October 28
We got back from our trip to save Koga's wolf tribe today and what an interesting journey it was.
The morning we left, I made us all breakfast while Inuyasha and Koga glared at each other the whole time.
"Your food is so good, Kagome," Koga said while we were eating. "I wish I had you around to cook for me all the time."
"Well that's too bad, isn't it?" Inuyasha said snarkily.
"I can't compliment Kagome's cooking without you butting in?!"
"If you keep it up we won't make it to the wolf tribe. I'll kill you before we even get there."
"I'd like to see you try…!"
"No one is killing anyone!" I said. Then I sighed exasperatedly. I had a feeling this wasn't going to get any better but if I could at least keep them from killing each other I'd consider this whole endeavor a success.
After breakfast, we headed out. Inuyasha carried me on his back and he ran with Koga from the village. The two of them were glaring at each other the whole time.
"Would you two stop looking at each other like that?" I said. "This is going to be a long trip if you guys don't at least try to be nice to each other."
"I could care less about that mutt," Koga said. Instead, he looked ahead of us. "I just hope everyone isn't dead by the time we get there."
"That's not going to happen," I reassured him. "The wolf demons are strong. I'm sure they've been able to hold their own while you've been gone."
"What are these demons like, anyway?" Inuyasha asked.
"Giant, slimy lizards. Ten feet long at the most. I'm not sure where they came from or why they want to eat wolves so badly. They also fly and breathe fire for some reason."
"They sound horrible," I said.
"Some of my wolves have been carried away by them and some were eaten on the spot. Whenever we destroy them, it just seems like more appear."
"You can use your wind scar on them, Yasha," I said.
"Heh, I think the wind scar will take them out easily," Inuyasha said confidently.
When we finally arrived at the mountain where the wolf demons live, everything was chaos. The wolf demons were in battle mode, attacking the very large lizards that roared and screeched as they swooped in to grab them. Some of the lizards came from the air and some burrowed straight out of the ground and a lot of things were on fire.
Ginta and Hakakku saw us first.
"Koga's back!" Hakakku exclaimed as they came over to us.
"And he brought Inuyasha and Kagome!" Ginta said.
"Hi guys," I said as Inuyasha put me down on my feet.
"What's the damage?" Koga asked them.
"Five have died since you left," Hakakku said. "A lot more are injured. We've been trying our best but there are so many of them and they're just so strong."
"And all the fire doesn't make it any easier," Ginta added.
"Where's Ayame?"
Ginta and Hakakku looked around. "Hmm, where is Ayame?" Ginta wondered.
"You idiots! I told you to keep an eye on Ayame!" Koga exclaimed.
"It's not our fault, she just ran off to fight the lizards. You know how she is."
"Koga, you're back!" Ayame exclaimed. We saw her jump gracefully down from the mountain, stab a lizard along the way and then land next to him and give him a hug. "I'm so glad you're back."
Koga hugged her back. "I'm glad you're safe."
"And you brought Inuyasha, thank goodness!"
Koga rolled his eyes at the smirk Inuyasha threw his way. "Yeah, yeah, Inuyasha's here. Now let's get back to fighting these bastards."
"They're really vicious," Ayame said to us. "Please be careful. So many people have been injured already."
"We'll just see how strong they are against my tetsusaiga," Inuyasha said as he pulled the sword out.
Just as he said it one of the lizards charged at us with its giant teeth bared. Inuyasha was ready though. He cut through it with the tetsusaiga and the lizard was dead and in pieces.
"Alright, Inuyasha!" Ginta and Hakakku exclaimed.
Koga rolled his eyes. "That's not that impressive."
"We'll see if you say that after I save all your scrawny tails!" Inuyasha said. It looked like some of the other lizards had taken notice of us and were coming straight this way. "Stay behind me, Kagome," Inuyasha said.
He launched his wind scar and those lizards were destroyed but there were more coming. Koga was right, they seemed endless.
Inuyasha cut them down with his sword. Meanwhile, Koga, Ayame, Ginta, Hakakku, and I took out more as they came at us. Then a particularly huge lizard was coming at us from the air and breathed a large burst of fire at us. We screamed. Inuyasha grabbed me and we jumped out of the way. Just as he put me down another lizard took advantage of his distraction and hit him with its tail sending him flying 10 feet away. His head hit a rock and the tetsusaiga flew out of his hand.
"Inuyasha!" I exclaimed. I tried to run over to him but two lizards got between us. The horrible things stared me down and started running towards me. I shot an arrow at one of them but the other jumped at me. I prepared to be attacked but suddenly it was cut down.
"Iron reaver soul stealer!"
I was relieved that Inuyasha had saved me and that he was okay.
Fire came out of nowhere again and Inuyasha pulled me out of the way. I could see why the wolves were overwhelmed. These things were ruthless.
"Ginta! Hakakku!" Inuyasha called.
They ran over to us. "Yeah?"
"Take Kagome somewhere safe and watch over her," Inuyasha said. Then he took off his fire rat robe. "Put this on," he said, putting it over my head.
"But you'll need it more," I protested.
"I'll be fine. Just don't do anything stupid." He lifted my chin and kissed me.
"I love you," I said.
He smiled. "I love you too. I'll be right back." Then he ran off and shot another wind scar at the lizard demons.
"Come on, Kagome," Ginta said, taking my hand. "You heard what he said."
They took me behind some rocks where the lizard demons wouldn't see us. Luckily I could still see Inuyasha from here.
"I'm so worried about him," I said. He was plowing through the lizards with his tetsusaiga but there was fire everywhere. "I wish he had kept this," I said, pulling his robe around me.
"Inuyasha will be fine," Ginta said. "He just wants you to be safe."
Despite how worried I was, I was grateful to him for protecting me. He had been so concerned about me lately and I didn't want to make him upset so, as difficult as it was, I stayed put as he told me to.
He and Koga were side-by-side fighting the lizards. Koga would punch one, Inuyasha would slice through another with the tetsusaiga. Koga would stab a lizard with his own sword and Inuyasha would cut down the next one with his claws. It was actually refreshing to see them working together.
Another huge lizard demon was flying at them.
"Hey mutt, heads up!" Koga said.
He jumped into the air and grabbed the lizard by the tail. He swung it around and Inuyasha obliterated it with his sword in a flash of light. It had been the biggest demon yet and they had defeated it together.
The two of them laughed and high fived. I was amazed, I'd never seen them get along so well.
Unfortunately, they were so excited that they had stopped paying attention. Another demon was coming their way.
"Look out!" I shouted.
They turned around just in time for the demon to open its mouth and let out a huge blast of fire.
