Silver Beast: Downpour

As they ran through the crowd, Kagome lost track of Eri and Fred. Knowing her best chance of finding Inuyasha was at his car she headed towards the main exit. It took some effort to push through the crowd but she somehow made it through without being trampled. By the time she'd arrived at the car her hair had fallen out of its ponytail, her jeans had a tare on one knee and her tank top was covered in spilled beer and nacho cheese. One of her sandals to her dismay had broken too making her walk slightly crooked. As she tried to steady her breathing she leaned with her back against the passenger side door of his car. The cool metal felt nice on her skin allowing her to focus on steadying the rapid pace of her heart.

While she waited for Inuyasha to find her she slumped down to the grass to relax. It was during her wait that she noticed something sticking out of Inuyasha's wallet. Letting her curiosity get the better of her she pulled it out to take a better look. Her confusion only deepened when she discovered it to be a baby sonogram. She covered her mouth to smother her gasp when she noticed Kikyo's name listed in the corner. She couldn't have stopped the whimper from escaping her lips even if she tried when she noticed the little doggy ears on the top of the baby's head. Although the image had Naraku's name listed as the father she knew it was wrong. There was only one reason why this sonogram would have been in his wallet.

Inuyasha was going to be a father.

The knowledge that he was having a child with Kikyo tore her to pieces. Sure, he'd done the deed a few months before they met. That didn't make her heart hurt any less. The fact that he kept this secret behind her back hurt a lot. How long had he known about this? Were they still sleeping together even now? When was he going to tell her? Was he even going to tell her at all? Was he trying to be with them both at the same time? He'd said he'd done something stupid. Had he had a moment of weakness and slept with her again for old times sake? Was this his dirty little secret or was there something else he wasn't telling her? She wanted to run, no throw up and then run away. She wanted to be home, in her bed, under the covers where she could hide and make the world disappear.

"KAGOME!" Inuyasha yelled as he frantically ran around trying to find her. "KAGOME! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?!"

Kagome sniffled as she quickly stuffed the picture back into his wallet and wiped away her tears. "Over here!"

"Kagome!" Inuyasha exclaimed as he sank to his knees and pulled her into a painfully tight hug. "Thank goddess you made it out of there! I've been looking all over for you! What the hell happened? Are you hurt?"

"I don't know the details." Kagome choked out as she tried to fight back the sob from escaping her lips. "All I remember seeing was some guy getting thrown over the couch and broken glass going everywhere."

"Ah shit, I'm sorry I didn't protect you." Inuyasha cursed as he pulled back to see her messy clothes and scuffed up knee. "I swear every time I leave you alone the world falls apart."

"That's not funny." Kagome sniffled as he rubbed away the tears falling down her cheeks.

"I'm still sorry." Inuyasha apologized as he pulled back to look into her teary blue eyes. "You sure you're ok?"

"I'll be fine." Kagome shrugged off as she tried to ignore how cute he looked as he doted over her. Needing to distract herself she held out his wallet with the sonogram safely hidden inside. "Here's your wallet."

"Thanks." Inuyasha said as he stuffed it into his back pocket without a second thought. "Come on, let's get you home."

Their timing couldn't have been any better. As soon as they turned down the road rain began to pour down from the sky and five police cars went flying past them. No doubt in response to the fighting that broke out in the barn. The car ride for the most part was ridden in silence. Only the swishing sound of the wiper blades gliding over the windshield filled in the void. Inuyasha had tried to spark up a conversation but Kagome wasn't in the mood. She was tired and too caught up in her inner turmoil to expend the extra energy. Inuyasha had asked her over and over again if she was ok, or if something was wrong but she continued to shrug it off. She knew it annoyed him but she really didn't care. He wasn't sitting in good graces with her at the moment. He could sit there and continue to stew in his thoughts for all she cared.

She was angry, hurt and confused. She felt betrayed and needed time to think what this all meant. What this could do to their relationship in the future. She couldn't afford for her love for him to blind her of the truth. When Inuyasha pulled up to her house she didn't bother to wait for him to open the door for her or to shield her from the rain with his umbrella. She didn't want to act like everything was normal and ok; because it wasn't. She wanted to rebel, to be defiant and disobey him. Hell, she'd already foregone wearing a bra tonight. Why not cap it off by being an independent woman who opened her own damn car doors, ran in the rain and ignored her cheating boyfriend. Yeah, that was the key to making her feel better and forget about her problems. As she headed towards the door she heard him quickly follow behind. If only there was a way to avoid an awkward goodbye.

"Kagome wait!" Inuyasha pleaded just as she rested her hand on the front door knob. "Please tell me what I did to make you so mad!"

"You really want to know?" Kagome asked coolly.

"Yes!" Inuyasha exclaimed as he threw his hands up in exasperation.

"When were you going to tell me?" Kagome asked as she turned around and glared at him with fresh tears streaming down her cheeks. "When were you going to tell me that Kikyo was pregnant?"

"Wha..." Inuyasha paled as he took a step back from her in surprise. "How did you..."

"I saw the sonogram in your wallet, baka." Kagome said, causing his jaw and fists to tighten. "When were you going to tell me?"

"When it was a good time." Inuyasha said only further angering her.

"And how long would that take, huh?" Kagome yelled as she shoved him hard in the chest. "Before or after the baby was born?"

"Before, damn it! I tried telling you earlier in the car but Fred interrupted us!" Inuyasha defended.

"How long have you known she was pregnant?" Kagome asked as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"The day I went to meet up with Kikyo." Inuyasha cringed, making Kagome's anger intensify.

"That was over two weeks ago! Why didn't you say anything sooner? There were plenty of times for you to tell me!" Kagome wailed as the stress of everything came crashing down on her shoulders.

"Please, don't cry!" Inuyasha pleaded as he tried to pull her into a hug. His heart shattered when she pushed him away. "I didn't mean for all of this to happen. I wanted to tell you about it but I just didn't know how!"

"Gee, I don't know... Maybe something like, "Hey, Kagome! By the way my ex-girlfriend is knocked up with my kid!" would have done the job." Kagome spat as she continued to try and shove him away.

"Please don't push me away." Inuyasha begged as he wrapped his arms around her. "I didn't keep it a secret to hurt you. The news was hard for me too. It still hasn't sunk in that the pup might be mine."

"What do you mean, might be?" Kagome asked as she stopped wiggling in his embrace. "I saw the baby's ears."

"There's a chance it might be a blur on the sonogram." Inuyasha said as he knelt before her and wrapped his arms around her waist. He didn't care that she was wet or that her shirt smelled like beer and stinky cheese. He needed her to know the truth and that he truly was sorry for keeping this from her. He would humble himself before no one else but her. It was his fault that they'd gotten into this mess and it was his job to take the full blame for hurting her. "Kikyo slept with both Naraku and I around the same time she went into heat. We won't know who the father is until the blood work comes back."

"That's what the blood work was for?! You asshole! Why the hell did you take me to that?!" Kagome fumed as she tried to shove away his arms once again. "Let go of me!"

"No! Please let me explain!" Inuyash pleaded as he refused to let her go. "I know it was cruel to take you on my potentially first baby daddy appointment, but I needed you!"

"Needed me?" Kagome looked down at him in confusion. "Are you really scared of needles?"

"What? Fuck no!" Inuyasha exclaimed. "I just wanted you there with me. I already lost control of my beast once. I needed you to keep me from losing my shit!"

"Oh... I guess that makes sense. So when do you find out?" Kagome sniffled as she wiped away her angry tears.

"Hopefully no later than next week." Inuyasha said as he looked up into her eyes with a mixture of guilt, shame, and regret reflecting in their depths. "I'm really sorry Kags that I didn't tell you sooner about the pup. I just didn't know how to and I was afraid of what it would do to you."

"To me?" Kagome hiccuped as Inuyasha tenderly petted the side of her face to help her calm down.

"Of course I was worried what the news would do to you, baka." Inuyasha scolded halfheartedly. "My ex might be pregnant with my pup! The news was bound to hurt you in some way."

"Hm." Kagome nodded reluctantly. "Are you... are you still seeing each other?"

"Hell no!" Inuyasha answered immediately, catching her completely by surprise. "The last time we were intimate together was almost six months ago. It ironically was the time she might have conceived the squirt. Kikyo only comes around when she wants something or grows tired of sleeping with her mate."

"Is that why you agreed to meet up with her?" Kagome asked him. "For a quickie?"

"Absolutely not. You are the only woman I want to be with intimate with anymore." Inuyasha blushed, making her lower her head to hide her own. "I swear we didn't do anything when I saw her. She tried talking me into sleeping together again in the future behind Naraku's back but I told her no. We didn't work out in the past and we won't now."

"Then why did you go see her when she called?" Kagome asked.

"To make sure she was ok." Inuyasha answered honestly. "She didn't sound like herself on the phone. You heard how anxious she was to see me. Her mate isn't the nicest of guys so I wanted to make sure he hadn't hurt her."

"What are you going to do if the baby's yours?" Kagome asked.

"Obviously I'll have to do something." Inuyasha sighed as he tightened his hold around her waist and rested his head against her stomach. "Naraku will no doubt become a threat to both Kikyo and the pup. He could end up killing them both if we're not careful. Kikyo will have to be removed from Naraku's custody before he's aware of the situation. Once Kikyo is under the protection of the Silver pack she, along with my pup will disappear. They can't afford to stick around Port Hardy where Naraku can find them. Once they're settled into their safe location I plan on sending child support. I wanted to talk with you first before promising any visitations."

"Why me?" Kagome blinked in confusion as she hesitantly began to pet the top of his head.

"Baka, ga suki. Don't you remember?" Inuyasha used her own words against her, making her smile. "I really like being with you Kagome. I don't want my past mistakes to be the reason to keep us apart. I want to stick it out with you, even past your moon rainbow celebration. That is uh... if you're willing?"

"Really?" Kagome sniffled as fresh tears welled in her eyes.

"Really, really." Inuyasha smiled, making her giggle. "I'm not promising anything permanent yet but I'd like to keep dating and see where it goes."

"I'd like that too." Kagome giggled before cupping his cheeks.

She sighed against his mouth as he held her close to him. Being the same height as him was a new experience for her. It allowed her better access to his hair and mouth as their kisses deepened. She thought it felt more sincere on her end. Giving her the ability to show him just how much she cared for him. Although he wasn't out of the woods yet, in her opinion, his genuine submission to her was a step in the right direction. He had a lot of making up to do. His pleading for her forgiveness on his knees, followed by a devoted kiss seemed like a good place to start. By the time they'd pulled back for breath they were both heavy lidded and blushing beautifully under the moonlight.

"So... do you forgive me?" Inuyasha asked as he tenderly soothed her bruised lower lip with his thumb. "Will you stay with me? Even if Kikyo's carrying my kid?"

"Yes, but you've got to promise me that there are no more secrets between us." Kagome said sternly. "My trust in you has been shaken quite a bit. It might take me a while to fully trust you again."

"I know, and for that I'm truly sorry." Inuyasha apologized as he rose to his feet and planted a soft kiss on her forehead. "I promise to not keep you in the dark anymore. I don't want you questioning my every move or wondering who I'm with all the time. I don't want our relationship to be toxic."

"Good." Kagome nodded before standing up on her tippy toes to kiss his lips. "Night Inuyasha. Thanks for being honest with me."

"Feh." Inuyasha smirked before kissing her once more on the lips goodnight. "Sleep tight wench. Text me in the morning when you wake up."

"Kay." Kagome nodded before stepping inside the door and waving him goodbye.

Tonight had not gone to plan but she hoped things would turn out better tomorrow.
