Alone

Kagome woke slowly, her mind a foggy blur of mists that hid dreams and had let her sleep peacefully, despite the nightmare she had found herself in while fighting the demon she had thought was her ex-husband. Staring up at the ceiling she still had trouble calling hers, she shook her head to clear it of the sleepiness and tried to figure out how much time had passed by the way the sun settled across the slanted roofs.

"You are awake."

Smiling, she turned to look at him and winced only slightly as it jarred her shoulder. "What time is it?"

He sighed and leaned back in his chair once more. "Early morning. You slept through the night." Narrowing his eyes, he leaned forward again but did not touch her. "You will not fight alone any longer, Miko."

She shook her head. "No, I won't."

Gold eyes only narrowed further at her easy acceptance but Sesshoumaru decided not to push his luck any further. For whatever reason, she was choosing to go along with him; later, he would determine her reasoning.
