Maybe it was silly and hopefully naïve, but Kagome couldn't help but to give him a few minutes after she was done packing to try and come and change her mind. So she sat on her bed, listening intently for any sound of movement. She wanted badly for him to come and speak with her.
A few minutes turned into a half hour, a half hour into an hour, before she finally stood. She wasn't even fully aware of where her thoughts had gone as she sat there, waiting, but the time went more quickly than she would have thought. Kagome half wished it had dragged on, if only to give him more time to stop her. Sighing, she pulled the handle for the suitcase and grabbed the small satchel off the bed, before walking out of the room.
He was there, in the living room, just sitting on the couch. The television wasn't on, there were no books near him, and the lights were too dim for much of anything, anyway. Finally, she said, "I'm going now."
Sesshoumaru had listened to her pack as he moved through the kitchen, mechanically cleaning up the holiday meal. It had become habit to safe the leftovers after a meal because she preferred eating them to ordering out. Only when everything was cleaned and put away did he realize doing that would no longer be necessary if she was leaving. Eventually, he had moved out to the living room and nearly glowered at the touches of her presence; a sweater thrown over the back of a chair, a book on the table, some of the scented candles she favored.
"You will go to your apartment?" he asked after several minutes of silence. He couldn't understand what she was waiting for.
Slowly, she nodded. "For now. I sent my Mom a text, asking her to help me look for another place…." Trailing off, she moved to the door. "I'm thinking a place outside the city," she continued, fiddling with her keys. "Somewhere safer. I'll have Miroku help me with barriers and wards, probably. Keade, too."
There was a small part of him that almost wished she had said she was staying at the apartment over the shop. It would have given him a valid reason to tell her she was not allowed to go. "Hn. You will keep me apprised of the pups condition?"
Again, she nodded, and opened the door. "Goodbye, Sesshoumaru."
Only when the door closed behind her did Sesshoumaru let out a breath, barely aware of the towel neatly shredded in half between his hands.
