Helpless

When the blow never came, when no angry yells echoed in her ears, when no pain other than what she already felt assaulted her, only then did Kagome come back. And still, as he held her, carried her, held her again, all she could do was cry; from the fear, from the frustration, the stress and just the pure helplessness of it all. She felt useless, like a fool for letting it all get to her and yet she could no more deny those emotions any more than she could any of the others.

She curled against him, her hands fisted in the front of his shirt and said shirt was now soaked with her tears as she shook against him. The smooth feel of his hand against her back soothed her just as much as the quiet cadence of his voice. Kagome could feel herself drifting and as she turned further into his arms, she was asleep.
