Rory browses the library of books that Maj has accumulated over time, mindlessly running her fingers across the bindings seeking inspiration. She pulls on a binding to free it from the well stocked shelves. In freeing the book, a series of pictures cascade to the floor at her feet. Though an effort, Rory wiggles down to try to gather the pictures. Rory quickly realizes that the book is actually filled with pictures, tucked into the pages. The book is the History of Time. It was a random title that intrigued her. She takes the book to the couch so that she can thumb through the surprising content.
As she thumbs through the pictures, Rory recognizes Honor's face among the photos along with Josh and someone who must be Mark. The pictures appear to be from Maj's law school days. As she dives deeper into the book, Rory comes across pictures tickets, stubs and other memorabilia from the past. She thumbs to towards the end of the book to find random pictures of Finn and Maj in random places in Europe. The pictures are dated after Finn would have graduated from Yale. Rory realizes that Finn and Logan were telling the truth, there is a history between Maj and Finn. Rory's own memory is triggered. She had seen Maj before. Maj was at events surrounding Honor's wedding, several times when she was interning for Mitchum, Maj had met Mitchum at the end of the day for something or other. Maj has been on the fringes of her life for a long time just their portion of the Ven diagram did not intersect. The fact that Maj knows Jess is just freaky coincidence.
With the sound of footsteps behind her, Rory realizes that she has been looking at the pictures for quite a while. Logan notices his sister's image as he picks up a few of the photos to clear a seat. "Wow, this was forever ago." Logan offers with a smile. Logan joins Rory in the glance through the pictures. Logan tips the binding to appreciate the irony of Maj's filing system. "You know, Logan, your father never cared about our relationship when we were together." Logan is not sure where this statement is coming from though the moment in time is likely drawn out from the pictures. "He always said your love life was your own to have." Logan waits for Rory to pause with enough time to add to the conversation. "True, my mother and grandfather were more concerned than my father, where is this coming from?"
"Why does he care about Odette?" Rory's thoughts are a bit disjointed as she tries to fumble through what she wants to say. Logan sits back for a few moments to try to figure out what Rory is actually asking him. "Do you want to know about my life with Odette?" Rory turns towards Logan. She hesitates which prompts Logan to continue. "Rory, I know we had the whole Vegas rules thing going on for years but this is now bigger than Vegas. If this is my child we are forever linked no matter who we are with, I will share whatever you want to know, just ask me."
Despite the fact that Rory knows that this will hurt, she wants the information. The best decisions are based on information. "Tell me your love story." Rory slips the pictures back into the book as she attempts to slide it to the table. Logan takes the book, placing it on the table as he tries to determine if this is really what Rory wants to hear. Rory reads Logan, reinforcing her request. "I want to know."
Logan settles back into the couch, taking longer than a pause to decide if this is the best course of action. "Rory, I met Odette two years ago at a night club called Rex. I had met Colin in Paris after our trip to Frankfurt. Colin had just bought the nightclub and wanted to show it off. You know how Colin can be." Logan pauses to recall the details himself. Odette was in the VIP section with a bunch of other people, we ended up hanging out most of the night. We exchanged numbers and met for dinner the next night. I enjoyed her company and it became a thing. It just evolved."
Logan fully realizes that Rory is going to call him to the carpet for more detail since he pretty much just gave her the Twitter version of his love story. Logan fully realizes that this is not his love story. This is his dynastic plan story. The what came to be. It is not like he did not have relationships after Rory, actually, he had plenty of them as did Rory. Odette was easy. She appeared and just kind of fit into his world. His father knew Odette, it just became what it is today. There is no grand love affair. No dramatic proposal. There are expectations, and there is the path to meeting those expectations. For the last 5 or 6 years, Rory was his love affair. The stolen moments, the trips, the dinners, the... Logan pauses his thoughts. This is a dangerous place to have his head and he needs to slow the roll.
"Why did you propose to her?" Rory folds her arms onto her belly to draw attention. Logan offers the appropriate and expected level of side eye. "Rory, we had dated for almost two years, it was time." Rory cannot help but recognize a similar timeline in her own life with Logan. "and you are willing to just let her go?" Rory knows that this is an underhanded question. This situation is not that simple but she is willing to poke at Logan as a gauge.
"Rory, you know that this situation is not black and white." Logan tries to think of a delicate way to approach Rory. "Why are you here, Logan? Why run to me if it is not black and white. You amazingly let the UK just before a lockdown where Odette could not follow you and you came to see me." Rory huffs in Logan's direction. Logan realizes that all that Rory said was quite true. He did plan this with a little help from the universe and a dose of kismet.
