The only people who knew about the baby were Dan and Hank. Trevor had met with them separately. Trevor told Hank that he wanted to make things official with Olive and the kids but he would always be a part of the kids' lives and that also included the baby's. They also wanted him and Olivia to be grandparents to their child. Hank told him he was fine with that and he was happy for them. When he told Dan about the baby, he asked his permission to ask Olive to marry him and made it clear that he was not just doing this because of the baby. Dan said he could see how happy Olive has been since he had been in her life, so he had no problem with him proposing. Right after he had talked to Dan, Trevor told Olive and then she officially started wearing her engagement ring on her finger instead of on a chain around her neck.
They had decided to invite everyone over for dinner to tell them. They picked a date that worked for everyone and then they decided what they were going to make. Once they decided, they went shopping. The night of the dinner, Hank, Olivia, Erin and Jay decided they wouldn't take the kids, so Ed, Diana and Kara came to stay with them. Everyone had arrived at the condo at about the same time. They were buzzed in and got into the elevator.
"What do you suppose they want to tell us?"
"I know."
"I know you do."
"I do too."
"Hank wouldn't crack, huh?"
"Nope. Erin and I have both tried to get it out of him."
"Dan wouldn't tell me either."
"Hey, Doc."
"Hey."
They arrived at their floor and got off the elevator. Daniel ran down the hall to meet them.
"Hi!"
"Hey, Daniel."
They walked down the hall and the twins came out.
"Hey, you two."
They walked in and took their coats off.
"Holy crap!"
"I know, right?"
"I should have married a lawyer or a doctor."
"Well, you didn't. You married me."
Erin rolled her eyes.
"Hey, everyone."
"Hey, Olive. The place looks great."
"Thanks. Most of it is Trevor's though but I put some of my stuff up. Mostly the pictures of the kids."
Olive showed everyone around.
"I thought our house was a good size."
"I'm tired of renting. I wouldn't mind a place like this but could I afford it? Probably not."
"You and Denise live together, right?"
"Yes. We have a 2-bedroom apartment. It's a good size but I'd rather own and not rent."
"I'm still renting the same apartment I was when I first moved here. I would love a place this size."
"You get paid a lot more than I do."
"Maybe it would be something for us to consider."
"What? Moving in together? We haven't been together all that long."
"I know but you know how I feel about you. Working different shifts has been harder than I thought."
"You know how I feel about you too but this is a big step. What about my mom?"
"She can come with us."
"I'll think about it."
"Ok."
"Actually, I've had offers from all 4 of you. I haven't made a decision yet though."
"Really?"
"Yep."
Trevor came out of the kitchen and kissed his mother.
"I didn't know you asked Mom to move in with you."
"We did."
"So has everyone else. Josh just suggested we move in together."
"I don't want to be in the way though."
"You wouldn't be in the way. I'm surprised your parents aren't expecting you to go back to Boston."
"They said they were fine with me moving to New York as long as I came home every so often. I would have had a guaranteed job at Massachusetts General though. I wanted something different. Chances are, we probably would have met because my parents live near your sister but it's not the same as being able to see each other all the time. I love working with you but I get why we're trying not to."
"I know how cranky I get when I am working too many hours and I really don't want to take it out on you. You saw how I was getting with that guy not too long ago."
"I would have done what I did even if we weren't seeing each other. That type of behavior is uncalled for. Believe me, I get how frustrating it gets for you to have to work a lot of hours. It seems like I always get stuck having to cover for the other doctors with families. I loved being able to get away with you for a few days and not have to worry about covering someone else's shift."
Trevor went to get dinner and then he put everything on the table. Everyone then sat down and started eating.
"What's going on, you two?"
"Well, we wanted to tell you that Olive and I are having a baby and we are also engaged."
"No way! Olive, that is awesome!"
"Thanks, Erin."
"Congratulations!"
"Thanks."
"So, Henry, is this by any chance what you knew and wouldn't tell me?"
"Yes. I gave Trevor my word that I wouldn't say anything."
"You too, Dan?"
"Yep. He asked for my permission to propose to her."
""Sweetie, that's great."
"Thanks, Mom. He wanted to talk to Hank to see if it was ok for him to make it official with the kids and he also told him that we also wanted the two of you to be grandparents to this baby especially since his mom will be a grandma to them. We told Jamie just so she knew that there would be another one. Daniel knows about his new brother or sister and that Trevor wants to be their daddy. We've known since my birthday and I was 10 weeks then. I wanted to wait until I was out of the first trimester before we told the families. He actually proposed then but we didn't make it official until he talked to both Hank and my dad. I had been wearing the ring on a chain around my neck."
Olive showed everyone her engagement ring.
"That is gorgeous!"
"Thank you."
"We suspected you might have been pregnant."
"I don't doubt it. Trevor has been amazing so far. We go in a few weeks and we'll find out what it is. I'm hoping for a girl, so I can be done. Nikki already has Trevor wrapped around her little finger, so I would love to see that with his own daughter."
"When are you planning to get married?"
"We were thinking maybe the middle of June. We know we want to have the wedding at the house in the Hamptons and we're going to Paris for our honeymoon."
"You'll love Paris."
"Do Rick and Colleen know yet?"
"No. We're going to Chicago next weekend and a couple weeks later, we'll head up to Boston. We want to tell everyone in person. I'm having lunch with Mark tomorrow, so I will tell him then."
"Josh and I met Mark and Vicky when we were there. They seem nice."
"That's what I heard."
"How big of a wedding do you want?"
"Honestly, I just want something small. I want one attendant and he wants to ask Mark to be his Best Man. We both want Daniel to be the Ring Bearer and I want Rachel to be the Flower Girl. The twins aren't even going to be in it. Aunt Adrienne, I would love for you to be my Maid of Honor."
"Me? Are you sure?"
"Yeah."
"I figured you would have asked Erin."
"I'm ok with you asking your aunt."
"I do want Rick to walk Mom down the aisle. Just having my family there is enough for me."
"Did you have a big wedding the first time?"
"No. The Chaplain on the Base did a quick ceremony with some of his buddies and their significant others as witnesses. We had no family there."
"Did that upset you?"
"Kind of. I had always hoped I'd have the wedding of my dreams with my family and friends present. This is closer to that."
"That was typical Justin though. I just wanted the two of you married before Daniel was born."
"Thank you for being so supportive."
"You're welcome and thank you for including us in this."
"I do want to invite all of Olivia's friends and Hank's former squad too because they have all become like family to me as well. Trevor knows all the same people Olivia does too."
"This is very true. I'm sure they'd all come anyway."
"I appreciate Trevor asking me for permission to marry you. I loved Justin but you two just got married and called us later."
"Hank and Olivia got married and never included me."
"It was a spur of the moment decision. She had told me she was pregnant and we decided we would get married right then and there."
"What pisses me off the most is that Al knew before me."
"He had come out here with me. Let it go!"
"It just hurt me that I wasn't included and her squad was."
"I get it. We were wrong for not including you."
Jay looked at Erin and rolled his eyes. Then Erin smacked him.
"Don't hit me."
"Then don't roll your eyes at me."
"We should have left the children at home."
"I think you're right."
Erin stuck her tongue out at Hank and he just shook his head.
"Love you, Daddy."
"Uh huh."
After dinner was over, Olive and Trevor cleared off the table and brought dessert out and they talked for a while longer. Hank, Olivia, Jay and Erin left first. They kissed the kids goodnight, thanked Olive and Trevor for dinner, hugged them and headed home. Everyone else left shortly after they said goodnight to everyone. Trevor kissed the kids goodnight and went to clean the kitchen, while Olive went to put them to bed. Then she went into the kitchen.
"That went pretty well."
"I think it did too."
"Erin apparently likes to hold a grudge about not being included when Hank and Olivia got married."
"Yep. Somehow I have a feeling she's really not ok with me asking my aunt to be my Maid of Honor but I'm not changing my mind. I've been close to her my entire life. More so than my sister. I think I'm going to head to bed."
"Ok. I'll be in as soon as this is done."
Olive kissed Trevor and went to get ready for bed. He finished loading the dishwasher and wiping everything down. Then he went to get ready for bed. They watched TV for a while. Hank arrived back at the house. Ed and Diana were in the family room watching a movie.
"How were they?"
"No problems at all. Camille went right down and the other two wanted to sleep in Noah's bed. Kara was asleep in Rachel's bed the last I checked."
"Did they eat what you gave them for dinner?"
"They did. How was dinner?"
"It went well. Olive is pregnant and they're engaged. They've known since her birthday and Trevor proposed then but he talked to Hank and Dan before they made it official. They're talking about getting married in mid-June at the house in the Hamptons. I hope they aren't rushing into this."
"It is quite obvious that they love each other though."
"I know they do, Hank but do you honestly think she's ready to get married again? Are they getting married for the wrong reason?"
"Trevor assured me that he wants to marry her because he loves her and not just because she's pregnant. It's not up to me anyway. She's capable of making her own decisions and if I stick my nose into it, I don't see my grandchildren. Everyone is different. I said I was never going to get married again after I lost Camille but yet I did. It all has to do with the person in your life and how happy they make you. You were that person for me even if I was pissed at you for all those months. Trevor is obviously that person for her. I want Olive to be happy and the kids deserve to have a father. Anyone who knew Justin knew he could be a screw up at times and sometimes he got mixed up with the wrong people. I'm not saying what happened to him was his fault because he really grew up after he joined the Army and became a father and all he was trying to do was to help a friend, which ended up costing him his life."
Both Erin and Diana were nodding with agreement.
"Even I have gotten mixed up with the wrong people. Bunny. Charlie."
"You didn't have a choice with Bunny though, since she was your mother. If I had known sooner, I would have raised you myself."
"I know you would have. I wouldn't have blamed you if you had killed Kevin Bingham for what he did to Justin."
"I was this close. I wanted to but you really got to me when you said I needed to be there for Daniel. He had just lost his daddy and he didn't need to lose me too because I would have gone to prison for a long time."
"If they had ever found the body."
"That's my girl!"
Hank kissed Erin on her head.
"Honestly, I wouldn't have blamed you either. If someone ever killed Kara that way, I don't know what I would do. A part of me wants another child. We did apply to become foster parents not too long ago and they came to check out our home a couple weeks ago."
"We recently dealt with a boy that had been abused by his foster parents. He was finally able to trust us but he's really scared that someone is going to hurt him again. He's back in the group home. I'm almost considering having him come stay with us."
"How old is he?"
"He's 6. His name is Brandon. Ms. Jackson, who was the case worker for both Noah and Rachel, is the case worker for Brandon too."
Diana's phone rang, so she answered it. Once she was done talking, she hung up.
"Well, apparently we've been approved as foster parents. Brandon is coming to live with us. She's bringing him over tomorrow afternoon."
"That's good."
"How do we prepare for him?"
"You may want to start with getting things that he likes. He told me that his two favorite things are Star Wars and Legos."
"Actually, I have a whole box of Star Wars stuff that was Justin's. It's in the garage. I thought about getting rid of it but I realized that maybe Noah or even Daniel would get into it one day too. I also have a box full of Matchbox cars. You're welcome to any of them."
"Let's go have a look."
Hank and Ed went out to the garage and looked through the boxes. Then Kara came downstairs.
"Hi."
"Hey, Sweetie. Guess what?"
"What?"
"Your dad and I were approved as foster parents. There's a little boy named Brandon coming to stay with us tomorrow afternoon."
"Cool. Are we going to keep him?"
"We'll see what happens. What happened to his real parents?"
"They are deceased and so far, there has been no other family. He's been in the system most of his life. Whatever kids that were with the family that had him were removed. He wasn't with them for all that long but he had a hard time adjusting, so they thought they would do what they did instead of contacting his case worker. It actually turned out that they were abusing the other kids in the house as well but they were all too afraid to speak up. He called 9-1-1 himself to report the abuse and we were sent in."
"That is so sad. How old is he?"
"He's 6. Your dad and Uncle Hank are going through some of Justin's old toys, like his Star Wars stuff and Matchbox cars. Aunt Olivia said that he loves Star Wars and Legos."
Ed and Hank came back in.
"Find anything?"
"Yep. We're going to go out tomorrow and get stuff for his room, so it's all ready."
"Maybe I'll go in for a few hours, so I can be home when she brings him."
"That works."
"I can call Al and see if he can help."
"Ok."
"I would suggest not overwhelming him with Ed's family right away. He is in school, so you need to take him to get in the neighborhood school. He's a very smart boy but he's been struggling a lot lately. He's been wetting the bed ever since this happened and he just needs love and stability right now."
"Maybe the school thing we can do on Friday while Kara is in school."
"I'll take off. We should go."
"Ok."
"I'll call you after I drop Kara off at school."
"Ok."
"Thanks for watching the kids tonight."
"No problem. We hope things do work out for Trevor and Olive."
"I do too. As many years as I have known him, I have never seen him this crazy about someone before. I just don't want to see any of them get hurt and that includes the kids if the marriage doesn't work out."
"This relationship stuff was new to me when Ed and I got together and I never expected to be married as soon as we were. It does seem like Trevor has let Olive control how their relationship has progressed although she did panic when he told her he loved her."
"Trevor and Olive are getting married?"
"Yep and they're having a baby. They've known since her birthday."
"That is so awesome!"
"You need to get to bed, young lady."
"Ok, Mother."
Ed, Diana and Kara said goodnight to everyone and left to go home. Erin and Jay headed upstairs and checked on Camille. Olivia went up to check on Noah and Rachel and got ready for bed, while Hank let Stormy and Misty out. As soon as the Tuckers got home, Kara went to get ready for bed and Diana went upstairs to get ready for bed as well, while Ed let Lola out. Once Stormy and Misty came back in, Hank went to get ready for bed and joined Olivia in bed and then once Lola came back in, Ed went up to get ready for bed and joined Diana.
