28th of August, 1998.
It was Hermione's last day at the Ministry. She was in her small office, she was classifying by alphabetical order all the records that she had been writing all summer. She had been enjoying that first experience at the Ministry even though identifying old artefacts had not been always easy or fun.
She was pensive and biting her lips, an odd habit that she had developed whenever she was thinking or nervous.
She could not believe that in four days, she would be on the train to Hogwarts. Only four months had passed since the battle yet so much had happened.
She looked at the two rings on her finger and smiled. Yes, a lot had changed. Fred had pre proposed during their trip while they were on the Island of Skye and obviously, she had accepted his pre proposal, madness...
...
Fred had also bought an house, in France, during their short trip there, for the Quidditch World Cup. They had seen, in a newspaper, an ad for a tour, for wizards and witches only, of the forest of Broceliande. They both loved the mystery that surrounded the forest so they had decided to extend their trip to go there after the game.
Their guide had told them that there was an house for sale in the forest. Rumors said that it had been built exactly where Viviane used to live. The spells used to repel the Muggles were stronger than common spells, it was so strong that sometimes even Muggles born could not see the house. Luckily, Hermione did not seem to be affected by the enchantments.
The house was an old manor hidden in the heart of the forest of Broceliande, in the middle of the lake. Fred and Hermione had fallen in love with it as soon as they had seen it and Fred had returned to France within a week to buy it. George had not taken the news very well. The idea of having his twin living in another country was bothering him. Fred had told him to relax as he had bought this house more as a summer house, which was sort of a lie.
...
After buying the house, Fred had seen another of his dreams coming true : Zonko had accepted his and George's offer. They had signed the preliminary sale agreement before Hermione and Fred's trip to Scotland.
They had their final appointment at Gringotts on the first of September. In exactly four days, they would be the owners of a new shop and a new apartment.
...
They had celebrated it with their family and during the party Fred and George had finally told their mother about their NEWTS. She had cried, tears of joy evidently. She was very proud of them.
Mr Weasley was also very proud but unlike his wife, he knew that the twins had passed their NEWTS. Kingsley had told him months ago. He had never said anything as he had always known that Fred and George would share the news once they would be ready.
...
Ginny had used her brothers' success to try to escape from her last year of school but it had not worked. She was not very , or not at all, pleased about the idea of going back to school but she would not be alone, Hermione and Luna would be with her.
Ginny and Hermione had worked on their issues to save their friendship. Basically, Hermione had accepted to go shopping with Ginny, whenever the redhead wanted, for the next ten years. Besides, Ginny needed someone to fill her in about what was going on between Charlie and Alicia. As she was not close with Alicia and Charlie had been gone, to Romania, for ten days after Paris, she had no one but Hermione to help her to understand that awkward situation.
Hermione had not been able to tell her much. After Charlie's return, two weeks ago, he had followed his plans and moved into an apartment in Hogsmeade, accepted McGonagall's offer and asked Alicia, again but formally this time, to move in with him. After their trip to Scotland, she and Fred had heard from George, who had been told by Angelina, that Alicia had accepted Charlie's offer but George did not know the why and how as Angelina had refused to tell him more about the subject.
Hermione did not know anything else.
Well, she knew that Fred and George had offered Charlie to stay at the apartment above Zonko or better said WWW Hogsmeade but Charlie had refused. He did not want to share the apartment with Neville and Seamus. He did not want a place to stay, he wanted a home with Alicia and their baby, something that Fred had easily understood.
Since then, Charlie and Alicia had been off everyone's radar and as she and Fred had been off the radar too as they had been on holidays, she had nothing more to say.
However, this did not stop the two young witches from talking about it for hours. After, Hermione and Fred's romantic trip to Scotland, the baby was the girls favorite topic. Even Mrs Weasley was babbling about the baby, her first grandchild, except when Fleur was around.
The last few weeks had been harrowing for Fleur. Being told that she was finally pregnant to learn a few days later that the mediwitches had mixed her blood test with Alicia's and that Alicia was the one who was pregnant, it was hard to swallow.
...
Hermione had missed Ginny. Ginny was such a bright and funny person, Hermione could tell that Fred and George had really been an inspiration for the redhead. Nevertheless, Hermione would be pleased if Ginny was not trying so hard to push her and Luna to become friends. Her relationship with Luna had not really changed but Ginny was hoping that being together at school and sharing a lot of classes would help the girls to build a solid friendship.
Ginny would have preferred to see Hermione working on befriending Luna instead of Alicia but she reckoned that the two witches had a lot in common. Besides Ginny knew that the fact that Alicia was the twins best friend or the fact that Alicia would give birth to a Weasley, had certainly influenced Hermione's decision.
...
Speaking of Alicia and the baby, most of the Weasleys still could not believe that Charlie would become a dad in a few months. When it came to bets about who would be the first father, no one had ever bet on him. Just like no one would have ever bet that Audrey would finally agree to go on a date with Percy.
After months of chasing the Auror, Percy's wish had been granted, shortly after their trip to Paris. He had almost chocked when she had accepted to go out with him. After being told that if it had not been for Percy, Rookwood would still be walking in the hallways of the Ministry, Audrey had been touched and admitted that the man deserved a chance.
As Alicia did with Hermione, the night of the party, Audrey clarified things with Percy about her feelings for Charlie. She told Percy that she had never felt anything for Charlie. Yes, he was an astonishing man and yes at first she had tried to get his attention but she had quickly understood that Charlie would never look at her. If things had been so tensed between her and Alicia, and Charlie, it was only because she was tired of Alicia and Charlie constant flirting. She even confessed that she believed that Dolohov, Rookwood and Lestrange could have been arrested weeks ago if Charlie and Alicia had been more concentrated. It was their lack of attention that had led the trio, so often, to St Mungo.
Percy had been relieved to learn that he was not chosen as a last resort yet he was so afraid of blowing what he was calling his only chance that the date had not happened yet. Obviously, his siblings were constantly trying to take the mickey out of him.
...
...
It had really been a summer of pure madness and Hermione was ready to bet that a life with Fred would be just as mad as their summer. She was so happy that she had almost sent an owl to Professor McGonagall to inform her that she no longer wished to go back to school.
Strangely, it was Fred who had stopped her. He disliked the idea of not being able to see her everyday as much as she was hating it but he knew that she had to go back to school. One day, she would become Minister of Magic, it was his dream and to make that dream come true Hermione had to go back to school. He had even started to call her Madame the Minister of Magic.
...
Hermione felt tears of joy filling her eyes. It had been the most amazing summer of her life and apparently that summer was turning into forever.
A knock at the door got her out of her cloud nine.
« Come in » she said wondering who it could be, she was not expecting anyone

This is the first part of the last chapter. I will post part II and an epilogue, soon. I am not sure when but soon. I do have to think about how I will post it. As I did mention some times ago, this fanfiction is a two parts fanfiction yet I have decided to stop for now and let part II for later, again I don't know when.
This 2020 had been a bad year for all of us, I am starting 2021 with a new job and I am focusing my energy on it so I don't have much time to post for now. I am also planning to move back to France as my new job will allow me to work from home. Moving back to my country means a lot of papers to do...
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know as the epilogue might not be as conclusive as it should. I want to let the door open for when I will be ready to post part II but do not worry this first part does end on a very happy note for Fred and Hermione, summer did turn into forever for them ;)
Thanks for your support, I am glad that you have been enjoying the story. I am open to do a FAQ, in case you have some questions left after the epilogue.
Xx
