November 5
I've spent the past few days enjoying the fall weather, doing general miko things like providing herbs and blessings, spending time with my friends, and of course, cuddling and relaxing with my husband. Being with him was always my favorite part of the day. Ending the day laying in his arms was the best way to unwind.
Today we went for a walk outside the village and came across someone I haven't seen in a while.
As we were heading back home, walking hand in hand like we usually were, I noticed Inuyasha tense up a little bit.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"I smell something," he said.
Just as he said it, some kind of bat demon swooped down on us making a screeching noise. Inuyasha shielded me but before he could do anything, a bright green poisonous whip came from our right and slashed the demon to pieces.
We looked in that direction and were surprised to see Sesshomaru land on the ground next to us.
"Hi, Sesshomaru!" I said.
"What are you doing around here?" Inuyasha asked.
"Just passing through. I've been on some business lately," Sesshomaru said in his usual cool tone.
"Are you going to go visit Rin?" I asked. "She's really missed you lately."
"She has?"
"Yeah, she told me the other day that she really wants to see you."
I caught a flash of something across Sesshomaru's face. It seemed like guilt or maybe even sadness. He had always been so hard and emotionless around us, it was unusual to see him betray any kind of emotion on his face. And yet, just as quickly his expression turned serious again.
"I'd rather visit her when I'm done with all this. I don't want to put her in harm's way."
"What are you doing that's so important anyway?" Inuyasha asked.
Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes at him. "That's not any concern of a half…" He stopped himself and looked away.
It didn't slip by Inuyasha though. "Go on, say it!" At the same time, he put his hand to his sword. I knew a fight was about to break out and I put my hand on his to stop him.
"Calm yourself. I don't have the time to fight with you anyway," Sesshomaru said, rolling his eyes. He turned to me. "Has he been treating you right?"
I was surprised that he had asked but considering the last time I'd actually seen him I was crying over a fight Inuyasha and I had, he seemed genuinely concerned.
Inuyasha's glare hardened. "Why you…!"
"He has," I said, giving my husband a hug for emphasis.
"Good." Sesshomaru turned to leave. "Tell Rin I'll be around to visit her in the coming weeks." With that he flew off.
"That bastard!" Inuyasha said as we continued to walk home. "The nerve of him even insinuating that I don't treat my wife well."
"He was just concerned."
"He didn't seem all that concerned when he was about to call me a half breed."
"I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it. You know how Sesshomaru is."
"He's an asshole, that's what he is."
"Don't get all worked up over it, honey. Sesshomaru just tries to get a rise out of you, that's all."
He leaned down and kissed me. "Maybe he needs a wife too so he can chill out a bit."
I giggled. "I think that would help."
"But who the hell would want to marry such a hard ass anyway?"
"I don't know honey, I'm sure someone would. After all, there's someone out there for everyone."
Inuyasha snickered. "Well the day Sesshomaru gets married will be a real surprise to me."
"Maybe he'll marry a human woman."
At that Inuyasha laughed. "If that ever happens, I'll have seen everything!"
