"Do you have anymore questions about your classes?"
"No, thank you for helping me with my schedule."
Olivia buttoned her coat and grabbed her purse out of the chair. It was one month later, and they were boarding a flight to Scotland tomorrow. Olivia and Fitz didn't have any complaints about anything. Their days after work were relaxed. The nanny took care of everything. Olivia and Fitz had at least four uninterrupted hours upstairs during the week when Fitz didn't have class after work. Olivia couldn't wait to get home to be with Fitz. There was a lot of noise downstairs, but they could tune out the shrieks, yelling and laughter.
A text message made Olivia pause in the hall for a second. It was a text message from Maya. She was sending her pictures of the twins every day. Olivia was happy Maya was getting excited about the babies. She was back at work and Sophia was in her class. Olivia was glad about that. Maya was good at dealing with hyperactive students. The babies were breathing on their own, but they would still be in the hospital until the beginning of next year. When she walked in the house, Amelia and Sophia were sitting at the table painting with the nanny. Karen was sleeping. Olivia didn't want to interrupt the peacefulness. She made her way to the stairs and tried not to bring any attention to herself.
"Are you starting in January?"
"Yes. How was your day?" Olivia asked, taking off her clothes and sliding in bed next to him.
"Long and boring."
Fitz quickly undressed and pulled her into his arms. Olivia was glad Fitz walls had thick insulation. They were never too loud.
"We have to be at the airport really early tomorrow." Fitz said.
He pulled her leg over his hip and kissed her softly. Olivia moaned and looked over his shoulder at the alarm clock. They had one more hour alone. Olivia tried to get home quickly after she left the campus, but Maya wanted her to come to the hospital to see the babies, and Olivia needed to get dinner for herself. She would have to leave again after they had sex. It was dark and the streets were icy. Last week, Bernadette slipped on the ice, and she had to stay overnight in the hospital. Olivia was dropping Sophia off at her home until the snow melted.
"Are you wearing your diaphragm?"
"Yes."
"Do you want to see the rental property in Ohio when we come back from Scotland?"
"No, we have to get ready for California."
"Okay, we can take a weekend trip to Ohio next year."
Fitz quickened his pace and Olivia lowered her head to kiss his neck.
"Livvie, are you trying to finish already?"
"No."
Fitz phone rang and he ignored it. The phone kept ringing. He ignored it and continued their lovemaking. The landline phone rang a few minutes later. Fitz was getting frustrated. The voicemail answered and he heard a voice he didn't recognize. A Scottish accent.
"I'm looking for Fitzgerald Grant. I'm calling from Wishaw General Hospital. You're listed as an emergency contact for several of our patients admitted today."
Fitz paused. His heart dropped. Olivia looked at his face. This was a nightmare.
