Seventy-Seven: Plotting for Good
Concerned about their holders, Plagg and Tikki decide to stack the odds in their favor.
"They're finally asleep," Tikki said.
Floating over to where Plagg was lying along the breakfast bar, languidly taking chunks from the wheel of Camembert he'd liberated from the cabinet, the Kwami of Creation gently nuzzled her partner of millennia. "For two humans who profess to be exhausted, they somehow seem able to draw upon some hidden store of energy when the need arises."
Plagg grinned wolfishly. "Funny you should phrase it quite that way, sugar cube."
Tikki rolled her eyes as she snuggled under his arm. "Incorrigible. Now I know where Chat gets it from."
"Actually," Plagg sighed as he hugged Tikki close, "I think the kid is making up for lost time."
"They both are," Tikki agreed. "Honestly, I think she's as keyed up as he is over the presentation he has to give this morning."
"With good reason," Plagg frowned, narrowing his luminescent eyes in the process. "If what I overheard is true, the future of his company is at stake."
"I think it is."
"I can't believe that no-good cousin of his is behind this. His last visit was something of a disaster." Plagg rolled slightly to hug Tikki closer; though he'd never admit to it, he relished every stolen moment they shared together. "I know we're not supposed to intervene in things like this, but we need to do something for the kid." He paused. "I need to do something," Plagg admitted so quietly that Tikki had to strain to hear him.
"I agree," Tikki replied softly.
"You… you do?" Plagg said, his tiny feline eyes widening as he stared at Tikki. "That's… so not usual."
"We align more often than not, kitty," Tikki smiled.
Plagg groaned. "I hate it when you call me that."
"Do you?" Tikki smiled sweetly. "I'd forgotten."
"Hah. Regardless, I'm in."
"I've not told you what my plan is yet!"
"Doesn't matter, sugar cube," he said fondly. "Whatever it is, I know it will be perfect. Just like you."
Tikki smiled. "Such faith," she said. "I may need some of it once you hear what I've got cooking…"
