Trapped

Five hundred years she thought dazedly. Surely in that long amount of time he had to have had some kind of feelings for the woman he had married. But then it did not surprise her, the longer she thought about it. This was a demon that prided himself on his strength, on his ability to make less of those around him. Kagome could only imagine how much more arrogant, and cruel, he had been in a time when arrogance and cruelty was accepted and welcomed, from any race.

Turning her attention to the dancers again, Kagome lost herself in thoughts of what his life must have been like, to be trapped in a loveless marriage. And poor Kagura, whoever and wherever she was. She didn't doubt that at least on the wife's part, there had been some emotion. A woman didn't stay with a man for that long without some kind of feeling, or desire, something she wanted desperately.

And to try, for five hundred years, to have a child. That in itself must have been a heart wrenching loss and for a moment, Kagome felt the slightest bit of guilt about the child growing within her. Sighing, she turned back to her companion. "Weren't you lonely?" she asked softly. "All those years married to a woman you didn't love in a marriage you didn't care for…"
