Rolling over Kate pulled the sheet around her it somehow felt like she had only just gotten off to sleep when the door slowly creeped open. She heard the sound of feet plodding up to the bed,
"Mummy its Christmas can we see if Santa has been" Graces voice said shaking her mum
Reaching for the little alarm clock she lifted it squinting at the time.
"Gracie it is not even two am go back to bed!" Kate hissed "otherwise I will call Father Christmas to come back and collect what he has already left." she said watching as Grace plodded back out.
Putting the clock back Kate sighed. She had been expecting an early rise but not this early. Actually, she was half expecting to find Grace camped in the kitchen to try and see if she saw Santa deliver the presents.
"what did Grace want" Mike yawned rolling over looking at her, her eyes glinting in the low light
"what do you think" Kate said resting her head against his shoulder
"oh yeah" Mike smiled "by the way Merry Christmas" he smiled
"shush" Kate said closing her eyes and rolling over to try and get back to sleep. she could feel Mike as his arm wrapped over her pulling her close and his warm breath tickling the back of her neck
The door didn't open for another few hearing the door bang open this time Kate sighed sitting up looking at the clock. It was just 6 am. The sun had just begun to peek through the curtains. Feeling the sheets being pulled. Looking down she could see Grace had recruited backup in the form of Chris.
Pulling Chris under the covers she sighed as Grace climbed up jumping up and down on the bed "can we get up now see if Santa's been" she said jumping up and down on the bed. Looking over at Mike she sighed
"its up to you" Mike shrugged
"fine but daddy goes down first. Go and get your slippers on" Kate sighed
"yay!" Grace cheered jumping off the bed from standing.
Shaking her head Kate smiled. Her daughter was a real little dare devil. Leaving Chris Sat on the bed Kate slid her feet in to her own slippers, she could hear Grace edging ever closer to the stairs trying to be in stealth mode but was cackling like a banshee thinking she was going to outwit her parents
"Mike you best get to the stairs before Gracie sneaks down" Kate said walking over to the bathroom
"Gracie" Mike said walking out on to the landing "you need to wait for Mummy and Nicole" Mike warned
"but they are taking too long" Grace sighed
"just wait. If Santa has been then the presents are not going anywhere" Mike said as Kate appeared from their room holding Chris
"right I will just go and see if Nicole is okay and then we can see if Santa has been" She smield walking down the corridor.
Carefully opening the door of her daughters room she could see She was sill asleep. Or at least she looked it. Placing Chris down for a moment she watched as he walked over patting her leg till she noticed him
"what do you want Squirt" She said sleepily
"Santa's been" he said
"we're going to see if Santa has been so come on time to get up"
"cool" a smile grew across Nicoles face as she picked up her slippers
Making sure he went down first Mike stood at the door peeking in.
"oh no I don't think he has been" he said turning looking down at Grace,
"yes he has" Grace said pushing past seeing the three sacks stood in front of the fire place. "he's been He's been he's been" she called jumping around in circles
"Gracie it is only just after 6 please calm down" Kate said walking through in to the kitchen
Mike watched as Grace Dived in to the sack with her name on.
"umm Gracie let's wait for mummy to come and sit down. She has gone to do some coffee as we both need it.
Kate walked in 10 minutes later carrying 2 large mugs. Handing one to mike she sat on the sofa pulling her knees up. She had also had the foresight to bring in a bin bag for all the paper that there would be.
"can we open our presents yet" Grace asked
"go on then" Kate smiled
"yay" Grace called ripping the paper off the present she had started to open.
Kate watched as Nicole opened everything methodically taking the paper off and inspecting it, putting it to one side before pulling the next parcel out.
"look mum its heartland like that tv show we like" she smiled looking at one of the books Kate had brought her.
Grace and Chris though just pulled things out ripping the paper off as fast as they could before pulling the next one out.
Kate smiled she knew that this wouldn't last much longer and although it was a huge mess she knew she would miss it as they grew older.
so a little insight to Christmas day! i hope you enjoy. the thing Mike did joking that Santa hadn't been was something my grandad did with me and my sister as we used to stay over at my grandparents. after my grandad died my uncle carried on the tradition but we always knew he was lying. anyway i may write more on Christmas day tomorrow. but who knows. hope you all have a fab day. :D
