She had been hesitant at first to let him order; she almost hoping he would just read the descriptions out to her so she could choose. When she remembered that his mother had chosen the place, it occurred to her that not only would he have been there before but he probably knew what was good and what was not.
The service was quick and within 20 minutes they both had plates of food before them and it turned out she was glad she had trusted him. Not only that but he had not given her any trouble upon realizing that she did not know French. "This is delicious," she said, chewing slowly to savor it.
"Yes. What is your degree in?" he questioned, doing his level best to start a conversation. He had expected her to start, as she never really seemed to stop speaking. Tonight though she seemed more focused on the people around them, especially the dancing, that she was too distracted to talk.
It took her a moment to realize he had changed the topic and it made her smile that he was making such an effort on her part. "I have a masters in Law and Business." She waited for it, for the disdain in his eyes the same way it had come to Jirōbō.
His surprise showed in the minute widening of his eyes and the way his lips twitched a little at the corners. "That is why you did not fear me," he said, thinking back to the well worded letter and her challenge. He did not doubt, now that he knew, that she would have more than adequately defended herself in court, if the situation had gotten that far.
