Olivia put ointment on her scar with a q-tip and swallowed the antibiotic with a cup of water. She pulled the blanket over her bare shoulders and waited for the nurse to bring her babies. It was freezing in the hospital, and she was so tired. She had to do skin to skin before she could sleep. Her phone rang and she knew it was Karen. Fitz called a few minutes ago, and she ignored his call.
"Hello?"
"Mom, where are you?"
"The hospital."
"Why is dad here?"
"He's going to stay with you until I come home later today. Where is Fitz right now?"
"He's downstairs. He asked me what I wanted for breakfast. I want French toast. Mom is dad a stranger now?"
"No you're safe with Fitz."
"Okay."
"Karen I have to call you later. The nurse is here with the babies."
"Okay."
The nurse carefully put the babies on Olivia's chest and covered them with the blanket. Olivia loved holding her babies. She didn't like that her breasts seemed to leak more milk when they were on her chest. Someone was always hungry. Figuring out how to feed two babies while the other baby laid on her stomach was a challenge. She couldn't put the baby too close to her scar without causing herself pain. She needed help rotating the babies when one finished with a feeding. There was always a nurse close by to assist. Olivia didn't know how she was going to balance her career and kids. The babies were going to need constant attention. Karen needed attention. This was her first time being home with Olivia in four months. Harrison was a great friend, and he needed to have his own life again. He couldn't be there for Olivia every day. He was going to eventually start making friends in DC. Olivia was still alone.
When each baby was fed, Olivia asked the nurse to put them in their bassinets. She put her arms back in her hospital gown. Now she could sleep. That is until Harrison came in a few minutes later with a shopping bag from Target.
"I bought something for your little guy."
"You've spent enough money on my babies."
"Look at this."
Harrison took a sports onsie, the matching hat and socks out of the bag.
"Oh that's cute. Thank you."
"I also bought you these bottles. They are supposed to reduce air in the bottle, so he shouldn't puke. The sales associate told me that."
"Thank you."
"Can I hold him?"
"Yes, be careful and wash your hands."
Harrison washed his hands and lifted the boy out of his bassinet. He whimperd and Harrison walked around with him.
"I'm here for you. I'll always be here for you." He said in a soft voice.
"I appreciate you Harrison. I know you could be out exploring DC and making new friends."
"New friends can wait. You are my priority right now."
"Thank you. I don't know how long Fitz is going to be around. He's unreliable."
"I think you should find out why he's here. I also think you shouldn't rush to get an explanation from him. You have to think about your health and the babies. Not his problems."
"I'll let him come see the babies. I really don't think we have a future together. He left me when I needed him the most. I'm better off being a single mom."
