball toss, with snowballs flying both ways. At first, it seemed as though the eleven girls were winning against the five boys, but then the boys changed strategies and started closing in around the girls, carrying huge chunks of snow in their arms.
Nevaeh lost track of what was happening: everyone seemed to be against everyone and she took a couple of steps away from the general melee, not wanting to be knocked down by someone–
"Ooof!" That's all she had time to say when one of the guys came barreling into her, tackling her to the ground.
"Ha! Je t'ai eu!" Henri said, sitting on top of his sister and pinning her arms down. Being much taller and stronger than her, it wasn't hard, and they had done that so many times as kids. Only…
"Get off me!" she cried out, pushing him, and by the distress on her face, Henri slowly got off of her. But he wasn't fast enough because Jesse was pushing him away, hard.
"Oh, my God, Nev, are you okay? Please say you're okay, Nev?" He helped her sit up, gently pulling her upright. Everyone was standing around them, not knowing what the hell was going on. But Nevaeh didn't care. She put a hand on her belly and felt something warm between her legs. She opened them and saw blood on the snow.
"Shitshitshitshit," Jesse said. "I'm taking you to the infirmary. Now."
"Wait," Nathan said, holding up a hand. "What the hell is going on? How would she bleed there, of all places, when all Henri did was tackle her to the ground? I don't see anyone else bleeding around here, do you?" He looked around the others, but no one replied.
Nevaeh took a deep breath and shared a glance with Jesse. She didn't wait for him to nod or whatever, but a sharp pain slashed through her belly. "Because I'm pregnant, you idiot," she hissed between her teeth, ignoring or not seeing the reactions on everyone's faces. "Now help me up," she said to Jesse, who quickly obeyed.
Nathen barreled against Jesse and punched him in the nose. "That's for knocking up my cousin, you… amateur." Jesse stumbled and fell in the snow, holding onto his bleeding nose. Without waiting a minute longer, Henri picked up his older sister as if she was just a feather and walked fast towards the medical wing.
"Pardon, pardon, Nev, j'te demande pardon," he kept saying over and over again. 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Nev, please forgive me.'
Nevaeh was curled up in a ball in his arms, squeezing her legs tightly as she felt more blood blooming in her pants. She closed her eyes shut and held on to her brother's sweater. She wasn't a 28-year-old pregnant woman anymore, but a small child, needing to be reassured. Henri pushed the door of the infirmary with his shoulder, the others following behind.
"Hello? Anyone here?" Henri called out, still holding on to Nevaeh.
"Yes!" a female voice said. "What happened?"
Nevaeh looked up – it was the red-head, Nurse Gummy – and was about to say something, but Henri was faster.
"We were being stupid in the snow and–"
"Just check on my baby," Nevaeh said.
Nurse Gummy instructed Henri to put Nevaeh down on the bed and she proceeded to unbutton her pants and push up Nevaeh's layers of sweaters. "Are you the father?" she asked.
"Ew, no. I'm her brother," he said, making a face, and the nurse made an awkward face. "I'll get him if you–"
"No," Nevaeh said. "Check first if it's alright."
Nurse Gummy called a gynecologist to come in as soon as possible, and then took a stethoscope to hear the baby's heart. "Wait, how far are you?" the nurse asked.
"Eight and a half weeks," she said.
"It's too early to hear its heartbeat, then," she said, but still tried to listen. She shook her head. "Yes, it's too early. But I'm going to get you ready for an ultrasound," she said. "In the meantime, drink this." She gave her a bottle of water to drink and prepared the ultrasound machine.
"Can you please go get Jesse?" Nevaeh asked her brother and he obliged right away. Everyone was waiting behind the doors anyway, and Jesse burst into the infirmary with a tissue paper stuck up his nose to stop the bleeding. When Nevaeh saw him, she laughed a little. "Are you alright?"
"Don't worry about me, I deserved that." He stood next to her and grabbed her hand. "Are you okay? Is the baby okay?"
"We don't know yet," Nevaeh said, replying evenly. But inside she was terrified: she had come to love that baby, even though it was still just an embryo, and she did not want to lose it. Maybe playing in the snow was not the wisest idea ever.
"Alright, all set," Nurse Gummy said. She pulled the bed to the ultrasound machine and spread some gel on her belly. Nevaeh hissed slightly at the cold and Jesse's grip on her hand tightened. The Nurse then placed the stick on her belly and an incomprehensible black and white image appeared on the screen. But the nurse was still frowning.
"What's wrong?" Nevaeh asked, seeing the redhead's face.
"I'm not entirely sure," she said. "We'll have to wait for the gynecologist to arrive. I really only know the basics…"
Nevaeh took a deep breath and shared a wary glance with Jesse. "How long before they arrive?" she asked.
"She said she was on her way, but with the snow and all, I really don't know." The nurse continued to look at the screen, rolling her stick all over Nevaeh's belly to get a good image. She took some screenshots but otherwise didn't say anything. After a minute or two of total silence, she finally put the stick away and gently wiped the gel off of her belly. "Let me just check your bleeding," she said.
Jesse held on tight to Nevaeh, and both waited in silent agony.
"Okay, so the bleeding stopped, it's a good sign." The nurse looked up from between Nevaeh's legs, offering her a confident smile.
Just that simple, tiny good news made Nevaeh – and Jesse – breathe a little better. Henri poked his head in the door. "Is everything alright?"
"Uhm, this is going to be weird but could you go get me a pair of pants and some underwear in my room?" Nevaeh asked, feeling the heat rise in her cheeks. She would ask Jesse, but she didn't want him to go.
"Uh, yeah sure…" Henri replied, not really sure about his task at all. When he came back though, the gynecologist was there, and she already had an ultrasound up Nevaeh's hoo-ha – she was covered in one of those blue paper blankets – looking if the baby was still okay.
"No damage done," the doctor said, smiling. "See this?" she said, pointing at a dot on the screen. "That's your baby. It's as big as an olive, right now, but you need to take it easy as much as you can, miss."
"What was the bleeding, then?" Nevaeh asked.
"It just had a shock." The doctor looked at Nevaeh, then at Jesse and Henri who were standing on either side of the bed. "No more snowball fights, or stressful situations."
Nevaeh snorted. "I'm never stressed. Besides, I need to finish what I started: Nathan still needs a lady in his life."
Henri rolled his eyes. "Don't worry about him, he has four constant ladies right now, and no one is complaining." He paused. "You're the priority right now, okay?"
Nevaeh thought it was cute how her brother thought he could tell her what to do. No one told her what she could or could not do. Sure, she would listen to the doctor and rest, but then she would see Nathan to the end of his Selection. And that was the end of it.
-o-0-o-
The person who freaked out the most after Nevaeh revealed that she was pregnant with Jesse's 'help' wasn't Nathan – yes, he had punched Jesse – but her mother.
"You WHAT?" she said, almost screaming in the foyer. Nevaeh and the others were just saying goodbye to the three girls going home and sending them off.
"Mom, can we talk about this later?"
"Later– Nevaeh, I did NOT raise–"
"Come on, Auntie Sybil," Nathan said, leading her away. "We'll talk about this later."
Her mother let Nathan drag her away, and Nevaeh felt so foolish.
"Hey, it's going to be okay," Dyani said, coming over. She held Nevaeh's arms and searched her eyes. "I was really scared for you this morning. I know what it's like. And I prayed to the Universe that you wouldn't go through the same thing I did…"
Now Nevaeh wanted to cry. She hugged Dyani. "Thank you," she whispered in her hair. Dyani hugged her back, holding on tightly to her, and they stayed like that for a long moment. Then Nevaeh wished her all the best and made her promise to publish that book. "Wait," she said. "Who had you guessed would win, for Valerian and Nathan?"
Dyani smiled. "I was right with Odessa. So I hope my guess with Morrigan is right as well."
Nevaeh tilted her head to the side and chuckled softly. "Well then, if it's not, you'll have to change the ending."
"Yeah." The long-haired girl laughed softly and went to say goodbye to Valerian. Neveah then said goodbye to Eve and Ashia, also wishing them all the best and hoping that they wouldn't take too long to recover from the disappointment. She wanted to ask them so badly how they knew to step aside and let Valerian go to Odessa, but she didn't want to hurt them more than they already were. Maybe Dyani had told them how her book ended and they all believed her? What if she was also right about Nathan's choice? What if she was wrong?
What if he just didn't choose anyone at all?
Because that was also a possibility.
The group of young people waved at the car taking away the three girls. Nevaeh looked at Valerian, but she wasn't sure if the emotion she read on his face were relief, sadness, or utter happiness. Maybe a little bit of all three. One thing was sure, he had an arm around Odessa, and they formed the cutest couple ever.
Right. Now she had to go face her mother or she would never hear the end of it. She took a deep breath and grabbed Jesse's hand. "You're coming with me," she said.
"Where?"
"To see my mother."
"What? No! I'm no ready for that–"
"You don't have a choice. It takes two to make a baby, in case you had forgotten."
"No, it's just–"
"Come on." She held on to his hand, forcing him to follow him, and they found her pacing the floor and drinking whisky in the queen's private Women's Room. Jesse stopped at the entrance, but the queen invited him inside.
"You did this to my daughter?" Sybil said, pointing a finger at Jesse and poking him in the chest.
"Mom, stop it!" Nevaeh said, standing between the two of them. "We were both drunk, and we're both at fault, here." She glared at her mother who was becoming redder and redder in the face. "And we're keeping it."
"Oh," Sybil said. "And how are you two going to do that? Unmarried and all?"
"You're the one to talk!" Nevaeh retorted. "You left dad years ago to be with someone else!"
"Maybe, but we were married when we had you and your brother." She paced the floor, going back and forth, her heels clicking on the wooden flooring where there was no rug. She whirled around to face Jesse. "You better start thinking of something better to do than host that stupid how. There is no way I'm letting my daughter be with–"
"Enough!"
Everyone closed their mouths and looked at the queen who was rubbing at her temples, sitting on an armchair.
"Sybil, Nevaeh is a grown woman, and she can do whatever she likes and marry whomever she wishes."
"Thank you," Nevaeh said.
"However," the queen continued, "I agree that this was not the wisest thing to do." She sighed. "What were you two thinking? Do you even know condoms exist?"
Nevaeh went red to the face. Hadn't the doctor said not to find herself in too many stressful situations? She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to find something to say. But Jesse beat her to it.
"May I say something?" he said, stepping up in front of Nevaeh. The queen nodded. "Right. As Nevaeh said earlier, we were both drunk after the Halloween party." He paused slightly, making sure the Princess was not going to throw a bottle of good whisky at him. She didn't, so he continued. "I've been in love with your daughter for a long time and–"
"What?" Nevaeh said, sitting down on a chair.
"Yes, we can talk about that later," he said, offering her a smile. He turned back to her mother. "I'm an honorable man, Your Highness, and I will not let Nevaeh go through this alone. I will be there every step of the way."
The queen nodded, but Sybil was still fuming, her arms crossed over her chest.
"Mom, please just let it go," Nevaeh said. "I wanted you to be the first one to know once we started telling everyone about the baby, but – well, the snowball fight happened and we had a little fright. But now all is well, and there's nothing to worry about."
"It's a good thing we've hired a wedding planner for Silas and Ximena's wedding," Helena pipped in. "Nevaeh will be able to rest and be careful. Right?" she said, looking at the Duchess.
"Yes. I'll still be around, the Selection is still going on, so I'm staying here."
Sybil just huffed. "I can't– I'm sorry– I need some air." She hurried out of the room, leaving an empty glass of whiskey on the coffee table.
Auntie Lena stood as well. "I'll give you two a moment," she said softly. She squeezed her niece's shoulder and walked out of the room.
After a moment, Nevaeh looked at Jesse who was still standing some distance away from her seat. "Did you really mean it?" she asked.
"Mean what?"
"You know… that… you loved me?"
"Oh, God. Of course, I do! I wouldn't have said it if it wasn't true, love." He crouched in front of her and took her hands in his, kissing them one at a time. Then he leaned in and kissed her belly. "I'm glad she's okay, though."
"You mean he," he teased. "But yes, me too."

The next two weeks were dedicated to The Big Wedding preparation. Everyone over Illéa was talking about it, either on TV, on the radio, on the Internet, on Blogs, or on Social Media. Everyone wanted an invitation, and those who didn't – which was 99% of the country, of course – would come to see the wedding procession and try to get a glimpse of the royal couple.
Nevaeh was glad she didn't have to do anything for this event, She only had to be a bridesmaid, since Ximena had decided not to ask Leigh. She just hoped that the outfit would hide her baby bump as much as possible – she didn't really want to be the talk of the town at the future king's wedding. Only Jesse would be a part of the wedding party, but she didn't mind: let him have his royal moment, he had worked so hard to get there.
In those two and a half weeks, also, the Palace was not only filled with excitement for the wedding, but also so much full of love: Silas and Ximena, Valerian and Odessa, and she and Jesse. To the point where it almost got nauseating. So much love in the air could not be that healthy, right? Oh, and there was also Henri and Pallas in the midst of it all. Nevaeh didn't know why Nathan hadn't eliminated her yet – probably because Henri was still there – or why Pallas hadn't asked to leave – also because probably Henri was still there.
And speaking of Nathan, he was going from one girl to the other, spending his nights in a different bed every night – except Morrigan, because she still continued to refuse him for some reason. Honestly, Nevaeh didn't understand how they could stand it, sharing one man like this. She would have outed a long time ago, had she been in their place.
One thing was sure, either they really loved him, or they stayed for the paid vacation. But six months? That's a long vacation or a long time to sacrifice. Didn't they have anything better to do?
Sure, Emelda trained and practiced her gymnastics in the gym, downstairs, practically every day; Morrigan received scripts from directors to go over and accept – which she didn't since she already had something on the stove; Jenissa spent lots of time in the music room, working on something she wouldn't talk about; and Abigail was just enjoying the ride, dancing in her room whenever she felt like it. From what Nevaeh had seen, she was the one to go the most to Nathan, suggesting sexy times…
But Nathan was also a gentleman, and he gave his time – more or less – equally to all the girls.
Nevaeh was glad to just sleep in in the morning and relax. Her mother was still angry at her and even angrier at Jesse, but she didn't mind: she knew Princess Sybil de Montignac would come around and become a very doting grandmother once the baby was born – which was still many months away since he or she was due in late July, or even in the beginning of August. So yeah, still a long way to go. But she loved her baby more and more every day, and so did Jesse.
Who, by the way, had moved into her room. Nevaeh and he still bickered and argued about stupid things, but they always ended up under the covers, either making up or coming up with stupid names for their baby. It had become one of their favorite games, in those two weeks: whenever one was angry or in a bad mood, the other would just drop a ridiculously long name.
Maximilianus.
Archibald.
Winifred.
Calpurnia.
Marguerite.
And on and on it went. Nevaeh was pretty sure they'd end up with a very long list. Not that she kept track of all of them, but when one she liked one that popped up, she wrote it down, keeping that list under lock even from Jesse.
