Afraid? The damned chit was afraid of him? Irritated beyond what was probably necessary, he couldn't even be bothered to fight back the scowl. "She knows I will not hurt her," he bit out. "What more is there to be frightened of?"
"Twins, My Lord," the tree demon murmured. "She is worried you will take one, or considering your less than…pleasant attitude towards her, both. She fears you will not allow her to see or be near them."
Even as pride gathered inside of him at the news that he was to have not just one, but two pups, there was something akin to hurt that she would think he could do such a thing to her, and to their children. Perhaps they were not on the best of terms, but he knew enough about young to know they would thrive with their mothers, and that this particular mother would not allow any of her children to learn and grow and live, without her.
Unsurprised at the demon Lord's silence, Bokusenou bit back a smile. Higurashi had no such fear, but Sesshoumaru had no need to question him. It probably never even occurred to the Inu that he would dare to utter a lie, and with his centuries of age and experience over the younger demon, Bokusenou was secure in the knowledge that no hint of the lie echoed in his scent. "You cannot fault her in this fear, My Lord. You have much more power in this world than she does. If you chose to do it, you have the power to destroy her and everything she holds dear."
'But I would not, ´ he thought, his mind almost blank now in a careful attempt to blank the hurt out. "Is there anything else?" he demanded, content with the fact that his face was as impassive as ever, if in nothing else.
"A party, My Lord."
A brow rose without much thought and effort and Sesshoumaru consigned the news of her fear to the back of his mind for later thought, when he was alone. "For the holiday, I presume."
Bokusenou smiled broadly, at least as much as his leathery, wrinkled cheeks would allow. "Yes. She bid me to pass this invitation on to you." That said, he reached into his briefcase and pulled out a slim envelope, passing it to the younger demon.
Sesshoumaru took and opened it, scanned the time and date quickly. "It is being held in her house?" he asked idly. He had yet to receive an invitation to see the place.
"Yes. I've been led to understand that only the first level is inhabitable, and she will begin construction on the second level after the holidays have passed."
Gold eyes darkened in thought, and Sesshoumaru put that away for further thought as well. With the new information the tree demon had provided him, he already had a plan of action in mind. "There is one more thing, before we are finished here," he murmured.
