Olivia sat in the waiting room crying her eyes out. Maya sat next to her not sure what to say. This was horrible. Fitz had a few scrapes and bruises. He was going to be okay. The doctors didn't have a good outlook for Amelia. Because she was so small, her injuries were really bad. She was still unconscious. Bernadette and Julia were on their way to the hospital. Maya was already there visiting her babies when Olivia called.
"Is Amelia going to be okay?" Sophia said.
Maya didn't want Sophia to start crying. She had to get her away from all the sadness.
"Let's go to the vending machine."
"What about Olivia?"
"She'll be okay." Maya said, taking Karen with her and Sophia.
Olivia dried her tears when the doctor tried to get her attention. The doctor waited patiently for Olivia to pull herself together.
"Is she awake yet?"
"Yes."
"Can I see her?"
"Not yet. You had an argument?"
"Not with Amelia. With Fitz. Amelia got in the middle of it, and she was upset."
"That little girl has been through a lot. I broke the news about the car accident to Amelia. I wondered what happened to her after the accident."
"You were on duty that day?"
"I remember that day very clearly. She was in the waiting room for hours. My patient knew Amelia's dad. She was trying to find Amelia's family. What I don't understand...is why you weren't here that day?"
"I was working."
"Has she had counseling?"
"No."
"I only have pieces of the story, so I don't know everything about your relationship to Amelia. I do know she needs a good therapist."
Olivia looked away from the doctor and he continued.
"I have to interview everyone who was at your house when the accident happened. You know that. Her Aunt Sophia has told me many things. More than I needed to know about the accident. I'm not releasing her to you until you have regular appointments scheduled with a therapist."
"Okay."
"You should really put some ice on your eye."
Olivia looked away again. She was so embarrassed.
"You can see Fitz. Amelia cannot have any visitors without a doctor or nurse present."
"Okay."
Fitz was watching TV when Olivia sat beside him. He tried to smile. His bruises would fade in a few weeks.
"I'm sorry for causing all of this."
"It's not all your fault."
"Amelia is awake. We can't see her without a doctor or nurse, and she can't go home until she has appointments scheduled with a therapist."
"She needs that. You both need therapy."
"I thought we were okay."
"Jake is dead, and he still lives in your mind. I really do think you care about Amelia, but not like you care about Karen. You need to let Jake stay dead. Amelia can sense your hatred for him, and she is internalizing the hatred. You should also get some ice for your swollen eye. She hit you really hard."
"I can't go to work like this."
"Well I guess we will be home together. I'm sure your eye won't be swollen when we go to LA. That's something we can smile about."
"I'm not looking forward to audition for anything."
"You are going to be an actress. That's your dream, and your dreams will come true."
"I want you to be an astronaut."
Fitz laughed, "I have a better chance of being the leader of the free world on a popular TV show than an astronaut."
"Wow that's really specific."
"Let me hold you."
Olivia laid next to Fitz being careful not to lean on his bruises until a nurse came to get her. Amelia was sitting up. Bruises were all over her arms where the car knocked her over.
"Am I dead?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Why do you want to die?"
"Because nobody wants me here."
"We do want you."
"You left Scotland without me."
"I was upset."
Amelia closed her eyes. "Am I dead yet?"
"No."
"Why can't I die?"
"Sophia wants you here. Why did you run in the street?"
"I thought I would die if I got hit by a car. Then I would be with my other mom and dad again."
"Why do you want to go with them?"
"They didn't give me food, but at least they wanted me. They never left me until they died. Why can't they come back and take me with them?"
"You do need therapy."
"I'm going to run in the street again when I get out of the hospital, and I'm going to make sure I die."
"I have to ask you to leave Olivia." The nurse said.
"Why?"
"I have to get her doctor. She is talking about suicide."
"I'll get her a therapist."
"Amelia needs a psychiatrist."
"She will be fine. She's upset."
"You heard Amelia say she tried to die. This wasn't an accident."
"What's the big deal?" Amelia said.
"Suicide is very serious." The nurse said.
