Disneyanimationfan: I based that decision on the movie, because it seems like it doesn't fully click for Hiccup why Toothless can't fly until Gobber tells them about aiming for wings and tails (and that's when Hiccup starts work on the tailfin). So idk if he really didn't figure it out until then, or if that's just when he decided to do something about it, but I'm going with the former haha
FangirlAuthor: I'm really glad you're enjoying it! Unfortunately, it's only going to go up to the beginning of Riders of Berk, but I have a reason for that :D
Entry 65
Despite the constant humiliation from my peers, I almost don't even care. I learned something rather interesting last night.
It turns out, Gobber's assignment for us was to read Berk's Dragon Manual. Tuffnut, Ruffnut, and Snotlout were gone immediately; they're not the reading type. Fishlegs, who's read it several times, ran after them, spouting random facts all the way. And Astrid… after I mentioned sharing, she just pushed it at me and coldly said "read it" before stomping away. I tried to ignore their clear avoidance of me, waiting until everyone else in the Hall had left before even opening the book.
Most of it was just what I expected. Stats, abilities, tips for killing… I admit it did scare me a bit, reading all the horrifying descriptions. But when I got to the Night Fury page… it was nearly empty.
Speed: unknown.
Size: unknown.
The unholy offspring of lightning and death itself. Never engage this dragon. Your only option: hide and pray it does not find you.
As I sat there, rereading these words over and over again, I took out my sketchbook, opening it to my drawing. And, when I laid it out in the empty space an illustration should have been, I knew. Everything in this book… it was wrong. It was written from one perspective, without any attempt to even TRY and understand the other. It made me wonder just how many things we didn't know, how much misinformation we'd gone our whole lives blindly believing.
But one thing stuck with me. Surely this couldn't be ALL that was written about Night Furies. I know we've never caught one before, but there has to be more stories. Even made up ones, like Gobber's embellished war tales… how is this it? I'm going to ask Gobber tomorrow, at Training. Rumor is he's unleashing a Deadly Nadder on us. I can't wait…
Until next time…
