November 1
We played Monopoly again yesterday, this time at Miroku and Sango's house. I tried to suggest something different but Inuyasha insisted that we have to play Monopoly again to knock Miroku off his pedestal.
"Oh good, you brought Monopoly!" Sango said when we got there yesterday evening.
"I'm going to wipe the floor with you guys again," Miroku said deviously.
"You wish, monk!" Inuyasha said. "There's no way you're going to win this time."
We laid out the game and started to set everything up. Meanwhile, the girls were playing and it reminded me that in my era, it was Halloween.
"They're playing a new game where they pretend to be different characters," Sango said when she noticed I was watching the children.
"Reminds me of Halloween," I said.
"What's Halloween?"
"It's a holiday in my era. It's actually today."
"What are you supposed to do for Halloween?" Miroku asked.
"People dress up as different things, mainly scary things but they dress up as anything you can imagine: witches, princesses, superheroes, ghosts. And they decorate everything to look really scary with things like spider webs and gravestones and skeletons. The idea is that scary things are supposed to ward off evil spirits."
My friends seemed fascinated by this. "It must be a really interesting day," Sango said.
"Oh yeah, it's great. People really look forward to it. Then at night people go to Halloween parties and, mainly the kids, go trick or treating. That's when you go to different houses and say 'trick or treat' and the people there give you candy."
"What's the point of that part?" Inuyasha asked.
"It's just a fun tradition. Sota and I used to go trick or treating all the time. The last time we went we had these big pumpkin shaped containers and they were filled to the brim with candy by the end of the night."
"I'm sure the girls would love that," Sango said as she glanced at the twins playing.
"Do you do anything else for Halloween?" Miroku asked.
"Lots of things," I said wistfully. "We would make Halloween themed treats like cookies and cupcakes decorated like ghosts and bats. We would carve pumpkins to have scary faces then put candles inside them and sit them on the porch. We called those Jack-O-Lanterns. We would also go to haunted houses or haunted corn mazes where people dressed up as monsters and zombies would try to scare us."
My friends became swept up in talking about Halloween for a moment.
"I can just imagine dressing the kids up in cute little monster outfits," Sango said giggling. "I know they would love that so much. I think they'd also love making those Halloween treats. They've got such a sweet tooth after all."
"I'd like to see you dressed up, my dear," Miroku said to her. "Maybe as a sexy witch or a sexy vampire?"
Sango blushed and pushed him away. "Oh stop."
"I think the haunted houses would be the coolest part," Inuyasha said thoughtfully. "Can you imagine?"
"Oh yeah, it would really be entertaining to watch you get scared," Sango said jokingly.
"Oh please, I'd be the one doing the scaring. That's what would make it fun!"
While they talked I imagined them all in my era during Halloween. Halloween was one of my favorite holidays and I'd actually been thinking about it all day. I especially missed my era right now since the holiday season was here. But people here didn't know of those types of things yet so it just wasn't the same. For now, my memories and sharing them with my friends would have to be enough.
Inuyasha seemed to pick up on how I was feeling. He stopped talking about dressing up as a bloody zombie and chasing people through a corn maze and kissed my cheek.
"Alright guys, let's play the game," he said. I gave him a grateful smile and he kissed me again.
We played the game and at first, it looked like Miroku was going to win again. But then things changed when he was the one that ended up in jail. Inuyasha went to jail first but he had managed to get the Get Out Of Jail Free card this time and wouldn't sell it to Miroku. Then things turned around and I was the one who won the game!
"Yes!" I exclaimed. "So this is what victory feels like!"
"I'm just glad Miroku didn't win," Inuyasha said.
"Inuyasha, you're such a hater," Miroku said. He looked at Sango. "I think it's time to put the kids to bed, dear."
Sure enough, they were all starting to nod off. The two went over to pick them up.
"When we're done, I got this amazing new sake that you two should try," Miroku said to us.
Inuyasha and I put the game in the box while they were gone and when they came back from putting the kids to bed Miroku poured some sake for all of us.
"Are you sure it's good?" I asked. For the most part, I didn't like the taste of sake.
"I promise it is."
I took a sip of it and to my surprise, it was actually good. "Wow, I like it!"
"Told ya!"
I downed the rest of it and quickly became tipsy but it was delicious and I started to pour more.
"You might want to slow down, Kagome," Sango said. "This is good but it's really strong."
I giggled. "Oh Sango, I'll be fine. Just a little more."
"Thanks, Miroku, you've turned my wife into an alcoholic," Inuyasha said.
"I'm not an alcoholic, Yasha," I said even though I could hardly talk without slurring anymore. "This stuff is just sooooo gooood." I reached for the bottle again but Inuyasha stopped me.
"No more for you," he said.
I leaned into his shoulder. "Pleeaase, baby? Don't you love me?"
"Of course I love you, that's why I'm stopping you."
"You know, baby, since it's Halloween maybe I should dress up as a sexy zombie for you," I said, running my fingers down his chest.
Miroku and Sango giggled.
Inuyasha was blushing furiously. "Kagome…"
"When we get home, I'm gonna put in some of that underwear we got in my era and be your little sex goddess."
"Kagome!"
"Sex goddess, huh?" Miroku said with a smirk.
"Alright, I think it's time for you to go home," Inuyasha said standing me up. "No more sake for you."
"But it was gooood! Miroku will give me sake."
"Inuyasha's right, Kagome. You've had a little bit too much."
I tried to walk but I stumbled instead. Inuyasha sighed and picked me up and then grabbed the game. "We'll see you guys later," he said.
He carried me home and I had my arms around him and my face buried in his neck the whole time. "Yasha, are we gonna have sex when we get home?"
"No, you're going to lay down and get some rest. I can't believe you drank that much sake."
"But it was…"
"Yes, I know it was good."
By now we arrived at home and Inuyasha took me into our room and lay me down. I still wanted him though so I tried to get on top of him and pull his robe off but he stopped me. I felt rejected and I started crying.
And of course, Inuyasha hates it when I cry. "Hey, Kagome...come on baby, don't cry…"
"But you don't love me…!"
"Yes I do, honey…"
"Then...then why don't you want to have sex with me?" I sobbed.
Inuyasha kissed my forehead. "I'm not going to have sex with you while you're drunk, Kagome. That just feels...wrong." He kissed my lips gently. "Don't you know I care about you?"
I started to feel better after that and nodded. "Mm-hmm."
He started to take my shoes off. "Now how about you lay down and rest? I'll make you some tea. You're going to have one hell of a hangover tomorrow."
I lay down under the covers while he went to get the tea but I don't remember much of what happened after that. I think I might have fallen asleep.
All I know is that I slept in really late this morning and when I woke up I had a horrible headache.
"Good morning," Inuyasha said. He was still laying next to me.
"Why does my head hurt so much?"
"It probably has to do with all the sake you drank last night."
"I…" Then it all started to come back to me: talking about Halloween, Monopoly, the sake, and all of the horribly embarrassing things I said while we were at Miroku and Sango's house. "Oh no!"
Inuyasha chuckled. "Yeah, you had it bad. I'm guessing you're not going to get drunk again, are you?"
"Not a chance! I can't believe I did that."
"It was strong sake."
"You seem fine."
"Well I didn't have as much as you did and I'm a half-demon so there's that." He leaned down and kissed me. "How about I make you that tea?"
"Thank you, honey."
I spent the better part of my afternoon in bed trying to get over my hangover. I feel like most people my age in my era spent their night at Halloween parties drinking and dealing with their own hangovers this morning. This wasn't the part of Halloween that I had wanted to recreate though...
