Missing

Tearing apart the house to put it all back together again was nothing like it had been with the shop. While she would have liked to do most if not all of the work herself, the delicate nature of being pregnant made that a tad bit impossible.

But Kagome found that even with all the help of her friends and family, it was just as much as a transformation of her heart as it had been with the store. There was laughter and cursing, music and fun. Almost every night someone was over helping her with something so that for the most part, she never even gave the reason for the necessity of living alone much thought.

Not when she was with them, anyway. But alone at night, Kagome couldn't help but to cringe over the photos in the newspapers and on the Internet. She hadn't any kind of romantic claim on him, either now or before, but it still hurt to see him with a different woman on his arm at every big event he attended.

Even these thoughts were passing though, more a sigh of memory, a breath of friendship that never had the chance to grow, than anything significant. When she had decided to leave Sesshoumaru's penthouse, she had made the conscious effort to never let another person bring her down. She told herself missing him wasn't the same, that she was allowed to miss something they had both missed out on.
