Chapter 165
After hearing what Luke had to say about Thexan, Laetitia just walked away from everyone and everything to be alone with her thoughts. She couldn't believe this was happening.
Thexan was going to die?! Arcann was going to kill him?!
She knew Arcann was bad news. He had every reason to hate her, but she didn't think that he would actually be capable of killing his own brother! The one he supposedly tortured her for. The one that he wanted by his side more than anything.
She just walked outside the Base to get some air. She felt like she was completely out of it. She was just getting used to the idea of having Thexan in her life. To depend someone after her dad. To trust someone intimately after her dad betrayed her ... To love someone.
What was she supposed to do now?
Leah suddenly lost all her strength and fell on the ground. She was no longer in control of her emotions and started crying. She couldn't believe that she was crying for a boy, but this wasn't just any boy. It was Thexan. Even if they weren't in love, they were best friends for years! What was she supposed to do without him?
"Hey!" A voice panted from behind.
Leah looked up with her lightsabers in her hands, ready to be activated and slay with tears on her face. She dropped them numbly when she saw it was Thexan. He frowned in alarm and worry when he saw her tears.
"Hey, what happened?" He softly asked in concern.
Leah just broke out crying as she threw her arms around him. She didn't want to lose him. Luke's vision wrecked all the stability that she had built with him.
"Okay, not that I'm not appreciating this sudden and very tight hug! ... But what is this about?" Thexan asked as he let her calm down in his arms.
Leah didn't break the hug and just kept holding him. She was now crying quietly, but was so emotional and wrecked right now.
"Is this about Luke? Is he alright?" He guessed. When she didn't say anything, all he could do was guess.
She took deep breaths to calm down. She needed to, if she was going to tell him what happened. Or rather, what would happen. He, of all people, needed to know. Maybe then, they could find a solution to their future problem.
"Luke ... He had a vision." She slowly managed to say.
"What do you mean? Like a premonition from the future?"
"It was ... about you." She said as her voice was breaking, and the tears weren't stopping.
Thexan blinked in surprise. Luke had a vision about him? How did that happen? But there was something else that was filling his mind. If Laetitia was crying when she heard it, and Luke was in pain when he had it ... then it only meant one thing.
He had seen his ... death.
"In the vision, you ..." Leah tried to say, but Thexan's shout cut her off.
"Look out!"
Before Leah could ask what was going on, or look behind her to see what he saw, Thexan just grabbed her and threw her out of the way. Everything was happening so fast, but Leah could have sworn that she heard a blaster shot.
She quickly got up and looked around her to find Thexan. She did ... but she almost wished she hadn't. She was right about the blaster shot, because Thexan's arm was bleeding. He tried to hide his pain and get up.
"Hey, don't worry. It's not that bad, okay? It just grazed me." He reassured her as he slightly winced in pain.
Leah was paralyzed to do or think about anything. All she could think about was that Thexan almost died, again ... to save her. The vision was coming true.
She just ran quickly to find the shooter.
Thexan was in the Med Bay, sitting on the bed as his wound was being dressed by the med droid.
He was surrendered by a lot of people. Luke, Ahsoka, Mon Mothma and his mother, Senya. Not that he wasn't appreciative that they were there, but he was really hoping to see his girlfriend. They never got to finish their conversation.
But he soon got his wish.
The door opened and Laetitia, Rex and Han walked in. They all looked tired and out of breath. Thexan tried to get up, but his mother stopped him. He needed to rest.
"You can speak just fine when you're lying down." Senya said.
"What happened?" Ahsoka asked.
"Can I have a moment alone with Thexan, please?" Leah said as if she didn't hear Ahsoka.
Everyone exchanged a look together. Her voice left no room for discussion. It was a bit dangerous. What happened between them?
"Sure." She quietly said as she and everyone else left the room.
Once they were alone, Thexan didn't move a muscle. He knew what it was about. She was worried for him. Luke had a vision of him dying and he almost died when he was trying to protect her.
She was scared, and like any Skywalker, she filled that fear with anger.
"You know, I used to think a 'yelling' Laetitia was scary. Now, I'm pretty sure the 'silent' you is way worse." He sarcastically broke the silence.
Leah just gave him a skeptical look to his chuckle. She was in no mood to joke around.
"This isn't funny. You could've died."
"But I didn't. I'm fine. I told you, I'm not going anywhere." He reassured her.
This time, Leah didn't reply with a tired and simple words. She just hit him in the shoulder. Why couldn't he take this seriously?
"Ow! Is this how you say 'thank you'?" Thexan asked as he rubbed his shoulder. She didn't even hit weak.
"Don't do that!" She yelled at him.
"Do what? Save your life?!"
"Yes! Don't save my life if it costs you your life!" Leah cried out.
Thexan didn't say anything. He didn't see that side of her often. Now, he felt bad. He was the one who made her open herself up with the promise that he wasn't going anywhere. Now ...
"I don't want you to save me if it means you die." She quietly begged.
"How do you expect me to promise that? I can't."
"Thexan ..."
"No. That is a bit selfish, don't you think? You expect me to stand by and let you die when I can save you? To live a life without you in it?" He stated quietly in sadness.
"How do you want me to go on without you?"
"How do you want me to go on without you?" She asked him his own question.
"What about me? How do you expect me to live a life that you died for me to have?" She cried out as her voice cracked.
"You say you don't wanna live without me. But how am I supposed to live without you? I mean, do you really want me to be alright after you've sacrificed yourself for me? And just because you don't want to go through the same thing?"
This time, Thexan just shut his mouth. He knew she was being like this because of the vision about his death. But he never thought that she would admit it like that. It was actually ripping his heart to pieces.
"Now that is selfish, don't you think?" She questioned him.
After the sad and heartbreaking conversation she had with Thexan, Laetitia wiped the tears off her face and tried to pull herself together.
This was why she never wanted to be involved with anyone ... To be involved with him. Because with the lives they had, they would lose each other and be broken for the rest of their lives.
She took a deep breath as she entered the Command Center.
"You alright?" Luke whispered to her as he walked to her.
He knew what the 'moment' with Thexan about. He could only imagine how well it went when he saw the tears on her face.
"I'm alright. We'll talk about this later." She smiled to reassure him.
He had to admit, for a woman who just found out that the love of her life would die because of her in the near future, she was ... doing pretty well.
"Well? Could you catch the assassin?" Ahsoka asked to start. They decided not to start without her.
"Oh, I caught him. But he didn't wanna come with us, so I just let him leave." Leah sarcastically replied as she walked closer to them.
"He killed himself as soon as we caught him." Rex explained.
"That bastard was a Changeling. I've worked with him before Leah joined in. He was a nasty son of a bitch, but I can't believe that he tried to kill you guys." Han said.
This wasn't good. They had been in the Base for only 3 years. Now, the Empire, or someone else, knew where they were? They had to leave ... but to where? Where could they possibly go that the Empire couldn't find them?
"So, what you're saying is that we have no idea who he was working for?" Luke asked in frustration.
"That, and if he told anyone else where we are. We didn't find any transmitters or anything other than weapon, but still ..." Leah trailed off.
"We can't risk it." Luke said for her.
She just nodded as she sighed and rubbed her neck. They needed to find a solution fast. Or else, they'd be goners. For all they knew, Darth Vader and Sidious were on their way to them right now.
"How is the Base on Hoth, the, um ... the Echo Base is going? Is it ready to be used?" She asked as she turned to Mon Mothma.
"It's almost ready. But we must wait for a while to build up the scanners." She said.
"But we can't move into a Base with no scanners. That's even riskier than having no Base at all." Leah stated.
"So what do we do?"
Leah sighed. She moaned in pain of not knowing what to do. That was the worst.
"We don't have a choice. We'll stay here until the Hoth Base is ready. Rex, you and the other Rebels take turns for patrols. Ahsoka, you contact our spies in the Empire. I wanna know if they move a droid. We have to see it coming if they're gonna hit us. And Senator, can you contact our allies to make sure if we have enough funding to get things faster in the Hoth Base?" She ordered politely.
Everyone nodded in agreement and understanding. It was the best and only thing they could do. At least, in the moment.
Suddenly, Leah felt so dizzy. Her head was hurting and she felt a bit nauseous. She put her hand on the HoloTable and leaned against it to stop herself from falling down.
"Whoa! Hey, you alright there, sister?" Han asked worriedly as he walked to her and held her by the shoulder.
"Yeah, I'm ... fine. I'm just a bit dizzy." She panted quietly.
"Why don't you go get some rest?" Luke said.
Leah scoffed slightly in decline. Luke gave her a look that made her feel like she didn't have a choice. She had been through enough in one day.
"We've got this, Leah. You go." He demanded.
"If anything happens ..." She tried to warn him, but he finished for her.
"We'll let you know. I promise."
Leah exhaled deeply as she walked out of the Command Center to get some rest.
Done :)
This was chapter 165. Let me know what you thought of it!
I know nothing toooo important happened in this chapter. Originally, there was supposed to be one more scene, but I thought it was too long to add. It's in the next chapter.
Can you guess what is it?
:)
