Perplexed

There was laughter in his apartment, when there had not been laughter in more than a year. Children, where there had not been children. The scents of various types of food wafted through the large condo, mixing with conversation and childish squeals.

He wasn't entirely sure how his home had become the accepted place for the family gathering, or how he felt about all the noise. With Rin and his ex-wife, family meals had been quiet affairs, as he typically preferred them. Now, setting the table and dodging running children, it was quite the opposite. In the kitchen, he could hear the miko and her mother, his own mother and Kikyo.

They worked together as if they had been working together for years, to create the perfect meal. It both pleased and perplexed him that he was somehow so at ease with all of them, with his home taken over by family and not a moment of quiet to himself. Just as his reaction to the girl continued to perplex him. Over the past few weeks Sesshoumaru had done his best to treat the girl simply as a friend. It was a hard task to remember to do when she was carrying his pup and thereby his scent.
