Later that night, in Kagome's bedroom, as things were finally beginning to quiet down.

"Aaaahhh..." Inuyasha sighed as he flopped onto Kagome's bed, back in his regular clothes and his hands on top of his stomach. "Man, I love your mother's cooking."

"Maybe she should make nikujaga more often," Kagome quipped, wearing her bedclothes. "You ate 4 helpings of the stuff." She soon crawled into bed, herself with Inuyasha scooting over to allow her some space. Once she was in, Inuyasha swathed her in his arms, the sleeves surrounding her like one big blanket, causing her to smile warmly as she sunk into his embrace.

"I'm not smothering you, am I?" asked Inuyasha.

"No," Kagome assured. "This is nice."

Inuyasha nodded as they both began to get comfortable. However, just as Kagome was beginning to nod off...

"...Hey, Kagome."

"Hmm?" Kagome hummed as she looked up at Inuyasha. "What's up?"

"I'm...I'm sorry...if I worried you, today," Inuyasha said, causing her to blink up at him.

"What do you mean?" Kagome asked.

"I'm talking about when those people in the blue clothes came and tried to separate us," Inuyasha said. "You were telling me earlier...that you were afraid that something might happen if I'm not careful. That you didn't wanna lose me."

Kagome cast her eyes off to the side, worrying her bottom lip as she tried to find words to say. That encounter with the police really did scare her, especially when she saw one of them about to handcuffs on Inuyasha.

"...I was scared," Kagome said as she quietly fisted Inuyasha's haori in her hands. "I...I thought they might take you away."

"...Hmph," Inuyasha scoffed as he looked out to the window. "Well...I doubt they could hold me. I'm not like all those weak humans, after all."

Kagome couldn't help giggling a little...but even then, she sighed as she nestled into his chest, hearing it rumble in her ear as he held her.

"...You're still worried, aren't you?" Inuyasha asked.

"Yes," Kagome said. "I'm worried about what might happen to you, regardless of where we are. Inuyasha...you've come to mean so much to me. I know we haven't known each other very long...but the more days I spend with you...I feel safe and happy." She screwed her eyes shut as she buried her face in Inuyasha's chest.

"That's why...the thought of losing you scares me more than anything."

Inuyasha's eyes softened as he kept holding Kagome. Everything she did today; changing his outfit and trying to get him away from the police...she did it all to keep him safe. Even the days before, Kagome brought him here to her house not just because she wanted him to relax, but because she thought that he would be safer here and not have to worry about fighting anyone.

Just as he had been trying to protect Kagome, Kagome was trying to protect Inuyasha in turn.

Without uttering a single word, Inuyasha gently tightened his hold on Kagome, who smiled as she looked up at him.

"...Thank you," she whispered.

"Yeah," Inuyasha replied as they began to cast off into slumber...until...

"Hey...I just realized something," Kagome said. "What are we gonna about the police car that the demon crashed?"

"Oh, right," Inuyasha realized. "I'll deal with that in the morning. Just get some sleep."

The following morning, at Tokyo Police Headquarters...

"Welcome back, Officer Yumi! Are you sure you should be working, though?"

"I'll be fine, Chief. Takes more than a whiplash to take me out from the force."

Officer Yumi Hamada of the Tokyo Police Force sighed as she headed out toward the parking lot where the cars were kept. She looked relatively fine...save for the fact that her neck was now in a brace. She had been in the hospital since last night and the doctor actually told her not to go into work, today, but she insisted on coming back.

After all, she still had to find out where that white-haired young man with the sword ran off to, as well as that other adolescent in the leather jacket...that was abnormally strong and had a rather monstrous appearance when she got a closer look at him.

'That couldn't have really been a demon, could it?' thought Yumi as she approached the back doors. '...No...it couldn't be. Demons don't exist...I'm starting to think that maybe I'm working just a little too hard.'

As she came outside, she gasped in utter shock and horror at the sight before her eyes: there, right in front of her...was her police cruiser, smashed, dented, and crushed almost beyond recognition. The siren was missing and it looked like one of the tires had been punctured by...claw marks...?

"Hey, Yumi!" said one of the male officers as he approached her. "Hey, I hope you haven't seen your..." he trailed off when he noticed her bugged-out eyes and her gaping jaw. "Oh...yeah, you have."

"...Rokusuke?" Yumi asked. "I think I'm gonna take a week off work, after all...maybe two."

Up on the rooftop of a nearby building, Inuyasha smirked before he turned and leaped away, heading back to the Higurashi Shrine.

Yeah, this is a pretty short one, but it's funny. XD
