Chapter 74 Ace Ops
(Location: Altessian Ship Solitus airspace Kingdom of Atlas Remnant)
The group were able to get a good night sleep at the Academy and they actually enjoyed it. Probably because they were that tired after their having a better look at Mantle. Penny wanted to show them around the school but she noticed their expressions, they were that tired. So she decided to save it for later, it was going to be a busy tomorrow because she will also be busy patrolling Mantle. Each of the teams got a dorm with actual bunk bed, one thing Beacon didn't had. RWBY and JNPR shared one and Oscar was surprised he was sharing it as if he was part of the team. Not like he didn't wanted to but for the farm hand it felt wrong to be replacing the team's deceased member. While Cardin stayed with the Crowe siblings in another room.
The gang stood walked the hallway of the Atlas ship as it was being accompanied by a couple of smaller ships. They were being escorted by Ace Ops member Marrow leading them to the conference room to get brief in their first mission for the military. The double doors slid opened as the rest of the Ace Operatives were already present in the room. They weren't wasting time as Clover as activated the hologram table that showing a map of Solitus. The mission could be anything but everyone knew Grimm will be involved. The rest of the Ops left the room since they were already briefed on the mission by their leader.
"All right, gather round" called the leader of the Operatives.
"Our mission is to secure the launch site for the Amity Communication Tower."
The group kept listening of course their first mission has a connection with the Communication Tower that is going to be built on top of the floating Colosseum.
"The designated area is an abandoned Dust Mine. Since it's closure, the Grimm have moved in. The good news is all that untouched dust is still down there, too."
Yep, they were sure expecting Grimm to be in the mission they all saw it coming. But the dust part was something be concerned with. At the same time it was indeed good news for them.
"Science team says they'll need it for the first phase of the launch. Atlas military Huntsmen are already hard at work clearing out the surrounding tundra. But recon has identified a powerful Geist that's managed to evade destruction and take several lives. Also, there's something else there. We still haven't confirm or identify what is but it's no doubt a Grimm. Could be as strong as the Geist it's all the information we have available at the moment. So we must keep our guard up."
Velvet, Laphicet and Jaune stood in thought. A Grimm that could be stronger than the Geist. The Arc remembered the one he, Ruby, Ren, Nora and the young Crowed faced when they were traveling Anima. These creatures aren't to be taken lightly. That unknown Grimm could be a code red or a therion type. Making the mission challenging if they do encounter this unknown creature.
"Going back to the Geist. After we increase our numbers, it was smart enough to retreat into the mine itself, meaning it's old, and extremely dangerous."
Clover has shown an image of the Geist for everyone to see. The Grimm was very different from the one fought at Anima. It's main body was covered in ice it should be obvious considering where they are. The group already knew from Port's Grimm Studies class that the older the creature is, the stronger and smarter it can be. Oobleck has also mentioned Grimm can develop high intelligence level over time. So not all of the dark creatures were all mindless savage beast. The Geist was dangerous and if they do find the unknown creature the mission will get even more dangerous. They will have to be prepare for the worse. The leader of the Ace Ops showed another holographic image on the round table. A 3D diagram of the dust mine.
"The mine was a labyrinth back in the day. There's all sorts of tunnels and chambers the Geist can move between, so if we're gonna kill this thing, we'll have to split up and corner it. General Ironwood says you've seen your fair share of combat. I trust that man with my life, so I'll be trusting you all, too. Are there any questions?"
No one said a word, they very well knew their mission and what they needed to do. It couldn't have been explained any clearer.
"Good. We'll be reaching the mine within the hour, in the meantime, you should change into your new gear."
"New gear?" Ruby blinked.
Everyone was in the same boat. They have no idea what he was talking about. As Clover gave a smile.
"Thank Professor Poledina he has made some new armor for you all. He also forgot to ask for your weapons, wanting to give them an upgrade. But armor is first. The brief cases are in the quarters area with your name on it."
"New clothes, cool" smiled Laphicet.
Oscar stood on his quarter using a scroll that Pietro was kind enough to lend him. He was the only one of the group without a device so it was about time he has one. The farm hand was watching a few broadcasts regarding Mantle, like crime increased, unemployment increasing as well violence on faunus. The teen turned to the bed where the Lamp of Knowledge stood. Ruby gave him the relic so he can keep guard of it. He wasn't coming for the mission due to his still lack of experience which it can considered bullcrap. Still they needed someone to look after the lamp remembering that it can attract Grimm. The doors opened as the farm boy saw Velvet, the doors closed.
"Sorry" he immediately closed off his device.
"First time with a scroll" a small smile spread her features.
"You know where I'm from technology pretty much doesn't exist" he smiled.
"I'm suppose to be changing for the mission but I wouldn't be here for a good reason."
"I'll keep an eye on the lamp so don't worry about it."
"It's something else. I just talked to the General who is keeping me informed with everything that's happening."
Oscar gave a nod there was nothing wrong with keeping her updated of the situation in the kingdom.
"There's a council meeting in four days. James told me he will be telling them everything."
Again he nodded that's what the man has intended to do after he learned of the truth of Salem's immortality. No answer came from Ozpin who has been quiet.
"I'm worried they won't believe him a word. How do you convince a group of people that the Grimm have a leader with a long past history and she shares that history with the man who used to be the headmaster of Beacon Academy? Add the story of the two brothers, the four maidens and four relics that possess great powers along, with the fate of Remnant."
"Pretty impossible to believe. They might even call him crazy and question his mental health…."
"Exactly. I don't think he has a chance telling them, not alone at least."
Hazel eyes widened in shocking knowing what the older Crowe could have in mind.
"No-You can't possibly think-"
"I know I'm asking for too much. I don't want to pressure you in doing something you don't want to do. But I need your help Oscar. All of us do. Accompany James to the meeting and help him to convince the council. I don't think Ozpin would want to talk not after...Anyway you have some of his memories-"
"So you want me to stand in front of all those people and tell them the crazy story?"
"A crazy story that is true. We all agreed in telling Remnant of Salem and we will do it one kingdom at a time. This one, being the first to know. I know you have the heart and courage. You are stronger than you think and I'm not saying that because you're Ozpin's vessel you're so more than that. A farm boy the defied the odds wanting to become a Huntsman and when strength isn't enough, words are. The power of words are stronger than any brute force used."
"I don't know Velvet, I just don't. It's too much. I don't think Ironwood would want me near him not after-"
"He's upset with Ozpin, not you. It's on him if he wants to feel like that towards him. All we can do is give him time. If you can convince him to let you accompany him to the meeting you can help him spread the word to the council. Let them hear you."
The teen stood in thought lowering his gaze. What to do when he was given a very important task.
"I don't want you to think I'm rushing you on your decision. I want you to think about it from what's left until the meeting. You decide and whatever is your answer, I will respect it all of us will. There's no need to feel bad or ashamed."
"Thanks I'll...I'll think about it."
The long haired woman smiled as she took her scroll checking on the time.
"I have to go. Don't want to be late for the mission."
As she left the room Oscar stood quiet staring at his scroll, then the bend, and the lamp.
"You have something to say to me?"
No answer came from the former headmaster and he sighed in return.
A few of the bullhead ships have arrived at the mountain where the mine is located. Each took a different location according to the mission The front had a couple of settlements where the miners will stay for the day. The middle hatch of one of them has opened revealing Team RWBY in their new outfits.
Ruby was wearing a long sleeve black combat shirt with a closed neck line, with a zipper all the way up. On the right side of the abdomen section of the, below the chest was her rose symbol painted in red. A belt with the rose symbol in silver as the buckle carrying plenty of ammo with pouches colored red. A short leather skirt in red with black shorts, with black knee stockings and red combat boots. Red leather gloves holding her scythe Crescent Rose.
The first noticeable thing to Weiss was her hair, that has taken a new turn. Her long ponytail was gone and instead the white haired girl had a pair of buns on each side. As for her outfit it consisted of a dress with short sleeve, colored white with a v-neck and black mesh in said area. A choker in clear blue with her family symbol in the middle in silver. A white belt with a couple of white pouches the mid part of the dress was colored light blue, while the lower part was a mix of navy blue and white. The skirt's length was below the knees but nowhere reaching her feet. Long, pale blue wedge-heel boots with white frill detailing at the top at the front. Finally, she had a pair of long silk gloves colored navy blue. Her weapon Myrtenaster sheathed on her right side.
Blake also had a different hair look tying her long raven hair to a single braid. Similar to Velvet but it wasn't as long as the former therion obviously. Her outfit was a long sleeve black combat shirt with closed neck line, with black fish net all over her mid riff and her arms. Dark gray fingerless glove with lavender on the other side. A dark white belt with pouches in black, black short that reached to her knees with fish net socks and black boots. On the left side of the leg portion on her pants was her symbol in a mix of lavender and white. On her neck she had a lavender scarf wrapped around. Her weapon Gambol Shroud was sheathed on her back.
Yang had yellow shades with orange lens to go along with her new outfit. A bodysuit with yellow in the middle and the rest was black, with a black belt and the buckle had her symbol in yellow along with yellow pouches and black combat boots with yellow on the sides. Black and yellow leather gloves behind her weapon Ember Celica. She seemed to be the most eager to start this mission.

*Let's make it happen, people* spoke Clover on their communicator.
The four girls jumped from the ship readying their landing strategy. Ruby kept shooting until she landed safely, better than her original landing from the initiation exam. Weiss used many glyphs that lead her to the ground. Blake used Gambol Shroud's sickle mode to swing all the way down. Yang fired one shot as she performed a sommersault gracefully.
Weiss frowned when she noticed all of her teammates staring at her. A vein popped on the back of her head getting annoyed at their stares.
"What?"
"…...…...…..."
"What is it!?"
"It's nothing, really nothing!" spoke her partner.
"Nothing's wrong!" followed Yang.
"Blake?" she didn't believe them squat.
The raven haired girl just shrugged her shoulders it only made her more annoyed.
"It's the hair, isn't it?"
"No, that's not-"
"Just say it. You don't like it, I don't look good in it."
"You look nice, it's just…."
"We're not used to seeing you looking like that" replied the brawler.
"It's always been the ponytail on the opposite direction Weiss, or straight pony tail Weiss" followed the silver eyed leader.
"I wanted to try something new" she defended as her cheeks got slightly red.
"And we respect your choice. We don't think you look bad, honest" smiled the red cloak girl.
"I like it" said the cat faunus.
"We all like it!" followed Yang with her smiling sister.
"Then you should have said so in the first place! I swear you guys can be frustrating sometimes." she was blushing from the compliments but anyway, she was pleased.
"Do we have to be the ones to stick to babysitting?" Marrow sounded annoyed.
"Why not? We do it all the time with you" Harriet hide her smirk.
The dog faunus groaned as his eyes suddenly fell on the white haired girl. He felt like giving his honest opinion on her new look.
"I think your hair looks good that way. It makes you look more...attractive."
"…."
The rest of the team stared at the former heiress and the Ace Operative. Marrow cleared his throat while his tail was moving like crazy. He immediately followed his companion not another word was said. Gazing at Weiss she was looking a little timid, very un-Weiss of her as her cheeks were red again. Yang was grinning at the sight. There could be something going on here. This trip to Solitas has gotten even more interesting.
In another part of the mountain the other Atlas ship showed Elm and Vine jumping with Jaune, Ren, Nora and Cardin on board. The three wearing their new outfits.
Jaune was wearing a long sleeve blue leather coat with buttons in the middle colored gray. A gray belt with his symbol as a buckle in gold with long dark gray dress pants with blue and white combat boots and Pyrrha's red sash on his waist. He will always wear it as the memento of his partner. Crocea Mors was sheathed on the right side of his waist. His hair had a small change as he tied a short pony tail due that his hair was starting to grow. Finally, the Arc has chosen to throw out the armor and dressed like any other Huntsman. No longer he was a knight though he admitted this new outfit is pretty cool looking.
Ren has braided his hair to fit with his new outfit. He was now wearing sleeveless turtleneck dark green top, white long sleeves underneath, black half of a jacket/arm guard combination on his right arm with his father's dagger attached it, a single detached long black fingerless glove on his left arm, and black leather boots. It can be considered an upgraded to his previous outfit.
Nora has also done something different with her hair as she cut it slightly a little shorter than usual. Her outfit consist of a long pink and white sleeveless coat with light blue lapels and white collar- belted closed by a black belt with a pouch on the left side, over a black short dress. The front of the coat has two heart shape cutouts near the bottom. On the upper back of her coat is a small pair of decorative metal wings with a magnet in the middle with her weapon Magnhild stick to it. Long detached white sleeves with black fingerless glove, white stockings light blue socks and black boots with silver heels, sole and toe plates. Matching metal bands on her upper arms with her symbol on them alongside silver metal bands around her thighs. Definitely an improvement from her previous outfit.
Finally, Cardin was wearing a brown short sleeve leather vest with a silver belt and many pouches of the same color. Long brown cargo pants with gray boots along with brown armlets. His cross whip was rolled properly on the left side of his belt. His symbol was on his back, colored gray.
The four jumped from the ship doing their own landing strategy. It has been a while since they took their initiation exam and a lot has happened since then. Jaune mentally smiled back then, how things have changed. The Arc unsheathed his sword using his aura to covered his body as he managed to stab the weapon on the ground and he stood holding it, being suspended in the air for a few seconds. Ren used his acrobatics to land safely next to the blond leader. While Nora used the dust from her hammer to land like a bad ass, giving a high excited yell.
Elm was impressed thinking they might be tougher than she thought while Vine didn't seemed to be such. The five went ahead inside of the cave following the Ace Operative members.
The final ship arrived to its destination as Clover jumped off using his fishing rod as the first to land.
The remaining members were still on the ship as they were also wearing their new outfits. Qrow was wearing a black shirt, a thin vest, and a black ascot with a red gem. Over this a black coat that is adorned with golden trimmings and tassels, ending with ebony fur-trims. Black pants embellished with chains on his right thigh. Black gloves with crimson red undersides. His weapon Harbinger was sheathed on his belt.
Laphicet was wearing a light brown closed-jacket with dark blue long pants and brown boots. He had a black belt with white lining and brown fingerless glove. It was more of a formal clothing but the young Crowe likes it. It was comfortable and it was allowing him more mobility which he will need during combat. No need for his belt to have pouches because he doesn't uses dust his artes are more than enough. He still had his pony tail which his hair was growing a little more. A smile spread his features it was hard not to hide his excitement turning to his older sister.
Velvet still kept her long dark hair in a single braid as her new outfit was an improvement from the previous she was wearing. A black combat top with one sleeve that extents to as a long black glove on her left arm where she had her weapon Vertex Rose. The finger tips of the glove were red while the other half of the outfit was had black shorts with a long trench coat that was colored red with a portion of it that was black and a black belt. Long boots that were above the knees with white on the top, black near the foot area and red on the heel and sole section. Her right arm was exposed not having a glove like her left. Velvet actually like this outfit it was comfortable and it felt so light, easy to walk and run.
The four jumped off to joined the Ace Ops leader using their landing strategy which it wasn't that much. This was pretty much nothing compared to what they've been through during the journey. Clover got confirmation that everyone has landed and they have started their investigation in each of the locations they were assigned to. Everything was good to go.
(Music end)
"This is alpha squad. LZ's clear, proceeding on foot. You've all got fancy new scrolls, so don't forget to use 'em. Keep your eyes and ears open. I want an update if you encounter the target. Don't forget that your new armor has a heating system that will help fight the low temperatures. Alpha out."
Velvet, Laphicet checked their new scrolls and very happy that their new outfits had such a great feature like a heating system. It will automatically activate when they were in a low temperature place. It felt like being in front of a warm and cozy fireplace. As for the scrolls, they didn't minded since they got used to their old models but this were good too. It came with an ear piece accessory to communicate with the others that was remotely connected to the device. If they will be working with Ironwood they should be working with the finest tech in Atlas.
"All right, time to head out. Don't want the others to get ahead" spoke the Ace Ops leader.
The young man took the lead as they followed him into the cavern. No need to worry about the others, they'll be fine. Velvet knew them well enough that they can hold their own and having other members of the Ace Operative increase their chances of survival and success. The cave was like a long tunnel with some snow covering it from the sides looking like there was no end, guess it was to be expected. According to the briefing this mine used to belong to the SDC until an accident involving dust lead the company to shut down operations for the time being. They got no further explanation if it was closed down or on hiatus. This was of course one of the many dust mines they have to extract the precious source. With the current situation the company are having their difficulties.
Speaking of the Schnee name, Weiss must be feeling pretty uncomfortable right now. Being in a place that is connected to her family's company. Not to mention that she's no longer the heiress to it. Velvet and Laphicet knew the white haired girl was more than happy not having that title anymore. She didn't needed it and she was better off without it. She was happy with her friends and the way she currently is, they never acknowledged her as the heiress but one of their own. That was completely okay in the girl's book. One thing was unsure if she wanted to visit her family now that she was back in her home. The older Crowe didn't know what to think would Weiss avoid them or face them.
"Gotta say, I'm still not really used to working with other huntsmen on the field" spoke Qrow.
Of course, the guy was still paranoid that everyone will be in trouble if he sticks around. They were in more trouble than he thought and even if he wasn't around. Trouble would be following them considering their mission and journey. The Branwen was sure it will get worse if he was with everyone. Not how worse but he was that sure it will just be misfortune after misfortune.
"But you were on a team before, weren't you?"
"Long time ago. I just found working alone tends to be for the best."
"Well, I think that's a shame."
"More like he doesn't want to be with people because of his semblance" spoke Velvet.
"His semblance?" the leader turned to the Huntsman who only sighed.
"If you're going to complain about working with others might as well bring it" the older Crowe hide her smirk while Laphicet gave a soft chuckle.
"Sounds fair. My semblance is bringing misfortune to others. To put it precise, it's bad luck."
Clover was surprised when suddenly Laphicet screamed as he was about to fall from a from the ground beneath collapsed. His older sister couldn't react on time trying to run after him. But the teen was caught by the Ace Ops leader as he quickly got him out of danger. Qrow mentally sighed, there goes his semblance.
"Laphi, you okay?!"
"I am now. That was a close one, thanks a lot mister-I mean Clover, sir."
"Better watch your step. Who knows how unstable this place is" he smiled at the boy.
"That was quite a fast reaction. I thought the one with the speed semblance is that Harriet operative" the Branwen was impression how he was able to be there at the nick of time.
"Speed has nothing to do with it. It's my semblance at work. It's good fortune."
The Crowe siblings stood shocked for a moment along with Qrow. No way, does he really has that kind of a semblance. So they were traveling with a guy that brings bad luck and another that brings good luck.
"Sorry to hear that. But you don't have to worry letting it get you down for the duration of this mission. You're all safe with me around" he gave them a smile and a thumb up.
"Good fortune, huh?" Velvet gazed at the Branwen who was still at a loss for words.
"Alpha here, gimme an update" he reached for his communicator.
*The connecting ice tunnels seem clear. We should be approaching actual mine any minute now* Vine's voice.
"Understood. Contact me when you reach the mine."
*Roger.*
"Let's get a move on people."
"Good fortune…." Qrow was still trying to come to terms with.
In the ice tunnel Vine and Elm were on the lead as Jaune, Ren, Nora and Cardin were behind them. They were focused keeping their eyes on their surroundings. There should be Grimm somewhere in the mountain, not just the mine. This was their first official mission since arriving to Solitas. Among them, Nora was having a hard time controlling her excitement. It was a mission but with people who are the toughest of the toughest. She saw a glimpse at what they can do back in Mantle and she was looking forward to see more. Specially Elm, the way she handles her hammer and her strength. It's like she was staring at a relative. This mission might give her the chance to get to know her better.
The orange haired girl went in tip toes to get by her side while her two teammates sweat dropped. Same old Nora.
"So, are you looking for a sidekick, I don't mind having you for a role model?"
Vine didn't reacted as Elm chuckled. This girl has some spunk and probably energy to spare. Guess she likes her already.
"Focus on the mission. I want to see you guys in action. Don't disappoint me."
"S-Sure!" she smiled not having a problem with it, she won't mind showing her what she can do.
"Is she always like this?" asked Cardin.
Ren turned to the Winchester taken back. Guess he hasn't traveled long enough to know the Valkyrie.
"My bad for asking" he regretting asking the question feeling stupid.
*Bravo checking in. Hit a bit of a snag. There's been a cave-in in the main entrance. Not sure if its recent or was caused by the original accident. Either way, we'll have to do a little problem solving. Reported Harriet.
*Understood, keep us updated* replied Clover.
Vine stopped checking on his communicator as he gazed at his Ace Ops companion. Something was up as the tall paled man was checking their surroundings. Jaune turned to Ren with a nod as he obeyed kneeling on the ground. He put his ear on the cold ground as he was able to hear something. A faint sound that was slowly getting closer. Whatever it was, it could mean trouble.
"Something's coming. Keep your guard up!"
"We were expecting company, after all" followed Vine.
"All right!" Elm has taken her weapon more than glad.
The rest followed drawing their weapons as they were able to hear the sound. It was definitely coming from below. From the ground came many creatures, Grimm resembling a Centipede. The teens recognized them from Port's Grimm Studies class. A long segmented insect type creature known as the Centinel. Their habitat were cold areas namely, Solitas. They were one of the many group of Grimm that inhabit the cold continent. More of them popped out as they group was more than ready to take them on.
Jaune ordered Ren to fire from afar, while Cardin used his whip to killed two and Nora went for the charge. Elm went for the kill hitting one then she used her semblance, the roots grabbing her legs smacking a couple of one. Vine made his arms grow large hitting a couple as the Arc, the Valkyrie and the Winchester went for the kill joining the tall woman and the other member of the Ace Ops gave his support with his stretched arms. Shortly all of the Centinel were killed as they vanished in smoke. The group kept their guard up in case more of them show up.
*Charlie what happened? What's your status* said Clover.
"We encountered hostiles but nothing to worry about. We disposed off them already" replied Vine.
*Good, we all saw this coming. Stay sharp. There could be more as we head deeper. Alpha out.*
"Not bad. You guys aren't amateurs that's pretty clear" Elm smiled at the four.
"Does that mean you'll take me as your side kick?" asked the eager Nora.
"No."
She face faulted while the boys shook their heads.
Weiss wasn't comfortable one bit. Not because of the cold because her new outfit was providing her heat so body temperature was all right, able to withstand the low temperature of the cave. It was the fact that this mine used to belong her father's company. The sight of empty dust containers outside and other packages was enough to bothered her. And the SDC initials in all of them just made her feel like she wanted to leave before the mission officially started. Imagining the workers and their harsh labor hours, or the lack of protection when handling potent dust. This didn't brought her or any kind of happy memory at all.
Blake was feeling worse as they stood in a part of the cavern. The destroyed mine equipment, the carts, the dust containers she knew exactly where they were. It was no coincidence that fate will lead her here. This has to be the mine where Ilia's parents died. The explosion accident that took their lives and many more lives. What lead the chameleon faunus to hate humans and made her chose the path to join the White Fang. She would have been influenced by Adam and might have end up like him. But thanks to her and Sun, she was able to turned her around and set her on the right path. She didn't wanted to stay here any longer than they have to. Turning to the white haired girl she wasn't happy in the least.
Harriet and Marrow went a little ahead to check out what was blocking their way. Ruby gazed around noticing her teammates weren't feeling well being here. At least Yang was looking like her usual self.
"I just realized where we are. This mine was closed after an explosion."
"I remember this disaster, or rather, I remember how furious it made my father" said Weiss.
"I wish I could take back the years of pain my family has caused the faunus. And all of my complacency in it."
"It wasn't your fault, you weren't responsible for what happened. Just because you're a Schnee doesn't make you part of the problem" smiled the cat faunus.
"I don't want the past to bother me anymore. I wanted to be a Huntress as a way to guide our family's legacy away from what they've done to the faunus by the means of the company. For many, the SDC is a very successful business where anyone can get the opportunity of their dreams to work for the company. For faunus, the worse prison they can get themselves into. Some would consider it worse than any punishment imaginable."
"This society is set up for faunus to be at the bottom, and humans are willing participants. They benefit from doing nothing to help us. But there are still those who actively abuse us" said Marrow joining the conversation.
"If it makes you feel better, I don't think you're to blame. For anything that happens with your family's company. I'm sure if you had a chance to put a stop to it you would have done it. I thought the opinion of another faunus will make you feel better" he smiled at her.
"Thank you...It does make me feel a little better" she smiled back.
There was a short silence as both former Schnee heiress and dog faunus were staring at each other. It was hard to keep a smile when it was starting to get awkward. The others noticed how the atmosphere has suddenly changed. Yang was the only one to react as a smirk spread her features. Best time to tease her white haired teammate. But it was broken by Marrow clearing his throat breaking the silence.
"Anyway, I didn't come over here looking to solve systemic societal issues. Harriet found a gap a the rubble we think one of you could fit through with a knack. For seeing in the dark? And just you know not all faunus can see in the dark. I don't know why they would say we all have that ability. Not me."
"Guess I'm up. I'll do it" the raven haired girl gave a nod.
The faunus member of Team RWBY went to the rubble, heading to the gap where Harriet pointed. She kept her communicator expecting they will be contacting her. Her eyes were on the inside, nothing out of the ordinary.
*All right Blake, take a look around.*
The faunus changed Gambol Shroud to gun mode.
*Is there any dust in the immediate area?*
"Mine carts...debris...no dust, though."
*Great, then it should be safe to blast our way through.*
"Okay, heading back."
Something has suddenly lunged at her. A Grimm as she quickly used her semblance and her clone got hit by the sudden attack. She fired a couple of shots taking a better look at it. A Geist, could it be the one they've been searching. The current target of the mission. Behind the cat faunus the rubble was destroyed as Harriet arrived with everyone. They spotted the creature as they opened fire. Knowing it was at a disadvantage it ran off.
"Quick! Don't let it get away!" said Yang.
They didn't got the chance to go after it as a Centinel came from the ground. The brawler punched and fired making contact as it made a shriek that made many others to come out. There was quite the amount of them. They knew this was nothing but a distraction. Keeping them busy while the Geist will get away to safety. The four girls charged attacking them with all kinds of combination while Marrow and Harriet joined as he fired Fetch then changing it to boomerang throwing it. The dark skinned woman used her semblance fast charging at the centipede Grimm punching them hard enough until they dissolved into black smoke. They managed to beat them all as the female Ace Ops member reached for her comm.
"This is Bravo, we found the target, but it fled deeper into the mine. Engaging Centinels."
Clover's team has already encountered Grimm as they venture their path of the cavern. More Centinels like everyone else and they weren't much of a challenge. The leader of the Ace Ops was impressed with their performance. He knew someone like Qrow would be experienced and someone who can handle himself well but Velvet and Laphicet Crowe. From what Ironwood told him, Velvet was the youngest teacher in Beacon and the one to be titled" Legendary Huntress" by reputation. Looks like it was no joke after all, she was truly strong and a ruthless fighter. Her younger brother has also proven to be quite formidable. The Centinels were all eliminated by their combine strength and teamwork.
Then he got Harriet's communication that they have already spotted the target this soon in the exploration. He ordered everyone to pick up the pace that could be the reason why they got attacked by the Centinels. Since the Geist was old and smart it could have ordered them to keep them busy so it can make it's escape. But that couldn't be it's full plan, it was up to something. It could be planning to prepare to fight them while the Centinels were buying the creature time to prepare. Either way, they couldn't waste any more time and find it before things get complicated. And they got lucky or was probably Qrow's semblance as they ran to the Geist that wasn't planning on stopping. They opened fire while Laphicet cast fire ball.
"Keep firing! Don't let it get away!"
The leader reached for his comm.
"All squads head towards our position!"
The phantom type Grimm evaded the fire as it went to possessed some nearby rubble and ice laying around. Just their luck, when they thought it wasn't going to be this annoying fighting it. The creature has turned into a rock and ice golem. Velvet stared at it. Ruby, her brother along with JNR fought this thing when they were traveling Anima. Hard to tell if that one was old and intelligent but it was good that she was finally facing one face to face. The older told her brother and Qrow to cover her as she charged at it. If she wanted to hit it hard, she will have to go all out. Destroying it's armor was the priority and once it leaves showing its true form, finish it off.
The Geist didn't gave her a chance as it went for the run again. This time, its movements were slower from its phantom form. As they went on pursuit more Centinels appeared from the ground, dozens of them. It was clear their purpose was to give the golem the time it needs to get away. The Centipede type Grimm were being so fierce attacking the group as they were to blocked and counter, breaking through them. By the time they managed to take them all out, the Geist was already gone. They didn't stopped still going after the large creature. As they went further they saw a big hole on the ground. Pretty obvious it has gone underground.
"It really is smart. Telling the Centinels to keep us busy so it can make its escape" said Qrow.
"This one is dangerous, we already knew. We have to assume the worse that is planning something" Clover reached for his comm.
"Target escaped, last seen headed east."
"What's wrong Velvet?" Laphicet turned to his sister who was in deep thought.
"It's nothing. Just a random thought that can't be proven true."
"Let's keep going. We're all meeting in the same spot" said the leader of the Ace Spots.
They heard gasp coming from the Branwen with wide eyes staring behind them. Centinels, lots and lots of Centinels, a whole horde of them. Clover was the first to act telling them to make a run for it. There were just too many of the insect types to fight. They jumped the hole made by the Geist as they ran further into the tunnel. Just one glance to see such a horde not stopping, they were all after them. Was it a sign that things were going to get worse.
"Looks like there's going to be trouble to meet up with the others" thought Velvet.
"Charlie, Bravo. We have taken a detour. Regroup and see if you can catch the target at the heart of the mine!"
"Looks like our plans to catch up will have to be put on hold!" said Qrow.
Charlie team resumed their run after fighting another group of Centinels. There seemed to be an entrance that will lead them to the end of the tunnel as they arrived. A large opened area with plenty of mine carts and machines along with quite the handful of dust crystals and dust powder. The place had a strong scent of dust as they were able to smell it. This has to be the middle of the mine where all the excavating is done. They stood on the upper part where they spotted the other team lead by Harriet and Marrow.
"Guys!" called Ruby.
"Everyone use caution. This room is highly active with dust energy. Triggering it could ruin the launch site."
*And vaporize us. How is that always second with you?* said Marrow from the comm.
"In other words, we can't use dust fire without causing an explosion" replied Jaune.
"That sucks" followed Nora.
"Part of our mission is to secure all of the dust. We can't destroy it" said Ren.
"Orders are orders" followed Cardin.
"Doesn't seem like the target is here" said Nora.
A tremor caught everyone's attention. The loud sound was coming from above as they saw a large chunk of ice moving. It kept moving revealing the golem Geist mostly covered in ice and dust crystals. The sight wasn't good for both teams. Once more the Grimm was showing it's high intelligence with wanting them here. The one place where dust levels were off the chart and any kind of usage from any type will be lethal. The giant jell off as it landed landed in front of Team RWBY, Harriet and Marrow creating a big dust cloud.
"It add dust to it's body…." trailed off the red cloak girl.
"Now we don't have a choice but to fight without the usage of dust" said Weiss.
Elm, Vine, Jaune, Ren, Nora and Cardin arrived regrouping with the rest. They were more than ready to fight.
"Still no word from Alpha team" said Marrow.
"This is Bravo we have reached the heart of the mine and engage the target over!" called Harriet to her comm.
*This is Alpha. We're having a bit of a...complication and it might takes us a little longer to regroup* spoke Clover.
"Target has dust crystals on it's body and where we are is filled with it forbidding us from using dust attacks."
*Engage it without dust. Try to hold on until we get there. Do not destroy any dust I repeat, do not destroy any of the dust!*
"Roger."
Clover, Qrow, Velvet and Laphicet were still running from the horde of Centinels. They were sill following into the depths of the mine. The older Crowe and the Branwen fired in an attempt to slow them down but it wasn't working. There were just too many of the centipede creatures. They thought there was no end to this tunnel until they reached a dead end. It was a round area with a big piece of ice and dust crystals all over it. They group stopped until all of the Centinels have surrounded them in large numbers. No choice now but to fight them no matter if the odds were against them. The four have readied their weapons not like they haven't been in worse situations before. With no warning, they have charged from all directions.
Qrow changed Harbinger to scythe mode better to have the weapon that he has mastered the most,. He sliced through so many while punching a few and even throwing one. Clover used fishing rod as a sword, the long part is very sharp able to cut through the centipede Grimm. Velvet and Laphicet cut through them while watching each other's backs their moves, as if they were synced. Guess it was to expect from the siblings that have been fighting together for so long. They kept on fighting as they managed to avoid the creature's attacks, their bites and charges. Suddenly, all of them stopped on their tracks. They have regrouped keeping their distance as the four stood clueless of their actions.
"Why did they stopped?" asked the young Crowe.
"Something's not right" followed the Branwen.
"Yeah. Got a bad feeling" replied the older Crowe.
From the ground came a new creature as it's long body was rolling. It was similar to a Boarbatusk rolling attack. The group dodged it as it arrived regrouping with the horde of Centinels. The newcomer seemed like a Centinel but it wasn't. It was bigger, larger and it's red eyes glowed a darker red. Velvet's eyes widened at the sight of this Grimm she seen it before. She has fought it before with her companions, at the Baird Marsh. Another code red type and things were starting to make sense when it comes to the clever Geist.
"That Centinel seems to be the one in charge of this group" said Clover.
"More like the ruler of this place. I was thinking that maybe the Geist and the Centinels were probably taking orders from another Grimm, stronger than all of them. I was right. This thing is a code red one called Millionaire" said the former therion.
"I guess that will make sense because it's stronger than the normal Grimm" followed Laphicet.
"Guess we won't be joining the others on time after all" said Qrow.
"The others will be fine. This is the true target" Velvet readied her weapon.
"Let's be careful. This area has dust, no dust attacks for this fight" replied the leader of the Ace Ops.
(Music: "A formidable foe stands in the way" from the Tales of Berseria original soundtrack)
Because the code red type Grimm wasn't alone, it will make this fight a whole lot harder. The Centinels around made their move as they were taking orders from the big one like it was their commander. It was a dirty move that it was hiding behind a shield of the Centipede creatures as they all went for the attack. And obviously the one in charge wasn't going to play fair as it spit acid at the group managing to avoid it. A dirty tactic that lead them to defend against the horde over their leader. Looks like they will have to pass through them before getting to the big one. Keeping their strategy of sticking close, they teamed up with Qrow and Clover and the Crowe siblings. It wasn't easy when Millionaire kept on spitting acid.
Velvet glared at the big Centipede creature. Bastard wasn't planning on stepping in unless all of its minions are taken care of. With this place having a lot of dust she couldn't fire Vertex Rose or even use her break artes leaving the older Crowe with using mystique artes as well as her martial and hidden artes. The original Millionaire's weakness was hidden artes, guess she will have to rely more on them. Any attack that triggers the dust might cause an explosion, killing them. Too much dust was too deadly and their mission was to secure it, not destroy it. The long haired woman jumped as high as she could heading straight to the code red. Laphicet called to the other two to give his sister time as they will be dealing with the rest.
Millionaire went for a bite as Velvet blocked using her weapon and went for a counter with a kick. The creature tried to tackle with it's long body but she jumped getting behind it, performing a barrage of attacks. They connected but it was hurting it that much thanks to its white armor and even the original code red it's armor is thick enough to sustain strong blows. Artes however, that was another story. She kept attacking it while hitting the head making the Grimm give a shriek that reflected annoyance. At least she can still use her break soul, she unleashed her large claw hitting it. Now she was hurting it as she kept holding on the Centipede's back like she was riding a wild stallion.
The other three kept their attention on fighting the Centinels but it was hard to do so. At least, that was the case for Clover. The leader of the Ace Ops was shocked at the big inhuman claw that the older Crowe has released and the way it was taking on the big Centipede. It has to be the most bad ass thing he has ever seen. It's a shame Elm was missing this or she would be going crazy like the fan girl that she is when it comes to the long haired Huntress. Laphicet noticed the difference as soon as they started fighting the insect creatures. The Centinels seemed to be stronger but they will get the upper hand beating them. Maybe it was the working of Qrow's semblance and Clover's was countering it.
With the Branwen around, bad things are bound to happen. But with the Ace Ops leader, it's the opposite. So bad and good things will happen or the good will overshadow the bad ones. Forget it, thinking about it was too confusing. The younger Crowe cut through another with his Empyrean saber. The three were able to decreased their number leaving a few remaining. Now the fight has turned to their favor as their chances of winning have been increased. Velvet kept beating the crap of the Millionaire until it finally had enough activating it's break soul arte that goes by the same name. The fast rolling attack made the former daemon to jumped back and her eyes widened as it's body was covered fire. That was also part of it's break soul and everyone else gasped.
"Get back! Take cover!" shouted Qrow.
The contact of the fire and the dust in the air gave the reaction they were expecting. As there was big explosion that shook the entire mine. The chunk of ice was destroyed as Velvet took her brother's hand unable to see. They were falling as the destruction was enough to take the whole place. Doing her best to shield Laphicet from harm she hit something soft and dirty, surprised that it wasn't the solid ground. As the older Crowe realized they were on a mountain of dust. Gazing around, looks like this is where the mining will take place seeing the many carts, equipment and of course dust. Turning to see Qrow and Clover weren't that far and both were all right. And looks like they weren't the only ones present.
The rest of the Ace Ops and the group were there along with the possessed Geist. Needless to say they were all shocked seeing them dropping by. Looking above the room they were fighting the Millionaire was the upper floor of the mine. So far the others were doing good as they were fighting the golem without the need of the dust feature of their weapons. As they have decided to remove the dust crystals on the creature's solid body. No time for a cheesy reunion as they got back to business. The four that were dealing with the Centipede Grimm were looking for it only the Centinels were visible. The code red was on the far end still up and with it another horde of insects.
"We're removing or cutting the dust crystals from its body to prevent major damage" reported Vine to his leader.
"Keep going, Qrow and I will handle the Centinels. Velvet, think you and your brother can handle the big one?"
"We will if Jaune joins us" she nodded not arguing with having the Arc giving them a hand.
"Right. On my way!" the blond didn't hesitated running their way.
"Geez, dump us for your girlfriend" smirked Nora.
The blond leader ignored her heading for the siblings. Team RWBY with Ren, the Valkyrie and the Winchester were still doing their best, dodging the golem's attacks going after the dust crystals. Harriet, Marrow, Elm and Vine were helping them. Once the dust crystals are removed it will be easier to fight the possessed Geist. Marrow made things easy using his semblance to stop time on the enemy. Though its a very handy semblance it has a time limit of ten seconds and also the dog faunus can do it around twice. Qrow and Clover were busy wiping out the Centinels along with the big group the code red Grimm has brought.
Jaune was well aware he couldn't use artes. If there too flashy it will cause another explosion like the one from earlier. Worse case scenario they might cause a cave in bring the whole mine and them getting buried alive. Velvet glared at Millionaire, they couldn't let it use the break soul again or there will be another disaster and this time it might be worse than the last one. She went to hit it harder releasing her claw while Laphicet was slashing through non-armor places and the Arc was aiding him. It was trying to tackle them while it was about to spit acid only to have it's mouth shut by the former therion. The trio were doing the best to hurt it without the need to use stronger artes. Which it was difficult considering the Centipede's Grimm thick armor.
"Velvet! You and Laphi attack it where there's no armor. I'll attack it from behind and make sure its attention is on me!"
The long haired woman nodded at her boyfriend's tactic. The problem with hitting Millionaire in the stomach area, the creature couldn't stand still. The code red type has proven to stubborn and annoying. Jaune did his best attacking the creature with his sword and gauntlet dagger. His attacks were fast and fierce with the purpose that the code red Grimm will be on its radar to attack the most. While by now, the Harriet and Vine chose to help their leader and Qrow with the Centinels. They have seen enough that those kids can handle themselves and they were doing a good job removing the remaining crystals on golem Geist. Elm and Marrow were also giving them a hand.
Jaune hit the Centipede Grimm harder using his level one mystique arte. Since it wasn't flashy like his other two, Arc Revolution would cause critical damage. Velvet followed using Lethal Pain while Laphicet made sure to hit vulnerable spots of Millionaire where there was no armor. The Arc was on its back the same way as the older Crowe earlier, not giving it a chance to attack. It seemed the two mystique artes has hurt it and this might lead of not attempting to use its break soul. It was getting overpowered by the three while it was the same for the Geist against RWBY two members of JNPR and two of the Ace Ops. The Centinels have decreased a lot after Harriet and Vine joined their leader and Qrow.
"Let's finish it off!" said the older Crowe.
The Crowe siblings along with the Arc attacked the large Centipede code red Grimm. It got sent in the air, then back at the ground by the blond leader, followed by the siblings. Another unison attack that sent the creature flying towards the others while, the Geist was done. Yang and Nora gave it one last power hit that shattered it's rock body allowing revealing the phantom type. Velvet took her chance as she charged stabbing both Millionaire and the Geist going for her second mystique arte. Her eyes turned red activating some of her malevolence form as she used Annihilating Crash. Both of the Grimm were sent flying at high speed, destroying a wall from the sheer force leaving a big hole. Eventually the two were defeated as they turned to smoke.
(Music end)
Team RWBY, JNR, Cardin and Qrow were already used to their teacher's brute strength and abilities. But not the Ace Ops, all of them were in awe after seeing what the older Crowe can do. To think she didn't used her vicious artes just her strongest ones that wouldn't risk their lives from bringing down the mine with them. As expected, Elm was the first to react from the sight.
"Did you see THAT!?" the tall woman was shaking Harriet making the dark skinned woman dizzy
"Did you see THAT!?" now she was shaking Vine.
"That is the most amazing thing I have ever seen!" she resumed as she went straight to the long hair woman.
"NO! Don't shake me!" the older Crowe went behind her brother and boyfriend who contained their laughter.
"Okay Elm that's enough. You can fan girl later" said Marrow feeling sorry for Velvet.
"Glad to know we manage to stopped them without triggering any of the dust" smiled Ruby.
"Atlas Control, this is Clover. Mission Accomplished."
By the time they were leaving the mine the sun was starting to set. They were able to see a group of security vans heading where they were. The military with the personnel that will extracting all of the dust discovered. Now that they were able to cleared out all of the Grimm inside. Hostiles neutralized, target neutralized and the special cargo was safely recovered. It was indeed a successful mission. For the group it wasn't that hard of a mission specially when they had plenty of help. They won't complain though. Their eyes fell on the Ace Ops.
They five members have proven they are truly the elite. The best of the best Atlas has to offer. Vine can stretch his arms like they were made of rubber and though he didn't used his weapon during this mission he was using when they first met him during the Sabyr attack on Mantle. Elm can root her feet to hold herself still enable to handle heavy weaponry without feeling the strong recoil making her the heavy hitter of the team. It also had it's uses. Marrow can freeze time for a short period of time and RWBY were able to know he can only do it twice due that it requires a lot of aura and the freeze will only last for ten seconds. Harriet can run fast and pack a punch with her weapon making her the fast attacker.
As for Clover, the team leader revealed his semblance if good fortune which is the opposite to Qrow's. The Branwen was still shocked that he was so lucky to have something like it while he gets the bad one. The Ace Ops have also taken a glance at the teens not just RWBY, but the members of JNR and Cardin Winchester. They weren't rookies it was that clear. They're experienced and talented, Huntsman material all right. And of course Velvet and Laphicet Crowe who has gotten the attention of the five. Yet they haven't seen what the siblings can truly do or Jaune Arc for the matter. Nevertheless, they were impressed with their performance having an idea what they can do on the field.
"I expected as much from the Huntsmen of Beacon. You all did better than I thought" smiled Clover.
"And Huntresses" added Nora.
"I admit, you guys sure blew my expectations" followed Elm.
"I had a feeling you guys weren't going to disappoint" Marrow grabbed his long tail from wagging too much guess he was that happy for some reason.
"I agreed. Your performance was admirable. We will be counting on you in future missions" said Vine.
"Not to mention Velvet and her brother were pretty good" replied Harriet.
"I guess we have come a long way since we started. But most importantly we're strong because we're together. That's what having friends is all about" spoke Ruby.
"Friends?" Harriet didn't sounded happy are they for real.
"Ha ha, this isn't the schoolyard, kid" said Elm.
"But, I mean when you go through so much with someone it kind of changes things, doesn't it?" said Yang.
"We got along well enough, sure. I count on them to keep me alive. They do the same. But that's the job. We don't confuse the two" replied the dark skinned woman.
They stood in thought not believing what they just heard. They saw them working together but they don't see each other close to be friends. They only keep a professional relationship that was it. Velvet gazed at them and clearly they were bothered by Harriet's answer. This is where the difference between Atlas and Beacon comes. Atlas is more on the professional level and morals, to always follow orders and stay true to the mission. It wasn't like that in their school. Ozpin wanted the members of the team to develop a relationship as if they were close not just the four man team. But with partners.
"Being friends is what has kept them alive to this day. It's why they were able to hold on through all kinds of dangers. Being together is what makes them strong. There's nothing wrong with caring for each other on a personal level. They would have never survived Beacon, Haven and Argus on their own" spoke the older Crowe.
"The power of friendship. It sounds too corny" Harriet shook her head.
"Maybe but no matter how strong any of you are. I doubt you would have survive what they've been through. Not on your own anyway."
The mohawk woman kept staring at the long haired woman.
"All of them are close friends to the point that they can be seem as family. Corny, I know but it's effective. You saw them in action, didn't you?"
"Tch, getting too emotional attached goes against rules of conduct. You follow orders and do the job plain and simple. It's not rocket science where your loyalty lies at the end of the day."
"As Huntsmen and Huntress they have a duty to protect everyone in Remnant. They know it well. It's not just Atlas and Mantle like you."
Harriet didn't know why she was getting angry at the older Crowe. Her words felt like sharp knives stabbing her. Maybe it was her pride as an elite soldier of Atlas.
"By the way, you left out teamwork. You don't get too close we get it but teamwork is essential otherwise you can't count on them to keep you alive or them counting on you to keep them alive."
The short member of the Ace Ops tightened her fists why did she wanted to hit Velvet. Marrow was ready to step in and break them apart if it comes to it. The same with Jaune and Laphicet a brawl between their allies was the last thing. The rest, it was hard not to smirk or grin at their teacher's words. Elm decided to stay quiet no way she was getting involved in this. It was enough seeing Harrier's face to back off. Boy she looked like she was ready to charge at the former therion and punch her. She was a fan of Velvet but she wouldn't be crazy enough to get between her and her comrade. How did it all go from normal to tension rising in a second.
"Velvet is that really necessary?" her brother got concerned.
"I haven't said anything wrong. It's okay to keep a professional relationship with your teammates. But not everyone will think like them. If I offended you, I'm sorry."
"You could have said that in the first place" Laphicet sweat dropped.
Harriet didn't replied walking off maybe she was letting her temper get the best of her. The rest of the Ace Ops just went with it knowing how she can get sometimes. Nobody would like to remind them of something so obvious and fundamental they learned when attending Atlas Academy. Everyone else sighed or felt relief that it didn't turned into an argument or worse.
Clover was the only one who didn't listened to the lecture from the former teacher. His attention were on the security vans that arrived. Many people wearing protective gear for the body left the vehicles, carrying many metal cases. They were here to extract all of the dust from the mine. There also guards accompanying for their safety just in case any Grimm were still alive. Weiss recognized the gear they were wearing. It was for protection while taking the dust. Pure concentrated dust is bad for your skin, it can be lethal when mining it leading to health problems. The faunus miners of the SDC wear them all the time. But after what she saw at Mantle, those bodies and the ambulances.
Ironwood was already out of one of the vehicles speaking on his scroll. A few guards were with him. Better to give him their report while he was here. The leader of the Ace Ops was already talking to the General was there something happening. They just did their first mission, were there more already. If that's the case this isn't going to end they'll be busy every day. They had a feeling it was going to be that way from now on.
"Can I get the team leaders and their teacher over here? There's something I'd like to discuss with you. You too Qrow."
Jaune, Ruby, Velvet and the Branwen walked towards the General. They thought it has to be another mission or about the deal that was made to help Mantle. The General was talking to Clover as the leader nodded leaving.
"New problems in Mantle?" asked the scythe master.
"More of the same, unfortunately. There's been a series of murders in the past week. I don't know who, we have no leads. But it's been targeting Mantle citizens both human and faunus."
This shocked the four, not exactly the news they were expecting to hear.
"It has the people on edge and uncomfortable, making it hard for anyone who lives there."
"More to the explanation why they're panicking adding to Grimm attacks" spoke Velvet.
"It's been happening for a week. And you still have no leads?" it didn't suited well with Qrow not with all of the security they saw in the city.
"Probably more than a week but yes. Surveillance hasn't caught anything yet. No suspicious activity as of late. It bothers me. Whoever is responsible is very cautious and cunning."
"Worried that the people of Mantle will hold you responsible?" asked the older Crowe.
She was bringing a valid point. With everything Ironwood has done since they arrived. The people isn't finding him trusting. There's already enough fear and hate as it is. And those factors weren't benefit in the lest. Not with the constant Grimm attacks.
"I'm not concern for my public image. These murders are causing unrest for the people and it's definitely not helping with the current situation. It must be addressed at once."
"But without a lead…." started Jaune.
"So far all victims have been killed by the same weapon. The wounds were made by dust rounds from a M1A rifle."
Ruby stood in thought. Reading so many weapon magazines allowed her to memorize so many of them. Including all models and features so she was familiar with the M1A model. It's a standard type where it has been used by groups like the Atlas military and eve the White Fang. Specially when they will get the chance to steal such weapon from the kingdom.
"That's not much of a lead" said Qrow.
"I'm aware my actions have caused the citizens of Mantle to disapprove of me. They don't see me as the most trusting lately. If they choose to blame me for this then, I will gladly accept it."
"You taking the blame isn't going to make things better or solve the problem. It will only stir more negative emotions for the Grimm to come. At this rate Mantle will never be at peace. Their lives will be at constant risk every single day" replied Ruby.
"She's right. I think we should focus on these murders. I'd say it will be all good if we can remove one problem from the list as soon as possible. The sooner, the better" said the Branwen.
James was about to speak when he received a communication.
"What? Already? Here?"
The four stood in thought the man sounded a little taken back. Could it be more bad news, if its possible that is.
"No, it's fine. Let him land. I'll deal with him myself."
"More Mantle problems?" asked the scythe master and professional Huntsman.
"No. This one's an Atlas problem."
They didn't know what he was talking about until they saw an air ship flying their way. Ironwood went to the docking bay to received the ship. Team RWBY along with Velvet and Laphicet went to check it out following the General. Weiss saw the ship model and of course the symbol on it which it was the one of the SDC and her family's emblem. She already knew who it was. It was also his personal ship. The white haired girl knew she will have to face him sooner or later while she was here. The ship landed as the ramp emerged and from the double doors that had the emblem and the initials "SDC" opened revealing Jacquess Schnee. And the man wasn't looking happy in the least.
Since Weiss knows her father better than anyone. If he's here it could only mean his reasons for coming has to do about the company and money. There was no other way he would be out here in this damn cold. The mine was closed so it wasn't his business anymore.
"So let me get this straight, James. In addition to this nonsensical embargo of yours crippling my business, you also decided you have the authority to commandeer private property?"
Velvet gazed at Weiss and the white haired girl gave her a nod. Clearly telling her this man is her old man. He seemed like a ray of sunshine.
"When the council hears about this, you will never-"
"Actually, I've already informed them" spoke the General.
"As this is now the site of a classified military operation, it didn't even require a vote."
"Didn't require a vote?" the man stood shocked.
"You might want to brush up on Council law before you lose this upcoming election, Jacquess" Ironwood was that sure he didn't stood a chance at winning.
The former heiress didn't like the sound of that. When Velvet told her her father was running for the council the thought made her sick. If he does win the election it will give him more power, more money, more authority. Not just on business affairs but political ones as well. The Schnee will become more powerful and maybe gain the spot of most wealthiest family in Atlas. Of course that was all that Jacquess cares the most.
"Now. I've allowed you to land here once as courtesy, the next time, it won't be a friendly reception."
"Lately, you seem to forget who your friends really are. I'm going to get that council seat, James. And maybe then you'll-"
The elder Schnee paused as his eyes have landed on the white haired girl. She was here, in Solitas. Last he checked you ran away from the manor and left for who knows where. Weiss stood calm not being fazed by his presence he can get angry with her but he couldn't make her return home. She was here on official Huntress business to aid the military. And even if he tells to come home, she wasn't going to obey him. Velvet, Laphicet and the rest of her team watched hoping this doesn't turn ugly.
"You...You roped my missing daughter into these schemes of yours, too? How long has she been back in Atlas? Did Winter know about this?"
"It was my decision to come here" Weiss finally spoke having enough of this.
She faced the her old man as he turned to her. Some tension building while the older Crowe was watching with a hint of amusement. Watching the white haired girl facing her father with no regret is really satisfying.
"Just like it was my decision to leave. Or have you forgotten all about that?"
"If you think I'm one to forget anything, girl. Then you've misjudged the man your father is."
"Believe me, I know exactly the kind of man you are."
"How dare you speak to me that way-"
Just like that Velvet has gotten in front of him. Making sure the white haired girl was behind her. If he was planning in laying a hand on her, he was going to lose that hand. She stared at him with venom behind her eyes. This guy has gotten on her nerves and he was infuriating just how can Weiss stand him or even Winter.
"And you are?" Jacquess sounded annoyed at the young woman's presence.
"Her teacher."
"Teacher?"
"This is Velvet. She's from Beacon" spoke the former heiress.
"And what's a teacher doing all the way out here?"
"Helping my students on Huntress business. Also checking on their progress."
Jacquess cleared his throat. The way this woman was staring at him is enough to tell him to stay back and don't do anything. Always trusting his instincts he kept a distance and made sure not to cause a scene that will catch attention. But he went to the matter at hand talking to his daughter.
"You know, your mother was devastated when you left."
At this the former daemon glared at him. Playing the guilt trip card. And it was working, as Weiss reacted. Laphicet walked over to his sister trying to calm her. Yep, he could see the anger rising in her and when she gets angry, she starts destroying things and hitting stuff. Most likely she will punch the man before her.
"Didn't leave her room for days" he resumed.
The younger Crowe was trying to get her away from the elder Schnee. But Velvet wasn't budging oh boy, it might get ugly soon.
"You know how she gets when she's upset."
The former heiress stood with the feeling of guilt in her heart. The rest of her teammates glared at Jacquess, so this was her father. Ruby and Yang have never felt so lucky to have a father like Taiyang until, now. Then, there was a soft chuckle that caught their attention. The older man and Ironwood noticed that it came from Velvet. Laphicet was really worried that she was so angry she would laugh for no reason. It was impossible to tell what was going on in her head.
"Pardon? Is there something funny?"
"I knew it all along that you're an asshole."
And that was enough to erased all the guilt in Weiss as she smiled and did her best not to laughed. Yang however, burst out laughing while Ruby gasped at the sudden mention of the curse word and Blake grinned. Jacquess of course was outraged by her comment.
"Excuse me, do you know who I am!?"
"President of the Schnee Dust Company and the father of one of my students, sadly. It's no wonder why she ran off from you, twice."
"You should be very careful what you say. Anyone ever taught you to show respect to your elders?"
"If they deserve it."
"Velvet, come on stop it" muttered Laphicet.
"Teacher from Beacon huh? Are they all as disrespectful as you?"
"They're not like that. I'm a special case. The kind that doesn't take crap from no one."
The man chose to ignore her turning to Ironwood. There are more important things at hand to babbling nonsense.
"I didn't come here to beg for an abandoned mine. It's a matter of business I wish to discuss with you, in private."
The General gave a soft sigh. He didn't had time for this and his exhaustion was getting worse each day. James rubbed his forehead nodding to the Schnee.
"Very well. Follow me."
Jacquess nodded following him before stopping gazing at his daughter. He wanted to say a few words to her but it was pointless. His business with the General are far more important.
"It was nice meeting you" spoke Velvet while the man was rudely ignoring her.
"Made me so glad to remember I'm an orphan!"
And that was it. Team RWBY burst out laughing while Laphicet tried not to. It was rude and uncalled for. Scratch that maybe he does deserve it but still. The younger Crowe is just too good and innocent to be like his sister. Once the laughter was done, they were feeling so much better.
"How you holding up?" the older Crowe turned to the former heiress.
"I'm...Better but mostly, amused at your comment. Both of them."
"The first one was awesome and the second one oof! Burn!" followed Yang with a laugh.
"I didn't find it funny. Curse words are not funny" frowned Ruby.
"Me too. Bad words are just bad" followed Laphicet.
"Yeah!"
"You two are so boy scouts. It's nice to have a little laugh at curse words every now and them" said the brawler.
"Honestly, I'm not fond of them. But sometimes they must be said to the right people" replied the white haired girl.
"I enjoyed it" smiled Blake.
They heard a beeping noises as they have taken their scrolls. Finding out they have a new text message.
*From Penny*
*Congratulations!*
They read the message but next to the text stood a chibi version of Penny doing the robot dance. It was probably the cutest thing they have ever seen.
"Guys!" Jaune shouted while behind stood the rest of his team with Cardin and Qrow.
"You got the text too?" smiled the older Crowe at her boyfriend.
"We all did!" followed the red cloak leader.
And suddenly Penny flew landing gracefully with a big smile on her features. She seemed like she could happier for everyone.
"Finally! I've been wanting to use my whatsupremnant emoji for so long. And this is the best opportunity to use it!"
"Wait what?" the silver eyed girl had no idea.
"What's up Remnant?" followed Laphicet.
"It's a new social media site where you can chat and exchange, pictures, music with your friends and best of all you can create your OWN emoji!" she robot girl sounded so excited.
"I've heard of that site from the doc. There was a lot of hype about saying it's to be the best social media platform ever" spoke Cardin.
"It is! You guys have to make an account and create your emojis. Look at mine!" she had her opened scroll showing her chibi version still doing the robot dance.
"Is there a special reason for you to be using it?" Velvet remembered she said something about using it at the best opportunity.
"Why yes it's for this special occasion now that you succeeded in your first mission. And…Hey, where is Specialist Winter?"
"Winter's here?" spoke Weiss.
From one of the security vans emerged the older Schnee as she opened the front door. The white haired woman seemed to be looking everywhere with a frown on her features. What was with her. Obviously her younger sister know why she was acting like this as she sweat dropped. Pretty much she wanted to avoid their father because his ship was still stationed at the docking bay. The young woman left the vehicle walking over to the group and her sister.
"Father is with General Ironwood. I don't know where they went. He wanted to talk to him in private."
"I see" Winter felt a little relief that she hasn't seen him or him seeing her.
Honestly she wasn't in the mood to put up with him and his attitude.
"We'll have to wait for the General so we can start with the celebration."
"Celebration?" the former heiress was surprised like the rest.
"You will find out soon enough. All of you will" and she gave a small smile while Penny was still hype for whatever reason.
It was starting to get dark in Mantle as some of the people have gone back to their houses to get warm and comfortable. Those that couldn't afford a roof and those that couldn't anymore just went to somewhere else. Other, went to the slums and were able to get warm from the fires of the steel barrels. The streets of the urban district have gotten empty as the sound of steps could be heard. A young woman holding a grocery bag was smiling along with her young son. They were on their way to their home ready to make dinner, eat, take a bath, then off to their bed before calling it a night.
"Can I carry the bag mom?"
"That's the third time you asked, sweetie. I told you it's too heavy for you" she smiled.
"But I want to help you."
"How about I give you some of the groceries when we get home?"
"That's not fair. I want to help now."
"You will also help me set the groceries on the fridge and on the cabinets. How's that, enough help?"
"Yay!" the boy cheered as his mother smiled back.
They crossed a street taking the path that will take them to their house. The sound of a cat like it was a fight startled the mother while her son laughed. The woman just shrugged it off, he has enough to be scared of. Taking another step, she suddenly stopped as something has caught her attention. At the end of an alley stood one of the military's security drones. It was badly damaged as it got hit by something strong. This could have been the work of some of trouble making kids or one of those thug gangs that opposes the military. The boy stood curious staring at the destroyed drone.
"Halt."
The mother and child were startled as they saw a security guard walking to them holding his M1A rifle. The woman realized he will think they were responsible for the destruction of the drone. Accusing them of committing a crime.
"It wasn't us. It was already destroyed when we arrived. We're just passing by, I swear."
"There's no need to panic ma'am. It's just a machine" his tone sounded eerie.
"Nothing to worry about. These sort of things happens everyday."
"Thank you. I really don't know who did this. I'm, my son and I are so grateful for the work of the Atlas military. I just know General Ironwood is doing his hardest-"
"It's all right, nothing to worry about. I believe you. You had nothing to do with this incident. You see...It was me. I did it…."
His tone has suddenly change to a cold one enough, to send her chills down her spine. By instinct she took her son's hand while having a hard time carrying the bag of groceries with only one. She was trembling, why was she feeling so afraid of this guard. Then it became clear, her conscious screaming at her. This guy was no security guard for the military.
It happened so fast when he pointed his rifle right at her face. Time stopped but she felt nothing when the dust bullet pierced her forehead releasing so much blood. Killing her instantly. The grocery bag hit the ground as the boy couldn't react or comprehend what just happened. When he saw his mother's dead boy along with a pool of her blood, he didn't got the chance to scream for her. As something wrapped around his head, covering his mouth as his cries have been silent shut. Gazing what was keeping him from crying his mother's name. A long silver mechanical scorpion tail as the man had a wicked grin formed his lips. The tears were falling on the poor child.
"No daddy to save your mommy? Oh dear, to become an orphan at such a young age."
The boy was in tears, his heart has been broken into a million pieces for what he just witnessed.
*Didn't I said to avoid the security surveillance? Watts voice came from the fake guard's ear piece.
The guard who was obviously Tyrian gazed at the camera that was behind, in the right upper corner of a street lamp post.
*Just because I can hack them doesn't mean you should carelessly get caught by them.
In reply the scorpion faunus shot the camera destroying it.
"There. They have to believe I'm destroying surveillance otherwise, it wouldn't be fun."
*Try to avoid being seen for now. You will get spotted eventually and that's, when your outfit will come to play. I can only say the General's reputation is going to get worse.
He chuckled before he noticed he was still holding the young boy. His tail kept his mouth shut.
"Shhhhh...It's all right, it's all right little one. You're not going to live a life filled with pain."
He pointed the rifle right into the boy's forehead. About to share his mother's fate.
"Trust me, you won't feel anything" he chuckled.
The weapon's fire echoed throughout the silent city.
To be continued
-Whoa that last part was so dark I can't believe I wrote it. During that scene I imagined Tyrian being voiced by Mark Hammil in his Joker voice. I know Josh Grelle is doing an amazing job voicing him but Mark as Tyrian would be freaking epic.
-Sorry for taking so long but good news I have already stated writing the next chapter look forward to it next Saturday.
-Finally their new outfits are revealed. Ruby and Weiss's are basically the same from canon because I like them except I made some slight alterations along with Weiss's change of hair I hate that huge ass ponytail. I've been wanting to give her the Princess Leia hairdo for so long. Ruby's hair remains the same because I don't like her v7 hairdo. Blake's outfit is new and it was created in my noggin. She's basically a tech ninja while Yang's outfit is from the Chinese mobile game which to me is the best RWBY game and ironic this game wasn't made by RT lol. Ren and Nora's outfit stayed the same as canon because I also like them while Jaune is new too I wanted to get him out of the armor and wear something more normal. Cardin's outfit is a barbarian style, Laphicet's is a normal outfit. Qrow's is Diluc's outfit from Genshin Impact because he looks bad ass in those clothes. As for Velvet's outfit it's Mei Raiden Shadow Dash AC Dansai Spectramancer from Honkai Impact 3. I basically remove all the decorations and stick with the colors. I chose this outfit because I love the battle suit and it looks good on her.
-Am I going with Weiss/Marrow or Frost Hound? Yes, Yes I am. I've been wanting to make this happen because I believe they make a nice couple. Expect more development between these two.
-I think this was the best time to revealed Millionaire because the mine was filled with Centinels and he's also a Centipede (PS: I hate Centipedes). I wanted to make it the boss over the Geist. I think Millionaire is one annoying boss using it's millionaire rolling attack. Unless you're over level you might have some difficult with it.
-Yes whatsupremnant is actually a combination of wassap and facebook and the emojis are obviously their chibi version from the chibi series. I miss the Chibi series so much.
-There's a crazy theory from Phoenix Night's YT channel. It's old since the video is from six months ago. That the relic of Choice is Goodwitch transformed human by Ozpin. It really got my attention. If he was able to turned Qrow and Raven into birds couldn't he turn a relic into an actual human? Maybe he originally wanted to turn all relics into humans but he lost all his power and could only turn one. Phoenix has so many great theory the guy should be hire by RT to be a writer for CRWBY way better than Eddy Rivas.
-I decided to nerfed Marrow's semblance because it has to be done. He can only do it twice due that it takes a lot of his aura and the time freeze only lasts ten seconds. The reasons for me nerfing it are below in the episode review.
-review for v8 ch3: titled" Strings" first this episode was better than previous two. I felt like the humor was off since this volume is more serious. There was no need for Penny to act all happy pointing which way to go or Nora pushing all the buttons of the elevator and the coffee spilling. Though I smiled at those I still said it was off. Nora speaking like a victim of abuse towards Ren made me face palmed. Because that card worked so well with Adam. Then Blake's comment throwing another bone for the BB shippers when I'm sure she was talking about about Adam. The DC comic showed there was no abuse from him to her and guess what according to Kerry Shawcross the comic IS canon with the main series (don't know how that is but whatever not gonna question their logic). The Penny fight with the Ace Ops was good except Marrow could have used his semblance from the beginning of the damn fight. He could have done the same thing when they fought RWBY but noooooo. CRWBY showing they can't write a character with an OP semblance not surprised. Nora getting hit by the electricity and showing there's a limit to how much her semblance can absorbed whatever I doubt she will die. Finally Watts is going to hack Penny predicted by many as the Ace Ops took one of her blades from the fight. Of course he has changed sight since Ironwood has his men pointing their weapons at his if he doesn't cooperate. All in all it was a good episode and I would have enjoyed it without the humor and the ship teasing.
-v8 ch4: titled" Fault" this episode was better than the last. I enjoyed the chase scene, Jaune using his worthless shield grenade to make it look like something worth having lol being clever. Ren saving Yang and Jaune from falling I like it. When he was so angry that he said the truth of things (ironically the same truth the fandom wants to deny it) love it my respect for Ren went up in this episode. The part when they were walking saying their aura will drop leaving them to get cold made face palmed they actually forgot of Jaune's semblance you know aura enhancer lol. Oscar getting tortured by Salem ouch, getting beat up by Hazel double ouch. Cinder disobeying Salem's orders oh boy does she want to die, Emerald joining her whatever. Though I wonder if CRWBY will show her whole back story to make the fans sympathize with her character and maybe get a possible redemption. I don't care about her anymore she can die for all I care for. At one time I wanted to know but they're too late. IMO I think she should have gotten her backstory in v4 after she was in a sort of vegetable state. Heck we still don't know how she lost her eye and arm. Did Ruby went Avatar state on her when she used the silver eyes? We may or may never know CRWBY has shown they can't write a good story.
-Cont: now on to the one scene that made me dislike the episode and the only thing I didn't like it near the end. In the first episode Ruby and Yang had a slight argument in what to do next. Yang wants to protect the people of Mantle which it's the right choice for me and my respect for her went up, liking her character for the first time since v5. While Ruby wants to go to Amity Colosseum and tell the world of Salem (again Ironwood's plan from v7 which its an insane plan and main reason they chose to keep the truth of Salem from him, yeah she's being a hypocrite my respect for her went down and manipulating Penny it goes further down CRWBY's handling her character so bad in this volume it breaks my heart). Point is Yang asked Jaune" does she think less of me because I chose to protect Mantle?" and the blond being the good heart guy that he is" Ruby will always love you no matter what you choose" I think it was that anyway, she replies" yeah...Ruby". Her tone and her expression nope, she WASN'T thinking of her sister but someone else. Now who could it be? Take a guess, who is it? Yep is someone from Team RWBY nope, it's not Weiss leaving one member. Yes it's her, it's fucking her Blake. I hate this so much the context of the conversation is because she had a disagreement with Ruby it has nothing to do with Blake. Heck Blake didn't even said a word to her why do they have to bring ships FUCK! This episode proves that Bumblebee is dictating the story telling.
-Cont: I don't care about ships, Renora, Bumblebee I don't. I want the plot and characters but CRWBY knowing how popular the Bee's are they have to keep throwing a bone to the shippers to keep them happy. And they also know the majority of the fans watch RWBY because of that ship. They don't care about the story, the fights nothing just that ship. Proof of this go to YT or the cancerous place that is twitter. I can't take it. You know if it was Blake the one she had an argument it would have been okay with me but no. This feels like v4 all over again. The reason why Yang chose to put the mechanical arm and train with her father, the reason she went to Mistral it WAS Ruby not Blake. Everything she did was to find her sister, she didn't know a thing that Blake would come to Haven. You know what I'm done. This show is being destroy by two important factors, the bad writing and the ships. Anyone that says otherwise is in denial. Anyway the end showed something emerging from the ground my guess it has to be the sulfur fish and winner of the create a Grimm contest from Full Sail University. Honestly I think the Wendigo deserves to be the winner.
-Replying to reviews:
*calderoneric758- I don't think anyone from the group will die except those that aren't important like members of the Merry Huntresses, Ace Ops, Pietro, Maria, Robin and of course Ironwood.
*Shadow Joestar- thank you very much.
*Jamieoeyes- to be honest they shouldn't be surprised about a Grimm talking specially us the viewers. Oobleck said to Ruby in v2 the Mt Glenn episode that Grimm can become very intelligent explaining the pack of Goliath near the abandoned city. Port should have told them the same thing since they were taking Grimm Studies class with him.
*ian12091995- oh I have no idea thanks for letting me know.
*Guest- maybe, I think so we shall see.
*TheEmeraldMage- thank you for the constant support I admit v8 so far is actually doing good so far. Definitely better than the previous volume.
*Guest- never seen Kame Rider sorry.
*CT7567Rules- thanks for the suggestions but I have already chose the outfits.
*Saint Saber Fang- good luck with any stories you're planning to write in the future.
*Gabriel443- gracias por todo el apoyo amigo.
*Ouroborosdragon- I'm sure Velvet knows she didn't go easy on Jaune when she was training him. In fact I am planning of bringing that up during the new volume. Either way thanks for pointing it out.
*Prime's apprentice- thanks a lot for the suggestion and I want to watch RvB because I started watching the first two seasons and I was laughing my ass off. Classic RT will always be better than the current one.
-Staying on the topic of RWBY they just tweeted an update that following the release of ch7 on December 19 they will be going on their mid season break like they usually but this year it will a two month break. Ch8 will be release on February don't know why though. But regarding this story I don't know if I will wait this long or just finish my version of v7.
-I still haven't seen ch5 I will eventually watch it. From what I've heard it's an even better episode than the last one. I'm actually hype this volume is turning out to be better than I thought.
-As always thank you very much for all of the favs, follows and reviews I really appreciate it.
Next time: Dream Come True
