Sheridan and Luis snuggled together, their daughter wrapped securely in Sheridan's arms.
"Oh, Luis, isn't she just perfect?" Sheridan beamed.
"She certainly is, Sher." Luis smiled at Sheridan and then down at their daughter. "She's already got me wrapped around her little finger—just like her mother does."
"I love you so much, Luis."
"I love you, too, Sheridan," Luis smiled, his eyes glistening. "I wish I could spend the rest of my life like this—just holding you two in my arms."
"This moment couldn't get any more perfect, could it?" Sheridan said.
Luis laughed softly and shook his head. "No, it really couldn't."
"What's so funny?" Sheridan asked.
"Nothing." His eyes twinkling, Luis smiled at her. "I was just thinking that maybe I need to start trusting in the universe."
A soft knock sounded at the door.
Luis and Sheridan looked up.
"We heard you were up for some visitors." Smiling softly, Pilar pushed Martin's wheelchair into the room.
Luis smiled at her, his eyes welling with tears. "For you? Anytime, Mama."
Pilar smiled and squeezed Martin's shoulder. "I'm so glad you made it home in time for the birth of our first grandchild, mi amor."
"I'm glad I did, too," Martin said. "I can't imagine having missed out on this."
Steering Martin's wheelchair over to the bed, Pilar's eyes fell to her granddaughter. "Oh, she's so beautiful."
"Would you like to hold her?" Sheridan asked.
Pilar nodded, her eyes welling with tears as Sheridan handed the baby to her.
Blinking back tears of his own, Martin smiled. "I can't tell you how grateful I am to be here for this."
Luis swallowed a lump in his throat. "We're glad you're here, too, Papa."
"Thank you both for finding me." Martin looked at his son and daughter-in-law. "I want you both to know that I couldn't be prouder of you. Despite everything you both went through growing up, you couldn't have turned out to be finer human beings."
"I couldn't agree with you more, Martin," a soft voice came from the door. "Both of them are really quite special."
"Mother, you're here," Sheridan cried softly.
"Of course I am—I wouldn't be anywhere else." Beaming, Katherine crossed the room to where Martin and Pilar were sitting, gasping as she looked down at her granddaughter. "Oh, she's absolutely stunning."
"Thank you," Luis smiled. "We're pretty fond of her already."
"I do have a question, though," Martin said. "Does this child have a name?"
Luis and Sheridan smiled at each other.
"She does." Luis squeezed Sheridan's hand. "In fact, we're glad you're all here so we can tell you together."
Sheridan brushed one finger over her daughter's forehead and then smiled up at both of the women who had raised her in turns. "We wanted to name her after two people who are very special to us."
"Mama," Luis said, "you're holding Katherine Pilar."
"Oh, mijo, mija . . ." Fresh tears sprang to Pilar's eyes. "I couldn't ask for a better honor."
Katherine swallowed hard, tears welling in her eyes. "Neither could I, Sheridan."
Eve poked her head into Sheridan's hospital room. "We heard a rumor that someone had a baby around here."
Julian clamped his hand down on Mike's shoulder as he, Mike, and Dalla followed Eve in. Smiling at the sight of Sheridan and Luis snuggling their child, he looked at Mike. "Yes, it seems that there have been two additions to the family today."
Sheridan gasped as she looked up at Julian and Mike. "Does that mean . . . ?"
"Yes, it does." Julian smiled and squeezed Mike's shoulder. "You were right all along. Mike is the son Eve and I lost all those years ago."
Tears sprang to Sheridan's eyes. "Oh, wow—I'm so happy for all of you."
"Our reunion wouldn't have happened without you, sister dear." Releasing Mike's shoulder, Julian crossed the room, seated himself next to Sheridan, and took her free hand in his. "Thank you for helping Eve and I find our son—for being such a good sister to me, despite everything that's happened."
Sheridan smiled through her tears. "I'm just so happy you all found each other."
"So am I." Tears welled in Julian's eyes as he glanced down at his niece and then looked back up at his sister and Luis. "And my heartfelt congratulations to you and Luis. You two deserve every happiness in the world—I'm so happy you fought so hard for your love."
Luis squeezed Sheridan and kissed her forehead. "Yeah, well, Sheridan is worth fighting for."
"She always has been," Julian agreed.
Her eyes glistening, Sheridan touched her hand to Julian's. "So have you, Julian."
