Shuzenji raised her head as she heard some noise echoing from the hallway, just in time to see Shinsou walking into the infirmary, with Midoriya in his arms.
"Did... something happen?" Shuzenji frowned slightly, as Shinsou gently set Midoriya down on one of the infirmary beds, with the smaller boy clinging onto Shinsou tightly, breathing heavily. There were tear streaks running down his face, and Shuzenji hastily gave Midoriya a cool, wet cloth so that he could wipe his tears away.
"You brought it with you?" Shinsou softly asked, and Midoriya nodded, holding onto the taller boy. Shinsou gently maneuvered about so that he could fish the small bottle of medication out of Midoriya's pocket, before handing it to Shuzenji, "It... doesn't work too well..."
"I can see that." Shuzenji took the bottle and placed it on the table, "Just let me look over him to make sure there aren't any other negative effects."
Shinsou straightened out, and was about to stand to the side to give Shuzenji some space, but Midoriya vehemently shook his head, and clutched onto Shinsou's arm tighter, "No...Don't leave me... Please..."
"I'm not leaving. I'll be right here." Shinsou sat down by the edge of the bed, close enough to Midoriya that it placated the small greenette, while giving Shuzenji enough room to move around so she could check on the boy properly.
It took some time for her to check on everything that she deemed important, and she settled back into her chair, staring at all the notes she had made. He seemed fine, other than the worsening of his condition that had been amplified by the medications.
He would be fine; he didn't take too much, and his medication was only supposed to last half a day so they could discuss how the medication affected him, so it wasn't that bad.
But looking at the nervous, anxious mess that Midoriya was, lying on the bed and clinging onto Shinsou's arm the entire time, Shuzenji knew that she was only trying to convince herself that it wasn't her fault that Midoriya had been reduced to this state, when it really was her fault.
"If he only took the dosage that I told him to take, then he should be fine once the effects of the medication wears off." Shuzenji let out a small sigh, the bottle of medication that Shinsou had fished out of Midoriya's pocket sitting on her table mockingly, "Just give him some time to rest."
"See, Zuku? You'll be fine." Shinsou nodded, and turned down to look at Midoriya, "Just relax. Everything would work out. I'll come and find you after lessons, okay?"
The green haired boy just shook his head, shifting closer to Shinsou, grabbing onto his hand tightly. He gently ran his fingers through Midoriya's hair, and the smaller boy just slowly closed his eyes, his exhaustion finally getting the better of him.
"Fine. I'll stay for a bit, okay?" Shinsou murmured, settling down by the side of the bed.
Shuzenji just sat down into her chair, and shook her head. If she had just decided to start off by give him the other medication instead… maybe they could have avoided this altogether.
The taller boy didn't know how long he had stayed in the infirmary, but Midoriya fell asleep, and the lavender haired boy stood up, "I'll be heading back to class now, Recovery Girl."
"Alright." Shuzenji nodded, "Don't strain yourself."
Shinsou nodded, and shot the sleeping boy one last glance, before he slowly trudged out of the infirmary.
A few minutes later, there was the sound of footsteps, and Nezu rushed into the infirmary, his laptop and several files clutched firmly under his arms, "I heard from Lunch Rush that something happened?! Is Izuku okay?"
Shuzenji shook her head, "The medication wasn't compatible with him and he had a meltdown."
Nezu just slipped into the chair next to the sleeping boy's bed, "Ah... I see... Are you going to let him try the other one? After all, those two medications seem to have opposing effects, depending on the person. If one of them is incompatible, the other one usually works better."
"I would... but... I don't want to risk seeing him like this again." Shuzenji just shook her head, "Forget it. I'm just being silly."
"You do know that things like this happen, right?" Nezu sighed, looking down at the small greenette, "Despite all the scientific advancements, antidepressants are still something that is trial and error. Don't blame yourself for something like this."
"I know, I know." Shuzenji sighed, and she heard the sound of something rustling. She turned to Midoriya, who had flipped around in his sleep, and the small boy slowly opened his eyes tiredly.
The animal principal reached down and gently patted Midoriya's head, "Hey, Izuku. How are you feeling?"
The boy blinked at Nezu in an exhausted haze, muttering blearily, " … Dad...?"
"Just get a bit more rest, alright?" Nezu's tail was twisting as he tried to ignore the flutter in his heart when Midoriya uttered that word, and silently, the small boy gave a small, weak nod, before closing his eyes as he rested his cheek against the pillow.
Shuzenji's gaze lingered on the green haired boy, before she turned to Nezu, "You know... your relationship with Midoriya is really good for him, given that most kids rely heavily on their parents, and Midoriya lost that mental stability as a young child. Just giving support and allowing him time to open up... that's something even the best antidepressants can't fix. Even if Midoriya doesn't openly say it... you really mean a lot to him."
"I know that." Nezu let out a small, sad smile, "I don't want to keep looking towards the past. I just hope he gets better with time. All of his other friends were also a great help."
Shinsou slowly trudged back to the classroom, and pulled the door open, "I'm sorry I'm late."
"I know. Sit down." Aizawa stated, and Shinsou slinked back to his chair, as the rest of his class looked at him.
"How is Izuku!?" Iida shot to his feet, "Is he alright?"
"He didn't look too good during lunch." Ashido asked, and Kaminari frowned at her, "Didn't look too good? That's an understatement! He was like -"
Before he could finish his sentence, Aizawa cleared his throat, his eyes flaring red as his hair and capture weapon floated up menacing, like snakes ready to strike, "That is enough. All of you, be quiet. Shinsou, go sit down."
That was more than enough to silence the class, and Shinsou got back to his seat without any problems.
"When you're a hero, you would be exposed to all sorts of things that could result in symptoms that disrupt your daily lives." Aizawa pinched his nose as he stopped using his quirk, his hair fluttering down into his usually messy hairstyle, "Stop being so nosy and leave other people alone. Some things like this are private."
Aizawa gave the class, especially the more talkative members of his class, some time to process what he had just said.
"Even then, it's not Shinsou's place to tell you what's going on; it's Midoriya's. If he wants to fill you in, I will leave it to him, but if he doesn't want to, you better leave him alone and not hound him with questions." Aizawa sighed, "I don't want to hear any more questions, whether it be about what happened during lunch, or what happened to Midoriya. If I hear a single question before the school day is over, even if it is in other lessons, I will give you detention. Understood?"
The twenty students in his class nodded stiffly, not wanting to incur Aizawa's wrath, and the Erasure Hero started his homeroom lesson.
Trauma and other issues like depression were things that heroes were acquainted with, and Aizawa would say that there were cases where he wished that he had never experienced.
Especially... after what had happened to Shirakumo... Aizawa couldn't even remember how many times he had woken up in the middle of the night, plagued with nightmares of the death of his friend, thinking about all the ways that he could have tried to save him had he just done one thing differently.
But alas, these were issues that heroes would have to deal with on a daily basis, whether it be missions that they have to tackle on the job, or afflicting them in their daily lives.
These were usually covered in their third year, since most of the students had an idea of what kind of life they had carved out for themselves and were not exposed to so much danger... but he might have to talk to Nezu and the other teachers about pushing the lesson forward; the first year Hero Course students had been involved in too many dangerous scenarios, and had seen and experienced way too much.
Some of them were already having counseling sessions with Inui for trauma... but trauma wasn't the only issue that students had to face. Plus... he had to think about how to factor Midoriya into these lessons. He didn't want to make his issues any worse than they already were... but he couldn't just isolate the poor boy from the class altogether.
But he would deal with that later, once he was done with his lessons and could have some quiet time to himself, and could also run several suggestions through Yamada to see what he thought. Plus, he should probably fetch Reiko and Ryuto from the dorms; maybe that would make Midoriya feel better.
Shinsou tossed all of his books into his bag, zipping his bag shut as he slung it over his back. He was probably going to go check on Midoriya, and if Shuzenji felt that he had to stay in the infirmary longer, then he would do a bit of work while waiting.
"Are you going to check on Izuku?" Uraraka asked, and Shinsou nodded, "Yeah. It's not my place to tell... but it's just unlucky that something like that happened. Right now, the most important thing that he needs is support."
"Yeah. I get you." Uraraka nodded, before she whispered, "Do you know what Izu likes to eat? Sato was thinking that maybe he could make something for Izuku..."
"So that's why you were passing notes in class." Shinsou blinked, before he tilted his head slightly, "I'm... honestly not too sure what he likes... I do know that he likes sour drinks... but food... I can ask him, if he's feeling up to it. But I think for the moment, something simple should be good enough."
"Gotcha." Uraraka gave Shinsou a thumbs up, "Go take care of him, okay? And let him know we're all here for him."
"Yeah." Shinsou nodded, "Think you can let Tenya know where I am just in case he starts freaking out or something?"
"Sure." The brunette let out a small laugh, "Though I feel that he would be preoccupied with dealing with the others. Don't worry about it! I think he took Izuku's bag to the dorms already."
Shinsou let out a small sigh, and Uraraka hastily packed up her things and left the classroom, leaving him to his thoughts. The lavender haired boy just slowly made his way out of the classroom, walking towards the infirmary. He peeked inside, noticing that Nezu and Shuzenji were talking, while Midoriya was lying on the bed, still fast asleep.
Reiko and Ryuto were settled by Midoriya, with Ryuto lying down by Midoriya's neck, and Reiko just looking between Shuzenji and Nezu, listening to them talk as she used her paw to pat Midoriya's head.
He knocked on the door, alerting the two UA staff members of his presence, before he stepped into the room.
"Ah, hello Shinsou." Nezu turned to the smaller boy, and Shinsou nodded, before turning to Shuzenji and asking, "Is Izuku okay?"
"Yes. He's fine." Shuzenji stated, "I'll give him a couple of days to rest before letting him try the other antidepressant, though given how other people have reacted to these two antidepressants... it's probably the one that would work."
Shinsou tilted his head slightly, "What do you mean by that?"
"Well, these two antidepressants are very similar, that is why just by looking at the chemical make up, I felt they would be a good fit for Midoriya." Shuzenji replied, "But they have a slight difference that makes people react to them differently. Usually, people who have adverse reactions to one of them would be completely fine taking the other, and given how badly Midoriya reacted to the first medication I gave him... it's highly likely that the other one would be effective."
"Ah, I see." The lavender haired boy nodded, awkwardly standing by the entrance of the infirmary, until Shuzenji ushered him into the room, allowing him to sit on the bed by Midoriya.
He felt the smaller boy shift under the covers, and he looked down at the smaller boy, as Midoriya tiredly opened his eyes, blinking as he noticed Shinsou's presence, "... Hito?"
"Hey, Zuku." Shinsou gently reached out for Midoriya's hand, clasping it tightly, reassuringly, "How are you feeling?"
"... tired... but okay..." Midoriya admitted, and Reiko let out a small purr as she pressed her paw against Midoriya's cheek. The greenette pushed himself up slowly, rubbing his eyes, before he looked at Nezu and Shuzenji, and Ryuto let out a small chirp as he tried to regain his balance as he remained perched on Midoriya's shoulder.
"That's good." Shuzenji nodded, "Do you want to go back to your room and sleep, or stay here?"
Midoriya tilted his head slightly, thinking, "... room..."
"Alright." Shuzenji swiveled on her chair, "Just call me if you don't feel well, and don't eat anything too complicated."
Shinsou nodded, and picked up his bag, as Midoriya slipped his shoes on and scooped up the feline and avian. Nezu packed up all of his paperwork and laptop, and he smiled at Midoriya, "If you ever want to talk, I'll always have time, okay?"
The greenette slowly nodded, standing up, and Shinsou gently grabbed Midoriya's arm, "Come on, let's go."
