Logan's words land like a punch to the gut on Rory. Every word of it is true. Rory cannot deny the similarities between her and her mother. Her mother was almost 50 years old before she got married. When the reigning Lorelai was in her 30's there was failed relationship after failed relationship. Her own father was in and out of her mother's life with frequency and vigor. The irony is the similarity of her relationship with Logan and that of her parents with the concession that she and Logan were never children. Their relationship was had as adults. Rory knows that what she had with Logan was love when they were at Yale.
She said no to the proposal out of ambition, she wanted more. Rory cannot help but wonder if it was simply ambition or vanity. She was gifted, she was successful, she was driven. Those were the adjectives attributed to her character for as long as she could remember. In the cold light of day, she did not know how to be humble. The world decided to teach her how to be humble in spades. If you want to hear someone laugh, tell the universe your plans. At Yale, she wrote articles about the one percent since she was raised in humble surroundings. In reality, her world was humble until she was 16. At 16 the world of the one percent opened like an oyster and made her the pearl. With Chilton and Yale, she became a deb and an Ivy girl. Her grandparents showered her with praise, an allowance and anything she desired. Her father eventually replaced her grandparents as the fueler of her her lifestyle which continues to this day. Rory has to admit that she has not had a steady paycheck from a single employer outside of her father's company for over 5 years. Her father put her on as an employee so that she would have healthcare for the baby. Rory acknowledges that Logan spoke the truth. They had an affair and that affair has produced an heir. When she told Logan that she did not want him to marry Odette, it was the truth. Logan said it out loud. He still loves her. Logan may be with another but he loves her. She knows the right thing to do is to walk into the next room and tell Logan that she loves him yet she is frozen in place?
Jess has truly enjoyed Tess' visit. The talk of the lockdown has been prevalent. Tess got word of the suspension of classes for at least two weeks as they sip their coffee. Jess is utterly tempted to ask her to stay. He wonders if it would seem too forward. He certainly not mind another night like the night before. The reality has hit him as to how long it has been since he was in a relationship. How long it has been since he was lavished with affection. He could get used to this. Jess' mind is distracted by several texts between Chris and Matthew about the lockdown and the book press. They could move the operation remote at least for a little while but they need to get together. Jess offers for Tess to come along which Tess accepts. There is now no need to rush anywhere and she is perfectly willing to explore this a while longer.
Jess and Tess make plans to meet with Chris and Matthew. As they plan, Matthew hits up Maj to see if she can stop by for some last minute contract work so that they have enough work to sustain them through the next few weeks. Maj looks down to see the message from Truncheon light up her screen. With everything going on, she would really like to beg off but she knows that her boys will be in a position if she does beg off. Finn observes Maj glance at a text followed by a sigh and a run of her fingertips up her forehead. Finn can relate, he knows what this is like. In the brief moment alone while Wendy is gathering files and paperwork.
"So Love." Finn takes a seat on the corner of Maj's desk turning her in her chair with is feet so that they are face to face. "I have a proposal." Maj takes in the coy expression on Finn's face that usually precedes an offer that she will be simply unable to refuse. "We are going to have at least two whole weeks, why don't you wrap up everything in Philadelphia then hide out in the Hamptons with me? I promise to take lavishly good care of you." Finn winks as the punctuation to that very enticing offer. Finn knows that Maj is more than tempted. Finn would quite like some time to explore this new what ever the hell it is becoming with Maj. "I have to head to the city to wrap up a few things, come out forthwith." Finn taps Maj on the nose as he turns to leave. From the look on Maj's face, Finn knows that she will be there. Finn offers up farewell to Wendy as he passes her in the hall. Wendy is really enjoying a front row seat to Maj's love life unfolding in such spectacular fashion.
Jess arrives at the book press with is guest. As he, Matt and Chris gather in the back to discuss matters of business, Tess settles in at Jess' desk with her laptop to catch up on her email and the inner workings of her own world. Jess has offered to drive her back to Woodbridge since he has no where he will have to be. She is entertaining the idea of asking Jess if she can stay. Her parent's restaurant will be closed, Yale will be closed. She would rather not spend two weeks alone besides, she would have to quarantine from her parents any way. She seriously would not hate getting to know Jess better.
After a couple of hours of banter, discussion and exchanged philosophies as to what the near future holds, Maj wanders into the book press to shore up the near future contracts that will ensure at least a few weeks of work. Maj smiles and introduces herself to Tess before heading to join the boys. Maj was exactly what Tess pictured her to be from Jess' rather glowing description. As they dive into the work to get done, the conversation wanders to near term plans with Matthew flat out asking Maj if she is going to head to the Hamptons.
Maj's head instantly circles the wagons around her brother to find out why he is asking her where she will be. Maj wonders what the backstory will be. Normally she would hand over the keys to her kingdom to Matthew or Jess but right now, with both Logan and Rory occupying her space that would be a rather toxic idea. Hell, half the reason she is definitely Long Island bound is because her own house is the last place she wants to be. The mere thought of being stuck in a house with Rory with no escape is motivation enough to take Finn up on his offer. Adding Logan, the baby daddy and someone else's hubby to be... no thank you too much drama. It occurs to Maj that she could likely count the days on two hands that she has spent in her own house. She can only hope that trapping Logan and Rory together might finally bring about an ending to this persistent issue. From her conversations with Wendy from the afternoon, Maj knows that Logan's love life may be the least of her Huntzberger worries.
