I just realized that I forgot this chapter in the story I AM SO SORRY

Unfortunately I really can't slip this chapter in between its rightful spot, so it will serve as a bonus chapter. Hope you understand and thank you so much for pointing out my mistake!

Sonic, Amy, and Penny had decided to go for a walk together on a nearby farm when Eggman had launched a surprise attack on the three.

This time he was using a robot that was shaped like a chicken. Amy and Penny stood behind Sonic, watching in fright while Sonic faced the robot, glaring hard at it. The robot shot a flare at them, and they all yelped.

Penny saw the chicken bot go after Amy, and without thinking of her own safety, the girl pushed the pink female hedgehog away from any danger. Penny felt its beak grab the back of her shirt.

When Sonic opened his eyes, he saw that Penny was no longer with them. "Penny?!" He called, his eyes wide in panic.

"Up there!" Amy yelled, pointing up to the robot.

"Sonic!" Penny shrieked, trying to get out of the robot's grasp.

"Bring her back!" Sonic yelled. Eggman laughed in delight. "If you want her, come and save her!"

Penny felt completely useless. Not only was she in no shape for fighting, but the human girl also had no weapons to attack it with. And Penny was getting dizzy from the heights. The girl heard the fabric of her shirt tear a little as she struggled, and she gasped, knowing what would happen if she moved. Penny stopped, trying not to wriggle around, but it was hard to not move when something was carrying her.

"Penny, just hang on tight!" Sonic yelled out to Penny.

"Sonic, here comes the ring!" Tails called out to the blue hedgehog. Sonic grasped the ring in his hands and sped up as quickly as he could towards the girl. Penny yelped as she felt the vibration of the bird being struck by Sonic.

What they didn't know was that a strange piece of the chip from the bird flew right into Sonic's ear. But he didn't notice. He was too focused on Penny.

Penny felt warm arms wrap around her, securing her to him. Penny opened her eyes up a little bit to see Sonic. "Don't worry, Pen. I gotcha."

Penny smiled warmly at him, clinging to him through the rest of the fall. "My hero." She whispered, and he chuckled a tiny bit. Sonic shielded Penny as they landed in a pile of hay.

Soon, Amy had come to join them, and they relaxed and just watched the hay fly around in the air.

"Isn't this beautiful?" Amy asked us, and Penny smiled at her. "It sure is!" Penny grinned. Amy nodded. "I wish we could stay here for days and just listen to the wind. Won't that be... romantic?" She asked, and Penny just sweat-dropped. Ignoring her, Penny turned to Sonic and smiled at him. "Thank you once again for saving me." The girl smiled but frowned a bit when he didn't answer.

Amy turned to Sonic, wondering if he was listening. He seemed to be digging in his ear. Amy humphed at him. "Are you listening to her?!" She shot at him.

"Say what?" Sonic asked.

"Hooo!" Amy humphed angrily. "You men!" She turned away from him and humphed angrily.

"What's wrong?" Sonic asked, looking thoroughly confused.

Back at home...

Amy and Penny stared up at Sonic as he continued to fiddle with his ear.

"Oh!" Amy growled. "You're IMPOSSIBLE!" She yelled. "You never hear a thing Penny and I have to say!"

"Hey, Amy, Penny, what's all the commotion?" Kat asked as she walked up with Blaze, Chris, Tails, and Silver. Amy turned to them. "Your friend Sonic is acting weird!" She explained.

"What do you mean he's acting weird?" Tails asked, looking up.

"He's off in his little world," Amy complained.

The little group of friends looked up at Sonic. "That's not weird!" Silver said. "That's Sonic!"

"He's worse than ever!" Amy growled. "He hasn't listened to a single word Penny and I've said all day!"

"Well," Chris suggested. "Maybe he has something on his mind!"

"I should've known you wouldn't understand!" Amy growled.

"Amy, please..." Penny tried calming her down. "How about a board game or something..."

"YOU THINK A BOARD GAME'S GOING TO FIX A PROBLEM?!" Amy yelled, and Penny winced.

When Mr. Tanaka pushed a button on his remote, they all heard Sonic scream. Silver and Penny watched with open mouths as he started acting crazy and ran away like crazy.

"He does seem stressed," Chris said.

"He thinks he's stressed?!" Amy growled. "Try being me!"

"That'd be terrible." Chris, Kat, and Penny said in unison. They giggled. But Amy shot the three human kids the most fiercest look she ever gave and stared down hard on them. "WHAT DID YOU SAY?!" She yelled angrily.

Kat chuckled nervously. "The only way to find out what's really going on with Sonic is to follow him in the X Tornado."

"Kat's right," Penny said.

Tails nodded.

...

Sonic had run as fast as he could down the streets, clearly confused about what was going on. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't stop his feet. "I don't get it!" He yelled. "I can't stop my feet!"

Sonic was going so fast, that he had to hop over cars and dodge vehicles. "Sorry!" He called out to each car.

...

"Listen, punk, your car may be cool," Sam scolded a dude who once again thought he could be fast on any highway. "but if you don't wear a seat belt, you're a fool."

That's when Sonic darted right past. "That was Sonic!" Sam yelped in excitement. He turned to the speedster he'd stopped. "Thanks to him, you're not getting a ticket today!" He pushed the man aside, yelling, "Now go get a haircut!" Thinking Sonic wanted a race, Sam hopped into his racing car and sped after the blue hedgehog. "I got you now, Sonic!" He smirked to himself.

Sonic had sped through rows of cars, and Sam had soon found a way to catch up to him. Sam picked up his mike and ordered, "This is S-Team leader to base." He called. "In hot pursuit of a high-speed hedgehog going south on Broad Street, over!"

"I CAN'T STOP!" Sonic yelled over the wind. Up ahead him, the X Tornado flew, and its passengers watched with interest, along with a mix of confusion and worry.

"There's Uncle Sam," Penny mumbled as she saw her uncle speed right after her friend.

"It looks like he's trying to catch up with Sonic!" Chris said.

"I'm going to radio him." Penny took out her mike and called him. "Hey, Uncle Sam! This is Penny!"

"When you're on this frequency, it's "S-Team Leader." Got it?!" He told her sternly. "Besides, I can't chit chat right now, I'm on a mission."

"Sorry," Penny said apologetically. "But I need to talk to you about Sonic!"

"If you're calling to tell me to take it easy on him, forget it," Sam said.

"But he's acting pretty strange today!" Penny protested. "We're worried that there's something really wrong with him!"

"There must be if he thinks he can defeat me!" Hearing laughing over the radio, Penny watched as her uncle sped up after Sonic.

"He acts weirder than Sonic..." Penny muttered, rubbing her head. Chris shook his head, sighing.

Sonic watched in shock as his legs went to super speed mode. "What's going on?!" The hedgehog yelled.

"All right," Sam smirked to himself. He pressed his foot on the peddle, but his eyes widened when the gas tank went empty. "Out of gas!" Sam gasped in shock. When he slowed down, he growled to himself. "That little hedgehog may have outrun me this time, but there's always a next time. I'll get him!"

Sonic shrugged to the audience when he didn't slow down after his speed. He dashed right past a newspaper stand, causing all the papers to fly everywhere. Sonic knew he had to run off the road, so he moved underground. To the underground train, to be exact.

Underground, Sonic had managed to dodge each upcoming train. "I hope there's light at the end of this thing!" Sonic told himself.

Finally, he came up at another underground train entrance and ran away from it.

"There he is again!" Penny said, watching him.

"He's headed for the desert!" Tails said. Amy looked curious. "Why would he go there?" She asked him.

Soon, Sonic zoomed as fast as he could through the desert, and the X Tornado continued to follow him.

"Still running," Amy said.

They watched as he sped up even faster once again.

"Now he's speeding up again. I wonder why...?"

"Amy, take a look! He's digging in his ear again!" Penny pointed down towards him, and the girls watched as Sonic dug fiercely in his ear.

Amy and Penny looked at each other, and a memory of Sonic saving Penny from the robotic bird. They might not have seen it, but something must've flown into his ear when the girls weren't looking.

"Maybe something happened to Sonic when he was battling that robot," Amy said. Penny nodded. "That might be why he's acting this way."

"What could it be, though?" Chris asked the girls.

Penny looked down. "I don't know."

Chris patted her knee reassuringly. "Let's go talk to Grandpa." He said. "He might be able to figure out what's wrong!"

Penny nodded, her expression sad. "I hope so. Because if there's something wrong with Sonic, it's because he saved me." She looked back at Sonic, and she heard Amy mumble, "Please be ok."

They took off.

...

"He doesn't stop, Grandpa!" Penny explained to him as they told Chuck about Sonic's situation. "He just keeps on running!"

"We just have to find out what's wrong with him!" Amy looked up at Chuck with pleading eyes.

"The only way to do that is to examine him." Chuck smiled. "But first we have to catch him. And that's not going to be easy." Chuck thought for a moment, before hitting his fist into his hand. "I think I may know a way." He smiled.

...

Later that night...

Penny was having a hard time sleeping. She wasn't used to going to bed without knowing that Sonic would always be right outside on her balcony railing. She got up from her bed and wandered to the window. She stood outside and allowed the air to soothe her face. Penny looked over at the balcony to her grandfather's workshop, where she saw Tails and Chuck working hard on this trap for Sonic.

Penny looked up at the moon and wondered where Sonic was, and what was wrong with him.

Meanwhile...

Sonic was running as fast as he could, panting to himself. "Almost there, almost there." He mumbled. "Where am I running to, anyway?"

...

Soon, the sun rose, and everyone met in the desert.

"With the help of Tails," Chuck explained. "I have devised a plan that I believe will work. It's quite simple. Step one, we locate Sonic from the X Tornado. Step Two, we launch a specially-designed shaped bubble bomb that will hold him securely and lift him off the ground. And once Sonic is off his feet, we can discover what is causing him to run amok!"

"YEAH!" Everyone cheered.

Soon, Penny watched the X Tornado fly high above Sonic. Amy had the gun in her hand, and Penny waited for Grandpa to give Amy the signal. Sonic looked up and smiled. "I've got company!"

"Target spotted, Chuck." Penny heard Amy say through the mike.

"Roger, stay alert," Chuck said. "Don't let him out of your sight."

"We'll stay on him," Amy said. The X Tornado flew off, and Sonic followed.

"Ready..." Chuck told Amy through the radio. "FIRE!"

At the command, Amy shot the gun, and it hit Sonic. "Direct hit!" Penny cheered, watching a pink bubble pop up from behind him. Sonic yelped in surprise and began floating.

"It really worked!" Amy said, clearly surprised.

Sonic struggled a little but looked back at us when he relaxed. "Hey, look, Penny, guys, I'm flying!" He laughed a bit, but the bubble had flown him high in the air.

"HEY, GET ME DOWN! I'M FLOATING AWAY!" Sonic yelled.

"SONIC!" Penny yelled, reaching after him.

Chucksighed. "Perhaps I used too much helium."

...

Sonic had continued screaming as he flew through the air with the helium bubble still attached to his back. "HELP ME!" He yelled, panic in his voice. "SOMEONE GET THIS THING OFF ME!"

He flew past Knuckles, who was watching with a surprised yet amused expression written on his face. "What now?" He asked.

"HEY, KNUCKLES!" Sonic yelled down at his friend. "HELP ME, HELP ME!"

Knuckles helped, all right, by picking up a pebble and throwing it right at Sonic's bubble. Direct hit once again! The bubble popped and Sonic fell right into the water. But the water didn't stop him, and he zoomed right through the water. Knuckles winced as he got into a fighting stance, but was a little too slow, for Sonic had sped right next to him, leaving a huge trail of water splashing behind him.

Knuckles was seriously startled at this. "What the..." He paused for a moment and looked down at the fish that was flopping around in his arms, and grimaced.

...

"Now what do we do?" Mr. Tanaka asked as they tried to come up with a new plan to catch Sonic.

"Do you think he'll come back?" Cloud asked.

"I'm worried..." Cream whispered. Cheese chaoed in response.

"It's all my fault!" Penny whispered, wrapping her arms around herself. Kat put a comforting hand on the girl's shoulder.

"Too much helium." Grandpa frowned, shaking his head.

Penny looked up to see Knuckles walking up, holding a fish in his arms. "Well, Sonic just tried to run me over!" Knuckles complained.

"Great!" Amy smiled. "Did you stop him?"

Knuckles proudly raised his fist, dropping the fish in the process. "He missed."

"WELL, I'M NOT GOING TO MISS YOU!" Amy growled angrily, pulling out her hammer.

"What's the big deal?" Knuckles asked nervously. "All I did was step aside!"

"It isn't his fault, Amy!" Cream said, trying to calm the furious little fur-ball of pink. Cheese chaoed in agreement.

"Cheese is right," Ella said behind us. "I bet you can come up with a way to help Sonic after you eat a nice lunch," She smiled, holding out a pot in front of them.

Soon, they were all enjoying Ella's hot lunch.

"I bet poor Sonic must be starving by now," Amy said.

"I'm sure he's fine, Amy," Grandpa said, taking another bite of his soup. He looked over at Tails, who was about to take a bite out of his sandwich, when a tumbleweed caged him, taking Tails along with it. Tails whimpered as he rolled around. Cream smiled at the fox. "That game looks like a lot of fun, Tails!" She smiled, and the fox whimpered in response.

That's when Grandpa looked like he had another idea. "THAT'S IT!" He cried in excitement. He soon told us his next plan, and it looked like it was going to work out.

"Knuckles will wait at the top of the hill with a specialty engineered wheel trap. As Sonic approaches, we'll give the signal, and Knuckles will roll the wheel down the hill, trapping Sonic inside. He'll be like a hamster in a cage!"

"YEAH!" They all cheered.

"I hope this works..." Penny muttered.

Sonic had been running for quite a while, wondering when he will stop when he saw a brightly painted red arrow pointing left. Curious, Sonic followed each of the arrows he found.

"All right, Tanaka, he's almost in position," Grandpa told the butler, who nodded in agreement. When Sonic came closer, Mr. Tanaka waved his flags. Knuckles grunted as he pushed the wheel, and Sonic managed to jump on it. They watched as Grandpa pushed a button on the remote, securing Sonic in place.

"It actually works, Grandpa!" Penny smiled happily, relieved to see Sonic again.

"Of course it does." Grandpa smiled at Penny.

Penny watched as Sonic ate lunch while he ran.

"I thought you might be hungry after all that running," Amy told him. Sonic took a bite out of the chili dog and smiled. "Pretty tasty!"

Soon, Penny and the others all watched as Sonic looked like he was going to fall asleep.

"He looks like he's falling asleep!" Kat said, walking up to us with wide eyes.

"That's good," Grandpa told her. "If he falls asleep, he'll have to stop running."

"Maybe I can help!" Amy cried excitedly. "Hey Sonic, want me to tell you a bedtime story?"

"No, thank you, Amy." Sonic groaned tiredly, and Penny giggled.

When Sonic had woken up from his nap, they were curious about how he was still running. Penny looked over at Grandpa. "It looks like Sonic's nap isn't slowing him down at all." Penny pointed out. "He's going even faster!"

"I've never seen anything like it!" Grandpa said, crossing his arms as he studied Sonic. "His energy must be positively boundless."

"Sonic has more power than my food processor," Ella said.

"Sonic, that wheel wasn't built to withstand this intensity," Chuck warned Sonic. Penny watched in horror as she noticed the clamps that were holding the wheel down get hot. Penny looked over at Knuckles and saw his danger. "KNUCKLES! WATCH OUT!" The human girl yelled to Knuckles.

The machine snapped, and the wheel rolled at top speed towards Knuckles. He tried to get out of the way, however... it rolled him flat.

They ran over to Sonic as he continued to dig his way through the ground with the help of the machine. They watched as he moved deeper and deeper.

"RUN!" Chuck yelled in horror when he saw what was coming next.

Water.

Water sprung out of the hole, and everyone ran away screaming. But curiously, it didn't stop Sonic from running.

"Well, that was a washout." Grandpa said, sweat-dropping a little.

...

"So far your plans haven't worked out, haven't they?" Blaze asked Chuck.

"Not quite." Chuck told the cat. "But I'm confident if we keep trying, we'll eventually come up with a plan that will work."

He turned over to Knuckles, who was grunting in pain as Ella put some cream on his back. That wheel got him pretty good.

Chuck thought for a moment, then smiled. "Got it!" Penny looked at him, curiosity in her eyes. "In fact, it's the best plan I thought of all day!" Chuck continued. The others looked at him in curiosity, and he smiled. "We just need a little help from a friend."

The next morning, Speed King arrived at the campsite. Chuck smiled as he looked at his watch. "Right on time." He said.

Sam stopped right in front of the group and came out of his car. "I would've gotten here sooner," He explained, "but I stopped for doughnuts."

"I appreciate you for coming to help us out, Sam," Chuck said.

"You can always count on the Speed King to put the rubber to the road when a friend needs help." Sam shot them a thumbs up.

"Well, then, let me bring you up to the plan." Chuck smiled. "Now, we all know that Sonic has quite a competitive streak, just like you do, Sam."

"It's Speed King, Chuck," Sam informed him.

"All right, sorry. Speed King." He sighed but continued. "The plan is to have Speed King challenge Sonic to a test of speed. But unbeknownst to Sonic, a trap will be set at the end of the finish line. Speed King will get on Sonic's right side in lane 2. Sonic will be forced to race in lane one beside him, and that will lead him straight into our trap. Then Sonic will be out of the running!"

He smiled at the gang. "Now, let's get ready to race. Shall we?"

"YEAH!" They all cheered.

...

Up in the air, Penny sat behind Tails while Amy sat behind Penny. Penny had the mike in her hands. "Stand by, he's almost there." She informed her uncle.

"Roger," Sam said. "I'm ready."

"GO!" Penny yelled, and he took off. Sonic soon sped right next to the Speed King. However, Sonic tripped and he was forced to run behind Sam. Sam smirked. "What's wrong, Sonic?" He asked. "Can't you do better than that?"

Soon, Sam was treating this race like it was a real race. He kept getting in Sonic's way, causing dust to fly in the poor hedgehog's face. "What are you doing?!" Penny yelled through the radio to her uncle. "This isn't a real race!"

"Penny's right!" Amy cried, taking the radio from the girl's hands. "You're supposed to be a decoy!"

"Guess again, sweethearts. He beat me once, it's not going to happen twice."

Amy sighed when he called her a sweetheart, and Penny slapped her face in annoyance.

"They're getting closer to the finish line!" Penny heard her grandpa say. Amy nodded, and she told Sam, "Remember, Speed King, whatever you do keep Sonic on the right lane."

"Right lane?" Sam asked them in confusion. "I thought I was in the right lane!"

"That's right!" Amy said. "Just stay on lane two! Remember! You're number two! Number two!"

"Not me, Sister!" Sam smirked. "I'm number one!" Sam laughed as he sped as fast as he could go into lane one...

...and ended getting himself trapped in the trap that was set for Sonic.

"That didn't work out too well..." Penny muttered as she watched Sonic run through lane two.

"Hey, Chuck!" Tails suddenly called into his radio. "I'm picking up something weird in my energy scopes! Do you see it down there too?"

"Energy scopes?" Penny asked curiously.

"Yes." Chuck said. "I've noticed it myself, Tails. I've recorded the wave patterns. Maybe you can analyze it and figure out what it is. From what I could gather it's some kind of strange force field. It appears to be emanating from that ranch up ahead."

Soon, they made it down to the farm. Down below, Penny could see the robot chicken from before being chased by a cow.

"Ready up there, Tails?" Penny asked.

"Ready when you are, Penny!"

"What are you intending on doing, Penny?" Amy asked the girl curiously.

"Amy, can I borrow your hammer?" Penny asked.

"Sure..." Amy said, and she handed the girl her hammer.

With Penny steadying on the X Tornado's wing, Penny raised Amy's hammer and tried to hit the chicken when he was closer, but the chicken moved out of the way and then zapped an electric wave at the human girl. Penny shrieked as it stunned her.

"PENNY!" Penny heard Sonic yell, and soon the pain went away. The next thing she saw was a piece of chip flying from Sonic's ear. Sonic smashed the bot, and with that final blow, it exploded in the air. When Sonic saw that the bird was through, he dashed into the nearest hay pile.

"SONIC!" Penny cheered, happy that he was all back to normal. Penny dove off the plane wing without thinking about it and landed in the hay next to Sonic. Sonic and Penny popped out of the hay pile, and they shared a hug. "You had me worried!" Penny smiled, burying her face in his shoulder.

Sonic smiled and was about to say something, but started poking through his ear. "Now what's the matter?" Penny asked him worriedly.

"Something's in my ear again..." He mumbled.

Penny realized that he had some hay stuck. The girl moved in and blew the hay out. Sonic smiled at her, saying, "Yeah, that feels much better."

Sonic smiled wider as he laid his head down on the hay and closed his eyes. Penny smiled happily at her friend. "It's great to have you back, Sonic," Penny said, as she nuzzled in the hay beside him.
