Chapter 78: Freedom Duels Part 1
Leo remained silent as the security guards lead him deep underground before throwing him into a massive room with the other losers of the tournament.
"Welcome to your new home. Get comfy, because you're never leaving!"
The guards laughed and left him. Picking himself up off the floor, Leo joined the mass of prisoners, among which was a noisily complaining Sylvio.
"There must be a mistake! You can't treat me like this! I demand to be let out!"
"So, its your freedom you want, huh?"
Everyone turned to see lucas Swank making his way towards them.
"Well, in that case, all you have to do is duel your way out. Beat 50 prisoners, and your free to go."
Sylvio grinned at this.
"Alright, I'll accept your challenge!"
Leo, knowing this was his only chance to see Luna again, agreed.
"Excellent! Shrimpy, you're up first."
"Hey, how come the kid gets to duel before I do!"
Sylvio's cries fell on deaf ears as Leo made his way onto the dueling arena.
"Alright, bring it on!"
"Ooh, I like your spirit! But lets see how feisty you are when you see your opponent: Greiger!"
The giant of a man made his way onto the other side of the platform, glancing down at his much younger opponent.
"I saw your duel with your sister. My condolences, but don't think I'll take it easy on you!"
"Same here!"
DUEL!
Greiger: 4000
Leo: 4000
"Age before beauty, Greiger."
"Very well. First, I activate the spell card Star Blast! For every 500 life points I pay, I can reduce the level of one monster in my hand by that amount. I'll pay 500."
Greiger: 3500
"Come on out, Summon Reactor- SK in attack mode! Next, I activate the spell card Ties of the Brethren to pay 2000 life points (3500-1500) in order to bring out my other Reactors from my deck, so come on out Trap Reactor Y FI and Spell Reactor RE in defense mode! I'll end my turn with one card face down. Your move."
Ah man, this is bade! No matter what I do, I'm going to lose life points, and his spell reactor can destroy one of my equip spells per turn! Wait a minute, maybe I can use that to my advantage...
"Alright Greiger, hope you enjoyed that free turn because I'm coming at you! I summon Morphtronic Scopen in attack mode!"
"Don't forget about Summon Reactor's ability! The first time a monster is summoned to your field, you take 800 points of damage!"
Leo shielded himself from the barrage of bullets. All was going according to plan.
"Yeah, well my Scopen has an effect too! Once per turn I can summon a level 4 or lower Morphtronic from my hand, so come on out Morphtronic Boomboxen (1200/400) in attack mode!
Now, my level 3 Scopen tunes with level 4 Boomboxen to Synchro Summon Power Tool Advanced Dragon! And for every non tuner used to summon him, I can add an equip spell from my
deck to my hand, and I choose Lucky Iron Axe, which I'll now equip to-"
"Did you forget about Spell Reactor? The minute you activate a spell card, it gets destroyed and you take 800 points of damage!"
The axe hadn't even touched the dragon before Greiger's monster blew it to bits, along with a chunk of Leo's life points.
Leo: 2400
But despite this, Leo was smiling, leading Greiger to realize something,
"You wanted me to do that!"
"Bingo. See, your Reactors can use their effects once per turn, so I let Lucky Iron Axe take one for the team. And don't forget, when Lucky Iron Axe is destroyed by my opponent's card effect, I can draw one card. Next, I equip Double Tool C&D to my Advanced Dragon, giving him 1000 attack points during my turn (2300-3300). Attack his Summon Reactor, Power Tool!"
"My Summon Reactor's effect activates! If I dealt damage to you this turn through its first effect, I can negate one attack this turn!"
"Sorry Greiger, but when a monster equipped with Double Tool attacks, any effects that belong to or effect its target are negated!"
"What?"
Greiger could only watch hopelessly as his monster was drilled into oblivion.
Greiger: 200
"Well played Leo, but this duel isn't over yet. I activate my face down, Soul Reactor! When one of my Reactor's leaves the field, I can banish my three reactors from either my hand, field or graveyard to summon Flying Fortress Sky Fire!"
Leo gasped in awe as Greiger's ace monster flew onto the field.
"Oh man. I end my turn with one card face down."
"This duel is over, Leo! By discarding one card from my hand, Flying Fortress Sky Fire can destroy one card on your field, so say goodbye to your Dragon!"
A storm of missiles flew out from the massive robot's arsenal, striking Leo's monster in a huge explosion. But when the dust settled, Leo's monster was still there, with the exception of its equip spell.
"Surprises? Power Tool lets me destroy a card equipped to it instead of itself."
"Mighty impressive, Leo, but it won't be enough. I equip my Sky Fire with the equip spell Junk Barrage! Take out his Dragon!"
Once again, a heavy rain of missiles flew towards Leo's monster, except this time they succeeded in destroying it and pushing Leo back.
Leo: 1700
"And don't forget my Junk Barrage! You now take damage equal to half of Power Tool Advanced Dragon's attack points, and that's 1150!"
The remains of Leo's monster cascaded down, forcing Leo to duck to avoid them.
Leo: 550
"You've fought well, Leo, but this duel is over. My Sky Fire can destroy any monster you summon or any card you set and deal you 800 points of damage. No matter what you do,
you can't win!"
"We'll see about that, Greiger. My turn, I draw!"
Perfect, just what I needed! Greiger's not the only one with some fire power.
"I set one card face down."
"Flying Fortress Sky Fire, end this duel!"
"I don't think so! I activate my trap card, Pikeru's Circle of Enchantment! All effect damage this turn is reduced to zero!"
A magic bubble surrounded Leo, shielding him from the heavy gun fire. But when Greiger saw what card Leo had set, he gasped in shock.
"No, it can't be!"
"Oh, it be. And since you destroyed Kozaky's Self Destruct Button, you take 1000 points of damage!"
Greiger remained calm as the explosion took the rest of his life points.
"Well played."
Greiger: 0000
Leo wins!
Greiger met Leo in the middle and shook his hand.
"Good game, Leo. You'll do just fine."
"Thanks, Greiger. Those were some pretty sweet moves."
"Alright you two, enough of the sappy crap! Clear out so we can start the next duel."
Greiger watched Leo disappear into the crowd as the guards led him deeper into the facility.
"Good luck, kid. You're gonna need it."
