October 16

We arrived home from the demon slayer village this afternoon. It was such a fun trip with lots of laughs and new friends made. Kohaku promised to come visit soon and we told him we'll be back there as soon as possible.

The children were a little restless on the way back. First it was that they didn't want to leave and then the problem became they were sleepy. We tried to distract them with some games like I Spy and Inuyasha even let them sit on his shoulders and play with his ears for a little while.

Once we got to Miroku and Sango's house, they immediately went to put them down for a nap and then Inuyasha and I headed home.

Apparently, we had missed a lot while we were gone.

For one thing, we were shocked to find some of the village men working on a house that was almost burned to a crisp.

"What happened to Hoshi and Jiya's house?" I asked when we went over to find out what was going on.

"A fire started a few nights ago," Takero explained. "It was quite terrible. Luckily no one was injured."

"That's terrible!" I said.

"Do you guys need any help?" Inuyasha said. "I've got some extra tools at home and I can come back here."

"Yes, if you don't mind! We'd be incredibly grateful," Takero said.

"Where are Hoshi and Jiya staying now?" I asked. "I can bring them some stuff to help them out."

"They're staying in Odero's old house from before he moved, just three houses to the right of mine. I'm sure they'd be very grateful as well, Kagome."

"We're happy to help."

We started off for home again and found more people removed a large demon carcass from the middle of the road. We found out from them that the demon had entered the village this morning and the village guard had managed to take it down before it caused any real damage.

"Geez, we're gone for three days and shit falls apart," Inuyasha said as we continued on home.

"I guess the important thing is that no one was seriously injured."

"I'm so tired though. I was hoping to spend the rest of the day laying down."

"I was too," I said with a sigh. "I guess that will have to wait."

We arrived home and put down our bags to unpack later. Inuyasha went out to the shed to get the tools and after a few minutes I went out as well only to find him in the garden.

"Damn it," he said.

"What happened?" I asked as I came over to where he was bending down by the fence. I noticed there was a hole in the bottom of it.

"Looks like some animals got in."

I noticed the state of our vegetables. About a quarter of the garden had been munched on. "Oh no!" I picked up a carrot that had bite marks in it. "These were supposed to last a while. Is it too late to plant more?"

"We can try, but with the weather changing I doubt we'll be able to get much out of it."

I sighed. "That's what happens when you have to grow your own food I guess."

Inuyasha quickly patched up the hole in the fence and planned to rebuild it later. While he did that I pulled out all of the bad food and laid down some more seeds.

"I'm going to go help with the house," Inuyasha said afterward. "I don't know when I'll be back."

I kissed him. "It's okay, it's good that you're helping them. I'll try to be awake when you get back."

"If you're not, I'll understand completely." He kissed me again. "I love you."

"I love you too, Yasha."

He went off and I went back inside and cleaned the dirt off my hands. From there I unpacked from our trip and put together a little care package for Hoshi and Jiya. I felt terrible about their house and I could only imagine how devastating it must be to have that happen. I figured this was the least I could do for them.

I went to the house Takero said they were staying in and Hoshi answered.

"Hi Kagome," he said surprised to see me. His wife appeared next to him as well. "What are you doing here?"

"I heard what happened to your house," I said. "I'm so sorry that happened."

"Thank you," Jiya said. It was clear that she had been crying. "It's just one of those things that you think will never happen to you."

"I brought this for you. It's not much, but I hope it helps in some way."

They looked into the basket and gasped at the supplies and food I had brought for them.

"Thank you so much!" Hoshi said.

"You're so kind, Kagome!" Jiya said as she gave me a hug. "I can't tell you how much we appreciate this."

"I'm happy to help you. Let me know if there's anything else you need."

"We will. Thank you again!"

When I got home after that I collapsed on the bed and took a nap. These past few days have been so exciting but tiring. It was nice to finally be able to rest. Since then I've had dinner and took a bath. Inuyasha still isn't home yet. I hope he gets here soon. I want to fall asleep in his arms tonight.
