It's gotten pretty cold down here where I live, and this cold weather has me in the mood for a snow themed chapter.
Seriously, why do I write about things I have no experience with? Girl's hormones, pregnancy, marriage, and now snow? I just keep shooting myself in the foot don't I...
Anyway, no girl in particular to focus on. As all students will be present, unless I forget to add some of them.
Enjoy.
"You know Dorothea, the power of the throw is not always the most defining characteristic of-" Ferdinand didn't get to finish his explanation of the proper way of throwing a snowball, for a opposing snowball had hit him square in the face, erupting on impact and throwing the noble lad to the ground.
"Ferdinand, you're out!" Seteh shouted.
Dorothea knelt down next to Ferdinand, who lay face down in the snow. "It'd help if you paid more attention, Ferdie." Dorothea grinned. "But don't worry, I'll lead us to vic-" Snow erupted from the back of Dorothea's head, knocking her down next to Ferdinand.
"Dorothea! You are out as well!" Seteh shouted again.
Snowball fights weren't scheduled for today, in fact neither was the sudden and heavy snowfall that seemingly occurred overnight. Not a lot of students had seen or been around snow, so to them it almost seemed like magic.
A lot of them, mainly the usual trouble makers, wanted to try out snowball fighting. Something they had only read or heard about, and seeing as it how was a free day no one really saw any reason to object. In fact, Seteh decided to make a game out of it. He called it the Monastery Snow Tournament; all three classes would split and the students would fight among each other, the side of the class that won would move on to the final round where they would fight the winning group of the other three classes.
In the Black Eagles, Dorothea, Ferdinand, Petra and Hubert were on Team A; and Edelgard, Caspar, Bernadetta and Linhardt were on Team B.
Byleth, the classes teacher, would have been the one overseeing their snow battle, but he had disappeared somewhere; insisting Seteh take over for him.
Caspar cheered from behind a snowy wall as he watched Dorothea get pelted with a snowball. "Great shot, Bernadetta!"
"S-Sorry Dorothea!" Bernadetta called out, taking cover behind the same wall Caspar was. The brunette was totally going to kill her later, she might as well just dig a hole in the snow and freeze to death.
All that was left on Team A were Hubert and Petra, and those two were deadly. Petra flinging snowballs at them non-stop as Hubert kept an eye out for any openings, mainly looking at Caspar.
Ironically, Edelgard was the first one on their team to get hit, Linhardt was only still in because he just didn't move out from behind his cover. Lazily making snowballs and stacking them next to Caspar and Bernadetta.
"Bernadetta! Line up a shot on Petra! I'm gonna draw her fire!" Caspar said, grabbing a few snowballs and preparing to leap over their makeshift cover.
"What!? Are you insane!?" Cried the recluse, but Caspar didn't hear her; vaulting over the wall and almost immediately getting knocked down with a snowball to the face by Hubert.
"Caspar, out!"
Hubert grinned. "You really should avoid charging head long into danger lik-oof!" Hubert's taunting was cut short as he got a mouthful of snow, courtesy of a carefully aimed shot from Bernadetta.
"Hubert, out!"
Now it was just Petra vs Bernadetta and Linhardt. Bernadetta turned to Linhardt as the Brigid princess began to approach their position.
"Linhardt! Do something! She's going to kill us!"
"Oh I doubt that very much, you see there isn't a lot one can do with snow when it comes to killing. Now if she get her hands on you, then yes she'd probably kill you. But I see no reason why she would." Linhardt lazily explained, placing another snowball on top of the growing pile.
"Linhardt that isn't helping!" Bernadetta's eyes widened as she saw Petra round the corner of their cover, her eyes trained on Bernadetta.
"I having got you now!" Petra stopped. "No wait...That is not right..."
"It's 'I have got you now', Petra." Linhardt stated. Petra nodded. "I am having thanks, Linhardt." She responded, the green-haired man giving her a thumbs up; which was responded with a snowball to the face.
"Linhardt, out!"
Petra turned her attention to Bernadetta.
"Now, Bern-" Petra didn't even get a chance to react before she was knocked onto her rear with a volley of snowballs aimed at her, Bernadetta cowering back, having used up the entirety of her ammunition.
"Petra, out! Team A wins!"
Bernadetta looked around, the rest of her team coming up to congratulate her.
"I-I won?!"
"You're irrelevant!"
"Wait! Lysithea!" Lorenz's attempt to beg for mercy was met with a snowball to the face, the force shoving the Gloucester heir to the ground.
"Sorry Lorenz, that's an out!" Manuela called out.
The Golden Deer glass was probably the most excited about this snowball fight, especially Claude.
Team A had Claude, Lysithea, Raphael, and Ignatz; with Team B having Marianne, Hilda, Lorenz and Leonie.
Claude chuckled, patting Lysithea on the head. "Nice shot, kiddo." The white-haired mage shooed his hand away. "You are ruining my concentration, Claude!"
The archer shurgged, taking aim at Hilda and hurling a snowball at her, who quickly ducked behind her snowy cover.
"Quick Marianne! We gotta come up with a plan!" Hilda said, her blue-haired friend looking around anxiously.
"U-Um...H-How about-" Marianne's plan never came to fruition as she was hit in the back with a snowball.
"Marianne!" Hilda cried out.
"Marianne, you are out!" Manuela said. Marianne stopd up. "S-Sorry, Hilda." She joined Lorenz and Raphael by the sidelines.
"An excellent shot, Claude!" Ignatz said.
"Was trying to aim at Hilda..." Claude muttered, feeling a little bad for hitting Marianne. But he saw the faintest smile on her face, even after she got hit; so all was well.
Ignatz supplied Lysithea and Claude with snowballs, meanwhile Hilda and Leonie scrambled to regroup and form a plan against the lethal onslaught.
"Okay, Leonie. Since I'm not very good at throwing snowballs, I'll make them and let you do all the throwing." Hilda said, smiling. Leonie was taken aback by this. "What? No! We'll both make and throw our own snowballs, come on!"
Leonie stood up and hurled a snowball over the other side of the field, hitting Ignatz square in the face.
"Ignatz, out!"
Leonie took this opportunity to take advantage of Claude and Lyisthea's temporary ammo shortage to run around their flank, two snowballs in her hand. Before she could get a chance to execute her plan however, it was quickly foiled when a snowball hit her in the back of the head; Leonie whipping around in surprise, seeing Hilda grinning nervously.
"Sorry!" Hilda's apologetic face was then covered in snow as she was hit in the face, knocking her behind her cover and onto the ground.
"Hilda, out!"
And before Leonie could recover from what happened, Claude had already walked up to her and set a snowball on top of head.
"Leonie, out!"
The girl groaned. Team A had won, and would now move onto the next round.
A snowball hurled past Felix as he swiftly dodged it, retaliating with his own snowball, Ingrid ducking behind Dedue as it hit him square in the chest.
"Dedue, out!" Hanneman shouted from the sides.
Ingrid smiled nervously. "Sorry Dedue, I needed cover and you were just kinda...There..."
The Duscurian shook his head. "It is no trouble, I have done my duty." He said before walking over to the sidelines.
The Blue Lion's class were equally as eager to participate in this sudden competition, Felix actually getting excited for it, although if you asked him he would simply call it 'training'.
For Team A, it was Dimitri, Dedue, Ingrid and Sylvain; with Team B having Felix, Annette, Mercedes, and Ashe.
So far, Team B had the upper hand; with Annette and Mercedes supporting each other and Felix and Ashe having a deadly accuracy.
"Any ideas, Ingrid?" Dimitri asked, packing together some snow together into a ball with his hands. Ingrid glanced over at Sylvain, who was struggling to keep some snow compacted into a ball long enough for him to throw it; the blonde turned back to look at Dimitri.
"We could use him as a decoy."
Dimitri glanced at Sylvain before looking back to Ingrid, the two nodded; kicking down the snowy barrier they had created and ducking out of the way, the now destroyed cover exposed Sylvain, who looked up.
"Huh? What are you guys do-" A snowball to the face ended his confusion.
"Sylvain, out!"
Mercedes clapped her hands together. "A great shot, Annette!" The orange-haired girl smiled at her friend. "Thanks Mercie, hand me another one!"
Mercedes grabbed a neatly packed snowball from the pile she made and turned back to her friend, only to find her face down in the snow.
"Annette, out!"
"Annette! What happened!?" Mercedes cried out, and her answer was quickly given to her in the form of a snowball to the back of the head.
"Mercedes, out!"
Felix clicked his tongue, Ingrid and Dimitri had him and Ashe surrounded. Eventually their position would be overan, he grabbed a few snowballs and hurled it over towards a tree Ingrid was hiding behind, using the short window to bolt to another tree nearby. He didn't really bother with assisting Ashe, he was just deadweight anyway.
Dimitri was too focused on hitting Ashe to focus on Felix, but Ingrid had zeroed in on him. Assaulting his cover with an endless barrage of snowballs, where was she getting those from?
Suddenly, Felix had an idea, grinning slightly at it.
"Ah, Professor, have you come to watch us fight?"
He heard Ingrid let out a light shriek. "T-The Professor is here?!"
Felix shot out from behind the tree and readied himself to throw a snowball, only to be stopped short as one hit him in the face instead; seeing Ingrid smiling to herself as he wiped the snow from his face
"Felix, out!"
"That trick won't work on me twice, Felix." Ingrid's confident victory was short-lasted, as Ashe took this opportunity to hit her in the side of the head.
"Ingrid, out!"
"Great shot, Ashe!" Dimitri said. Ashe smiling at the praise, before hitting Dimitri in the face with a snowball.
"Dimitri out! Team B wins!"
All the classes had now concluded their fights, and the final round was now ready.
But where was the Professor?
"You want us to what?"
"I want you all to participate in the Monastery Snow Tournament."
The underground dwellers looked among themselves, save for one. Who, as always, was eager to do anything her Professor asked of her.
"That sounds like fun!" Kronya, the Abyss's newest resident, said with a bright smile.
"You do understand that only the three classes are allowed to participate right?" Yuri said. Byleth shook his head.
"Seteh said all classes, which counts you guys."
"And if we don't wanna do it?" Hapi asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Then I won't force you, but I would at least like you all to try."
The Ashen Wolves once again looked among themselves again, before eventually coming to a silent agreement.
"Very well, we'll-"
"Hell yeah we'll participate! We're gonna kick those other student's asses!" Balthus said, raising his fist in the air in excitement.
"I fear that because of me, our own asses would be the ones getting kicked." Constance, in her gloomy mood, said. "If you so desire, I will avoid participating in this engagement; I do not wish to bring you all down with my incompetence."
"Speaking of that" Hapi spoke up "How does this work? We all gonna fight as one or..."
"You guys will split up into teams of two and fight among each other, the winning team moves onto the next round to the fight the other winning teams." Byleth explained.
"Sounds easy enough, save for one tiny problem" Yuri commented. "There's five of us, so the teams will be uneven."
Byleth nodded. "That's fine" He smiled "I'll participate."
The teams were decided shortly after, Byleth, Balthus, and Yuri against Constance, Hapi and Kronya. The boy vs girls scenario was Kronya's suggestion, and it seemed like a pretty good idea. Byleth wondered if the other classes had chosen to do the same.
"I am the almighty king of-oomph!" Balthus was thrown to the ground via a snowball to the face. Hapi high-fiving the one responsible.
"Nice shot Kronie." The red-head said, Kronya smiling as she packed together her next snowball, eyeing the Professor; who looked down at Balthus.
"Balthus, you're out."
Yuri looked over to Byleth as another snowball hurled past them, the two ducked behind their makeshift wall of snow. "So, any tips on how to handle Kronya?" Yuri said, Byleth looked over to Ashen Wolf leader as he rolled another snowball in his hand, he shrugged.
"Survive, I suppose."
Meanwhile, Hapi was making snowballs and handing them Kronya, who threw them with lethal force. The red-heard turned to her gloomy friend, sitting with her back against the snowy wall, her knees to her chest.
"You gonna participate, Coco?"
The blonde shook her head. "I fear my incompetence would be nothing but a burden on you two." She muttered "I am better off being used as a body shield, should you find me worthy enough to be one..."
Hapi shrugged, sometimes it was the the only alternative to sighing. Constance's stubborn nature seemed to be prevalent in both her moods. The only person who could break through all that was the Professor, Constance and him just seemed to click so often.
It made her a little jealous if she had to admit.
She took a chance to try her hand at lobbing a snowball over to the otherside where the two boys were at, her attempt was then met with a snowball to the face.
"Hapi, you're out." Byleth said, Yuri ducking behind the cover after throwing the snowball, another snowball thrown by Kronya whizzing past him.
"I'll draw Kronya's fire, if you wanna flank her." Byleth said, Yuri nodded. The Professor rolling out of the cover and launching a snowball towards Kronya, who squeaked and ducked, not expecting the Professor to suddenly charge her. Kronya retaliated with her own assault, the Professor skillfully side-stepping all her throws. Kronya turned to run but tripped over a rock obscured by the snow, a familiar situation if she had to admit.
She was hit in the back of the head with a snowball, falling face first into the snow. Byleth standing over her.
"Kronya, you're out."
Kronya didn't say anything, before suddenly flipping around and kicking the Professor's legs out from underneath him, causing him to fall and land on top of Kronya; who smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck.
Byleth was then hit softly in the back with a snowball. Turing around to see Constance timidly standing next to them.
"F-Forgive me, it was not my place to strike you in such a way Professor...If you wish you may punish me however you see fit."
"Oooh~ That sounds like fun." Kronya teased. Byleth sighed.
"I guess I'm out."
Constance was then hit in the head with a snowball.
"And so are you it seems..."
Constance picked her self up from the ground. "A fitting fate, for one as lowly as myself..." She muttered. Yuri walked up to them.
"So does this mean we won?" He asked Byleth, who nodded.
"Team A wins. Lets go meet up with the others."
The final round ended faster then anyone would've liked to admit, Team A from the Golden Deer class single handedly having defeated everyone, although Claude and Lysithea did most of the work as Raphael and Ignatz were the first to get hit. But the duo were still lethal to take everyone else on.
It had gotten quite late, and everyone was extremely exhausted. The students and faculty retreating to their respective rooms, with Byleth being one of the last to leave after seeing everyone off.
As he approached his dorm he was suddenly struck in the back of the head with a snowball, whipping around to be met with a smiling Flayn, giggling to herself.
"You're out, Professor."
Byleth smiled slightly, approaching Flayn. "I was wondering where you were."
Flayn frowned slightly. "My brother did not wish for me to get cold, so he insisted that I remain inside" She puffed out her cheeks in a pout. "But had I known you all would be having a snowball fight I would have insisted on joining!"
Byleth nodded. "I'm sorry you missed out on it..." He looked around, the area in front of the dorms was empty; the majority of the students having retreated back inside. "If you'd like...We can have a snowball fight of our own."
Flayn's face lit up at his suggestion. "Really! You'll do that!?"
Byleth nodded, smiling. "For you? Of course."
Flayn's grin didn't falter, throwing another snowball that Byleth failed to notice at him; the Professor swiftly dodging it and falling back, gathering some snow into a ball and throwing it at her, the girl giggling as it hit her.
Their snowball fight would continue on for a few more minutes, until Seteh found them and lectured them on the dangers of catching a cold.
Hopefully you enjoyed that, sorry I didn't really show the final snowball fight as writing action scenes is a whole different thing when it comes to just casual writing.
I also noticed this story was added to a Community, so if you're from that Community, welcome! I guess?
Anyway
Until next time.
