"Olivia are you okay?"
Annalise put a folder on the desk and waited for Olivia to lift her head. When she looked up, her eyes were glazed over. Her hands were trembling looking through the folder.
"Do you need to leave early today?"
"I can't. If I miss anymore days, I won't have a job."
"You look like you should be in the hospital."
"I'm going to urgent care after work to get some antibiotics."
"You have an infection?"
"My scar is infected."
"You shouldn't be working."
"The nausea just started again today."
"The infection could be spreading to your organs. You need an ambulance."
"No. I can't leave in the middle of the day."
"Your job or your kids? What is more important to you."
"My kids are my priority."
"They need you to be healthy."
Annalise didn't know what else to say to Olivia. She was her boss, and she didn't want to make her upset. She waited for Olivia to get the documents she needed out of the folder. Olivia put her head down again.
"Olivia?"
She didn't answer. How could she fall asleep that fast? Annalise walked closer to the desk and lifted Olivia's head. She didn't open her eyes.
"Olivia, I'm calling an ambulance."
She didn't open her eyes. Her head was limp in Annalise's hand.
"Stay calm." Annalise said to herself, putting a finger to Olivia's neck. She had a weak pulse. She slowly let go and grabbed the phone on the desk.
Annalise called 911 and followed their instructions. Within minutes, she could hear the ambulance outside of the school. The staff outside of the office gathered around to see who was sick. Olivia was still unconscious when they loaded her onto the stretcher and into the ambulance. A few students followed their teachers outside.
"Mom!" Karen shouted.
"It's okay Karen." Annalise said.
"Mom is sick. Why isn't she better?"
"I'll call your dad." Annalise said.
