I always wondered why Hiccup let himself do so well in training if his goal was to let Astrid win; thus I tried to explain it a bit :)
Entry 76
At least one thing hasn't changed: Astrid still hates me.
Today, I tested out the pressure point theory on the Nadder. As it was charging me, I dropped my weapon (which the dragon immediately noticed) and started scratching. Just as Astrid was about to swing her axe at the Nadder, I found the right spot, and the dragon dropped to the ground. Astrid stared at me in disbelief, before shaking her head slightly and walking away.
I took off too, 1) because I didn't want to have to try and explain that to anybody, and 2) because I realized something.
What am I DOING? I'm trying to get through Dragon Training, not WIN it. But I just couldn't risk Astrid hurting the Nadder… Ugh, this is going very badly… My moral compass is getting in the way, and I didn't even know I HAD one. I thought I could be ruthless, but… I just can't.
I need to clear my mind, but I can't risk visiting Toothless today; Astrid has been keeping an eye on me. Maybe I'll just go get something to eat…
…
Thor, this just keeps getting worse. When I went to get some food at the Great Hall, I was bombarded by nearly every Viking in the building. They were all shouting questions and bits of praise at me, and I couldn't even hear myself think.
I thought I was going to LOVE becoming so accepted. And I'm sure I would… if it weren't for Toothless. But because of him, I have a secret, and all these people pelting me with words is just adding to the stress.
Why is Hiccup doing so well in Training? Surely it couldn't be because he's secretly been spending time with a dragon he wanted to kill and helping it learn to fly again. Yep, he's just suddenly become a Viking, that's all. Definitely has nothing to hide.
Ugh, my head hurts. I don't like keeping this all to myself… But still, it would be even worse if I told someone. Then, Toothless would be dead for sure.
I'm going to go finish the saddle. I'll need to make a couple more adjustments to the tailfin, but Toothless still has that on. Even still, I might as well get the saddle done.
Until next time…
