Chapter 82: Settling the Score Part 2
Julia glanced up at Sora's towering monster as it grinned down at her with glassy eyes. It was powerful, but every monster had a weakness.
"You almost done yet? I want to hurry up and beat you."
"Keep you pants on, short stuff. I draw!" I summon Gem Knight Iolite (1300/2000) in attack mode, but don't get too attached because I tribute him to summon Gem Knight Prismaura via Brilliant Diamond's effect! Next, by discarding Gem Knight Garnett, say goodbye to your Nightmary!"
The valiant night shot out a barrage of lightning, ready to strike down the monstrosity where it stood...
Only for the apparition of Frightfur Bear to get in its way, being violently shocked before exploding with a cry of agony.
"Surprised? When Nightmary is targeted by my opponent's card effect, I can banish a Frightfur from my extra deck to negate it. Sorry, but looks like she's staying right where she is."
Realizing she was out of options, Julia ended her turn.
"I switch Brilliant Diamond to defense mode and set one card face down. Your move."
"Not that I need to do much. Dangerous Frightfur Nightmary, take out her Prismaura!"
Once more, the deadlocks on the doll struck out and impaled Julia's night, destroying it. This time, Julia wasn't so lucky, spinning out of control as the razor sharp hair sent her spiraling along the track.
Julia: 950
And just like before, Nightmary opened her mouth and absorbed 7 more poor souls, growing as big as the tallest skyscraper in the city (4700-6100).
"I think I've done enough damage for now, so I'll let you take your last turn. But no matter what you do, I'll win!"
Realizing Sora was right, Julia evaluated her options. She had one, but it was a long shot.
I didn't want to rely on luck, but at this point I have no other choice. But first...
"I activate the spell card, Extra Fusion! Now I can fusion summon using monsters from my extra deck!"
"What? But only that card was made solely for Duel Academy Honor Students! How did-"
"Consider it a thank you gift from Declan Akaba, and with it I'll put you in your place for good! I'll fuse Gem Knights Zirconia, Seraphinite, and Citrine to fusion summon Gem Knight Master Diamond! And don't forget, for every Gem monster in the graveyard, he gains 100 attack. I have 11, so that's 1100 attack points (2900-4000)."
"So what? He still doesn't have anywhere near enough attack points to finish off my Nightmary."
Julia remained silent, neither denying or agreeing with that statement.
"Why are you so obsessed with winning anyway?"
"Why? Because if you're not a winner, then you're nothing."
"Chill out. You're way too serious."
"I knew you wouldn't understand."
"Make me."
Sora sighed in annoyance, but proceeded to tell his story.
"All my life, I was made fun of for my size. Teens would bully me, my siblings would attack me, I was considered worthless. But then I joined Duel Academy, and I realized something: in dueling, it doesn't matter who's bigger or smaller. Its the monsters that do the fighting, so as long you know what you're doing you'll win every time. I fought hard to get where I am now, and I earned my rank. And then you come along, someone who never should've had fusion to begin with, and beat me! I was the laughing stock of the school! Now I'm going to crush you with my ultimate monster!"
"Pathetic."
"Excuse me?"
"You expect me to feel sorry for you? You lost because you got cocky, just like you'll lose now."
"How? My monster-"
"Relies on you having a bunch of monsters in your graveyard, but without that its nothing. I activate my trap card, Fiend Comedian! Now I flip a coin, and if I call it right, all cards in your graveyard are banished. But if I get it wrong, I have to send cards from the top of my deck equal to that same amount."
Sora burst out laughing, unable to believe what he was hearing.
"You're kidding, right? You're really going to place your hopes of winning on a coin flip?"
"It all comes down to this. Heads!"
A coin appeared in the air, flipping round and round. It hit the floor on its side, spinning around for a second before landing on...
Heads!
"No!"
The sutures all over Nightmarey's body began to rip and burst, black stuffing oozing out like blood. From these tears, the souls of all of Sora's monsters that had been sent there floated out, his monster shrinking with ever soul lost before they all disappeared into the sky. Sora's monster flopped over, its eyes rolling around lifelessly as it powered down (6100-2000).
"This duel is over! Gem Knight Master Diamond, take out his Nightmarey and end this duel!"
All Sora could do was watch in horror as Julia's night cleaved his strongest monster down to size, taking the rest of his life points with it.
Sora: 0000
Julia wins!
Sora pounded his duel runner in frustration as Julia zoomed past him, glaring him down as she passed.
"I'll get you one of these days, Julia! If it's the last thing I do!"
