Matt wakes up on the rather hard couch that Max has in the rectory. He simply did not feel like shuffling cars around last night and crashed with Max. His nose is tickled by the smell of breakfast wafting from the kitchen. He could use a bit of sustenance this morning as the thoughts of the previous day rattle around his brain. This time yesterday, well he was doing something quite different than this morning. He still has no idea how to process the last couple of days. With the sudden manifestation of the baby daddy, the experiences have entered the territory of the surreal. Perhaps this will make a great story one day but today it still stings a bit.
Matthew rounds the corner to see Max hard at work making a traditional Fairchild breakfast with eggs, bacon and toast. As a distraction for Matt, Max decides to bring up Maj and her new beau. "So our dear sister seems to have pulled an Ahab." Matt glances up at Max with the appropriately confused expression which means the distraction is working. "Ah, Matthew, Finn is a Rothschild. Like one of "THE" Rothschilds. Like the billionaire ones, we own everything that was once for sale, ones." Matt is surprised, he did not give Finn much thought. He knew he was wealthy but billionaire? "Really? You serious?" Max pours a pair of coffees as he takes a seat across from Matt. Matt smirks. "So should we start our Christmas lists." Matt rises to load the plates since Max cooked. "You know, she did look happy." Matt offers as he places a plate in front of Max. Max looks up with a sincere smile. "Yeah, she really did. So do we tell the others?" Matt returns to his seat. "Not on your life."
"So, Matty, what the hell were you thinking with the lady with a baby?" Matt knows that Max was never one to mince words. Max's role in the family was that of the conscience. "Oh hell, I don't know. I liked her, a lot." Max is not quite buying this line from his brother. "Matt, you barely know her." The reality of the situation hits Matt, he actually doesn't know Rory that well. He felt like he had known Rory because he knows her history. Though the story wasn't well written, it was still true. Matt realizes that his problem is that things around him are changing. People are coupling, his world is changing and he is not quite sure he likes it. Max flips on the TV as a source of distraction.
Logan helps Rory clean up the dishes as to try to bridge the distance between the two of them. Logan is actually happy to see Finn and Maj wander into the kitchen for breakfast. Finn feeds Maj's addiction by topping of their mugs. Rory notices that Maj is actually dressed for the office. She is hoping that Maj plans on taking Finn with her. The house has been a bit crowded for the conversations she wants to have with Logan. Maj had grabbed the paper off of the stoop on her way to the kitchen. As they take seats at the island, Logan cannot help but notice the comfortable routine of Maj and Finn as she hands off the financial section to Finn, as she takes in the headlines. It is obvious to Rory that what Finn said must be true. The comfortable routine between Maj and Finn was once the comfortable routine of her and Logan. The exchanged look between Rory and Logan is only a confirmation of the distance between them.
To break the tension, Logan heads down to the garage to grab his bag from Maj's car. Rory deciding that the whole Maj/Finn dynamic is too awkward to deal with, heads upstairs to change. For such a big house, with two couples, it feels quite small. As Logan hits the kitchen, Finn, with eyes fixed on the paper, engages Logan. "So I see it is going well." Logan lets out a sigh as he pulls out a seat. Maj knows that Logan wants to talk to Finn and decides to allow them some space. "On that note, I have partners to meet." Maj walks over to Finn, kissing him on the cheek. "I'll meet up with you in a bit, love." Logan pulls Maj's keys out of his pocket to offer them to Maj. "I'm good. Feel free to use the car." Maj quite likes Max's VW.
Logan slumps into the chair near Finn. "So what is going on with you and the baby momma." Logan runs his hands through his hair as he does when he is frustrated. "Logan, we have been mates for a long time. You two used to be all up in each other, even with the complications, other than the obvious, what is going on with you two?" Finn is feeling much the Dr Phil as of this morning. "Finn, I have no idea. She doesn't want me to marry Odette."
"Logan, the question is do you want to marry Odette and don't give me the bullshit of the dynastic plan." Logan looks at Finn with appropriate side eye. "How did you meet, Odette any way? Finn is actually curious. Odette seemed to materialize out of thin air, two years ago. Logan smiles at Finn as he answers. "Actually, I met Odette at Rex." The revelation strikes Finn, he remembers Maj mentioning Rex and Damian Moreau during their Paris adventure. Finn is well aware of Damian Moreau. Factions of his family have dealt with Damian from time to time. Maj mentioned that Odette told her that Mitchum had introduced Odette to Damian but Finn has a feeling that might not be true. Odette has lied before, Finn's intuition tells him that Odette lying again. Finn had a sense of familiarity when he met Odette but he brushed it off to the fact that he crosses so many circles in life and in business. The details begin to click in Finn's head as Logan shifts the conversation to lighter topics.
Finn decides to head up to shower and ready himself to meet up with Maj at her firm. Logan decides to drop his bag upstairs and take another run at Rory. Logan passes Rory on his way upstairs. Logan mentions a shower with Rory waving him up the stairs as she continues down. "I'll be in the living room." Logan decides that he needs the shower to clear his head for the next conversation with Rory.
