The corner of Mission and 21st was decidedly busy late that afternoon and Steve was grateful to find a parking spot next to a bank, putting the two detectives directly across Erin McMillan's apartment.

The large three-story brick building was lined with Halloween decorations, including a big black spider hiding behind the sign for Mission Street Apartments.

Closing the door of the mint green Galaxy behind him, Steve put his sunglasses back into the coat pocket of his light gray suit and waited for Dan to come around the grill of the unmarked police car, before jogging across the street toward the main entrance.

"When does Forney get out of work? Isn't he the morning bartender?", Haley asked worriedly, as they approached the main doors, but stopped on the sidewalk to reconvene.

"Yep, sure is. He might be home now. You wanne cover the backdoor in case he tries something funny?"

"So, you're sending me down some filthy alley again, I see?", Dan answered with a faint smile and ran a hand through his brown hair, the other one subconsciously resting over the gun hidden beneath his black trench coat, "Have it your way, kiddo. But stay out of trouble with the lady."

With a nod, the two detectives parted ways, and Steve entered the well-lit entranceway to the apartment complex that took up much of the busy city block.

Perhaps this lead would help solve their bizarre murder case, he hoped, as he headed toward the stairwell, and with it, hopefully end Mike's string of tormenting nightmares.
