Chapter 63: Blackout
A/N: I do not own the Teen Titans
Richard POV
"Drive faster!" I yell at one of Bruce's security guards. Now that we have Kori's location, I don't want to waste any more time.
"I think we should slow down," Bruce said. I turn back in my seat to face him. "Why?" I ask coldly.
"According to the tracker, Kori is moving; we should slow down and be on alert," Bruce said and uses his walkie to instruct the other car to do the same.
The guard slows down, and my anxiety starts. She must have escaped, I sigh. I'm happy she took the risk to run, but it makes me more anxious. Xavier isn't the most stable person mentally, so who knows what he will do.
"She should be up ahead," Bruce said
I see a blurry moving figure as we get closer; my vision starts to clear as I see a disheveled woman waving her hands frantically. As we get closer, I see her worried, fearful expression.
"Stop the car!" I yell, and the guard slams on the brakes. I fumble with my seatbelt and tear the door open. I get out of the car, and I see a woman with bright red hair, green eyes pricked with tears, her clothes are covered in dirt, and her hair is a mess, but she looks beautiful to me despite all this.
"Kori!" I yell, and I choke back tears. It's her.
She looks at me, confused as if I am an illusion; I give her a small smile hoping she will realize that it's me. I'm right here. Her eyes widen, and she rushes over and wraps her arms around me.
"Kori, are you ok?" I ask as I rub her back to soothe her. The front of my shirt feels cold and wet, and I realize she is sobbing. My vision is blurring too, and I think tears down my cheek as I bury my face in her hair.
"Is... this ... real?" she asks in between tears.
"Yes, Kori, I'm here," I said, "I'm sorry I took so long to find you," I said. I wish she was never taken. These past few days have been the hardest in my life. Not knowing if you were safe, not having you in my arms. I miss having you by my side when I sleep and nagging me in the morning to get up. I miss everything about you. I love you.
"It doesn't matter," she said, "You're here now," she said and gives me a small smile. She always sees the best in me no matter what.
"Search the area," a police officer said. Distracting me from my jumbled thoughts. I had been so caught up in finally finding Kori that I forgot about Xavier. Bruce, we need to-.
"We will find him, no matter what it takes," Bruce said, cutting off my thoughts. He then walks over to us, "You're safe now, Kori" he gives her a small reassuring smile, which still looks more like a scowl.
Kori smiles, "Thank you for finding me," she said. Bruce nods, then walk away.
"That man has no emotion," I said, and Kori giggles. Her laugh resonates in my heart, and I finally feel alive again. "Gosh, I missed that sound," I said as I kiss her forehead.
She looks up at me and gives me one of the biggest smiles I've seen. My breath is taken away, and I rub her cheek, my words are lost, and my surroundings fade as I pull her tighter to my chest. I finally have her back, and I am not ready to let her go yet. She rubs her face against my chest and peers up at me, and bats her eyelashes. I ignore the dirty memory in my mind from the last time she gave me that look. She pushes herself off my chest and looks at me in horror. I look at her, concerned, wondering what's wrong. Is she injured? I curse myself for being selfish. I should have let her get medical attention first; who knows what Xavier did to her, and my blood starts to boil when I think of what I will do when I get my hands on that sick twisted bastard.
"Richard," she said, her voice is still hoarse from crying. I look at her, worried.
"There a target…" she whispers. Target, I glance down, and I see a red dot moving along my chest. Xavier, I knew this bastard would have a backup plan. How could I have been so stupid? I should have known he would have a plan in place. I will not let this bastard hurt her again.
I push her away, "Kori, head toward the car!" I yell as I stand frozen. I start analyzing my options as I notice the yelling attracts the police's attention, and their guns are drawn as they run east.
"Find him now!" Bruce yells, frantic. His eyes are wide with fear. It's the first time I've ever seen him afraid.
I glance around my surroundings to see if I can make a run for it and take cover. Before I can move, I hear a gunshot as someone slams into my chest, shielding me. I glance down and see wide green eyes staring back at me.
No. I glance in horror when I realize it's Kori," No, no!" I yell as Kori slumps to the ground. I hold her in my arms and sob. "Kori, why did you do that?" I ask in anger and grief. I pushed her away to be safe, but instead, she took a bullet for me. Blood starts pouring on my hand that is on her back, but I continue putting pressure on the wound.
"SOMEONE GET HELP," I yell, frantic.
"Richard..." Kori says weakly, and she opens her eyes.
"I'm here, Kori," I said and pull her closer to me in my lap, "It's going to be ok. Help is on the way," I said.
"Just hang in there," I said. "Please…" I whisper.
Kori gives me a small smile and raises her hand to place it on my cheek, "I love you," she said.
Her hand falls from my cheek, and her eyes close.
I scream.
A/N: Dun dun dun! Just a few announcements, Gotham Academy, will be coming to an end soon. Still, I do have a new story planned that will be released once Gotham Academy ends! I've enjoyed writing this series and can't wait to start a new one! Anyway, Soo, what do you think? Please review, follow, favorite, or all 3!
