"Hmm...how odd," Sanosuke mused as he looked at the clock. "Kagome and that friend of hers should have been back by now."
"That is a bit odd," Atsuko conceded as she looked at the clock. "Even during a day off, Kagome's not one to be late to come back home. She'd call me if she was running late or something." She then sighed as she went to the kitchen. "Oh, well...I'm sure she's just fine."
"How can you be so sure, Atsuko?" asked Sanosuke with that usual protective attitude that only a grandfather could project. "Ever since that boy appeared, our fine young Kagome is becoming rather irresponsible!"
"Dad, stop," Atsuko chided. "She's with Inuyasha. What harm could she possibly get into with him around?"

"HRAAAAARGH!" Inuyasha roared as he and the demon clashed, the latter grinning madly as he held back the half-demon's sword with only his bare hand. Kagome gasped as she stood back, her hands clasped over her mouth in shock as Inuyasha tried to fight the demon off, the shockwave of demonic power nearly knocking her off her feet.
"Kagome!" Inuyasha called. "Don't just stand there, gawking! Shoot an arrow or something!"
"What are you talking about?!" Kagome questioned. "I don't have my bow and arrows!"
"WHAT?!" Inuyasha questioned as he looked back, but in doing so, he allowed the demon the opening he needed. He reeled his fist back and punched the half-demon in the gut, causing him to cough up bile as he was sent crashing against a wall.
"Inuyasha!" Kagome cried as she ran over to his side. "Are you okay?!"
"Urgh...dammit!" Inuyasha cursed as he wiped his lip.
"Heheheheh..." the demon chuckled, eyes flashing red as he began to advance. "Having trouble?" He pointed to the jewel shards in his forehead. "With these shards of Shikon Jewel, I am unbeatable!"
"What are we gonna do?!" Kagome asked.
"Keh!" Inuyasha scoffed as he stood up. "This guy doesn't scare me. I'll hack him into pieces, sooner or later!"
However, as he said this, Kagome noticed some people beginning to gather around...including a few police officers.
"Uh-oh..." Kagome muttered.
"What's going on here?" asked one of the officers.
"We heard this commotion and found these two, looking like they were about to fight," said a young woman. "Officer, one of them's holding a really big sword. That's pretty dangerous, isn't it?"
"All right, you there, with the silver wig," said the officer. "Put that butter knife. We're taking you to the police station for questioning."
"The what?" Inuyasha asked. "Listen, buddy, I'm busy dealing with this demon! If I were you, I'd stay out of the way!"
"Ha! 'Demon', he says," said another officer. "There's no such things as demons! What does he think this is? The 1500s?"
"Looks like we've got someone resisting to comply," said the first officer as he pulled out a set of cuffs and began to approach Inuyasha. "I guess we have no choice but to put you under arrest."
"No, wait, officers!" Kagome cried. "You don't under-"
"Young lady, please step away," said a woman officer as she tried to pull Kagome away from Inuyasha, who let out an angry growl as he pulled her back to his side.
"Don't you touch her!" he shouted while pointing the Tetsusaiga at the policewoman.
"Ah!" Kagome yelped. "I-Inuyasha!"
"Hey! Unhand the young lady, right now!" shouted the male officer.
"And you, in the leather jacket!" said another officer as he put his hand on the demon's shoulder. "We need to take you in, as well-"
All of a sudden, the demon reached out and grabbed the officer by the throat in the blink of an eye, much to the shock of the crowd.
"You're in my way..." the demon growled as he began to squeeze the policeman's throat, causing him to gag as he tried to pull his hand from his throat, but when that didn't work, he reached for the taser in his holster and tried to shoot the electrified wires into his chest...but even that didn't faze him. Soon, there was the sound of a sickening crunch, causing the policeman to let out a choked gasp...before he fell eerily still, causing the demon to toss him to the ground.
"Oh, my god!" cried a man in the crowd. "That officer's dead!"
"AAAAAAAAAAAAH!" a woman shrieked before everyone began to run away in different directions...which actually proved to be the perfect distraction. While the police officers were busy trying to keep everyone calm, Kagome grabbed Inuyasha by his shoulder.
"Quick!" she urged. "Let's get back to my house! Now!"
"What?!" Inuyasha questioned. "What about the demon?!"
"Trust me!" Kagome answered. "We gotta get outta here!"
Deciding it was best not to ask questions, Inuyasha quickly gathered Kagome onto his back and took off flying towards the sky, leaping away in a single bound. During this time, the policewoman was in her cruiser, trying to call for backup.
"This is Officer Yumi Hamada, requesting immediate backup!" she shouted into the radio. "We have a panicked crowd and an officer dead! The assailant is a young man in a black leather jacket and slicked-back hair! He was in a street fight with...some young man with a silver wig and wearing a red kimono, a baseball cap, and jeans! The suspect was holding a large sword!"
"A sword?! Are you crazy?!"
"No, I am not crazy, Rokusuke!" Officer Yumi yelled as she slammed her fist against the dashboard, but then she gasped as the window was suddenly smashed open and she was grabbed at the wrist by the same demon...who grinned at her with flashing red eyes and a mouth full of fangs.

"That was close!" said Kagome as she and Inuyasha flew through the air.
"Why were those people trying to take you away from me?!" Inuyasha asked as he kept jumping through the air. "And why were they trying to stop me from fighting that demon?!"
"I told you, Inuyasha!" Kagome answered. "This is a time where demons shouldn't exist anymore! They don't understand that you're not from this time period! To them, you were just some guy trying to cause trouble!"
"That demon was causing trouble, too!" argued Inuyasha. "He easily killed that man! That should've made them realize something was wrong!"
"All these people can't see what you and I see," Kagome pointed out. "To them, that demon was just a normal-looking human."
"So, basically, I'm not allowed to even fight in this time?!" Inuyasha questioned. "Man, what a royal pain in the balls!"
Kagome couldn't help but feel just a little guilty. She wanted to bring Inuyasha to her time because she thought that everything that happened to Feudal Era was getting to be too much for both of them...but really, she just wanted an excuse to spend time and not have him worry about having to fight anyone. However, seeing this demon appear with two jewel shards was a harsh reminder that even here in the modern era, her problems weren't over. After all, this wasn't the first time she had encountered in her time.
As long as there were still shards out there, not even this era was safe enough.
Soon, the two landed in front of the Higurashi Shrine's steps.
"Okay, we're home," said Inuyasha. "So now what do we do?"
"I need to go and get my bow and arrows," Kagome answered. "I know the matter of that demon isn't over. That's why I had to come back."
"Smart idea," Inuyasha replied as he walked up the steps, pulling off his ball cap and wiping his forehead as he did...but then, his now exposed ears twitched as he heard this odd yet familiar sound: the sound of an engine roaring.
"Inuyasha, do you hear some-" Kagome started as she also began to hear the sound...but as she turned, she let out a horrified gasp. "LOOK OUT!"
Inuyasha turned around, but then, he suddenly found himself getting rammed in the front and he ended up slamming right into the wall of the shrine behind him. With a groan of disorientation, Inuyasha raised his head and saw that he had pinned by a police cruiser...and that same demon from before was at the driver's seat, giving him a wicked grin as he glared at him.
"Inuyasha!" Kagome cried as she got to the top of the stairs, just as the car pulled back, causing Inuyasha to collapse on the ground. Once he did, the demon soon got out of the car...and snickered maliciously as he began to approach Kagome.
"You're mine now, priestess," he hissed.
About time I put this one up. I had a bit of writer's block with this one.
Review, please!
