I can't divulge too much without spoilers, but I will say this "arc" won't last long

"Ashley, you've had enough time. I would like you to come back to school today." Kukui said at breakfast.

It had been a little over a week since 'Ashley' had returned from the hospital, and staying inside was doing 'her' no good.

"Are you sure Uncle, I can keep babysitting Lei, it's no problem." Ashley said, still not sure of how things would go.

"While it's been nice, you still need to live a normal life, and for now that means being in school." Kukui said plainly. "Tell you what. How about you keep Mudkip out of his Pokeball, and take him with you to class. Would that make you feel better?"

"I guess." Ashley said still a bit uneasy.

"Then it's settled, go and grab your bag, or you'll be late." Kukui said with a smile.

As Ashley walked to the school, everything still hadn't come back. She had made three wrong turns, almost being late for class. She knew the path, just some of it hadn't come back to her quite yet.

"Ash...ley! Over here!" Lana yelled, seeing her friend a bit lost.

"Thanks Lana, I guess I'm not all there yet." Ashley said, a bit embarrassed.

"No one will blame you. We're just happy you're okay." Lana said, guiding Ash through the school.

In the classroom

"Kiawe you look exhausted." Sophocles said looking at Kiawe.

"I woke up extra early to look for Pikachu before making deliveries. No sign of him yet." Kiawe said with a sigh. "I doubt he's left Melemele though."

"Alright class, once Lana gets back with Ash, we can begin our lesson." Professor Kukui said.

"So is it Ash, or Ashley?" Lillie asked.

"Ash still believes himself to be Ashley, so until that's cleared, it's less stressful for them to be called Ashley." Kukui said with a sigh.

"Third door down." Lana's voice was heard.

Moments later Ash entered the doorway, Mudkip in his arms.

"Glad to see you made it Ashley." Professor Kukui said with a smile. "How about you take your seat, and we can begin." Professor Kukui said.

Ashley went and sat down at her desk, as Mudkip found a comfortable spot to rest in. He wasn't sure why he was out this much, but he was enjoying it.

As the day went on, things seemed to go smoothly, Ashley was even able to answer a few questions that Ash likely knew.

"Alright class, tomorrow we're going to be trying a new ride pokemon service that's being offered, called Mantine surfing. So be ready to get wet, and I'll see most of you tomorrow." Professor Kukui said.

As he packed his things, he saw Ash standing in front of the blackboard.

"Is everything alright Ashley?" Professor Kukui asked.

"I'm not sure, I just feel like there's something important behind here." Ashley said, placing her hand against the board.

Kukui knew that was roughly where the lock to get into the Ultra Guardians base was, maybe more memories were coming back.

"Can you tell me anything else?" Kukui asked, wanting Ash to jog his own memories.

"I'm not sure, it just feels like!" Ashley suddenly stopped.

Memories of the Ultra Guardians, Garchomp, Nebby, and the Ultra Beasts flooded her mind.

"I remember." Ashley said, reaching for a button, underneath Kukui's desk.

The blackboard moved up as the lock system appeared. Tentatively, Ashley placed her hand on the scanner. As it scanned her hand, Kukui watched in awe.

"Do you want to see what's down there?" Professor Kukui asked, placing a hand on Ash's shoulder.

Mudkip following close behind, Ashley stepped onto Ash's old spot, as the platform went down. An ultra guardian jumpsuit appearing on her.

"This place, why can I remember how to get here, but not this room." Ashley said looking around, not seeing much of an exit in sight.

Ashley and Mudkip eventually found a staircase leading back out, by the time they were out of the school, it was already dark.

"Uncle Kukui is going to be so mad at me!" Ashley said, running back towards their house.

"Ashley, glad to see you've made it back." Professor Burnett said, giving her a hug.

"You're not angry?" Ashley said, confused.

"Kukui told me where you went, and we agreed that if you weren't home in another hour we'd go looking, but we felt seeing the island would help you." Burnett said motherly. "Come on I'll reheat your dinner."

"Aunt Burnett, what is that lab under the classroom?" Ashley asked, during her dinner.

"Don't you remember, it's the Ultra Guardian base. You used to go there all the time." Burnett explained.

"I remember how to get there, but once I was there, I couldn't remember anything about it." Ashley said, confused.

"I'm sure it will come back to you in time." Burnett said.

As Ashley drifted off to sleep, she found herself back in a familiar dreamscape.

"Krai? Are you there?" Ashley asked stepping through the nowhere.

"Hello there Ashley, it's been a few days." Krai responded from seemingly all directions.

"I left the house on my own for the first time today, and I got lost, a lot. I was hoping you maybe found some more memories maybe about the layout of the island?" Ashley asked hopefully.

"Let me show you what I've recovered." Krai said playing more memories.

Ashley saw her visiting Oranguru's juice bar, the school, Lana's house, Lillie's mansion, and then a river. Ashley jolted awake with a cold sweat, and a scream.

"Ashley! Are you okay!" Kukui shouted, running in.

"I remember, I fell, didn't I." Ashley said, hugging her knees.

Kukui looked sorrowfully before comforting Ash. "Yeah, you fell into a ravine. That's why you can't remember everything right now."

"How, how am I still here?" Ashley asked.

"The Island Guardian, he watches over us all, and protects us as well. Now come on it's late, try and go back to sleep. I'll be right here until you do." Kukui said, soothingly.

As Ashley uneasily drifted off, she found herself in the dreamscape again.

"I must apologize for that. I wasn't aware it would have such an affect." Krai said.

"It's, it's okay. I'm glad I know now. Hopefully it will help." Ashley said. "Was there anything else you found?"

"Of course let me show you." Krai said eagerly.

Memories of Ashley's accomplishments, from competitions to races, even just game nights with her family played in front of her.

"Some happier memories, to offset the fear." Krai said to himself.

Back in the awake world, Kukui having seen Ash peacefully asleep, carefully made his way back to his own room, until he heard Lei crying now. It was going to be a long night. Unaware of the looming presence around them.
