Chapter 84: The Second Coming
Roget sat in his office, pondering over the results of the last duel. Needless to say, he was rather pleased with the results. Divine was nothing more than a madman, but he could easily be controlled with the right methods. Yuya, however, was something else. The utter destruction, the power, it was dare he say...beautiful. Yuya would prove very useful in his plans.
"Let me go!"
Ah, right on time.
Roget turned around to face the door, where his security guards dragged Yuya in, having collected him the second his duel had finished.
"Ah, Yuya Sakaki, a pleasure. Thank you gentleman, you may leave."
His guards nodded and exited swiftly, leaving the two of them alone.
"Congratulations on advancing to round 3. Your duel with Divine certainly was...interesting."
"Will...will he be alright?"
Roget feigned empathy.
"His injuries are grave, but with the expert medical attention of our infirmary he'll pull through. However, I doubt he'll ever be the same."
Yuya glanced down in shame, missing the sadistic smirk on Roget's face. He had Yuya right where he wanted him.
"I understand the guilt you're feeling, but trust me when I say he doesn't deserve the empathy. He belonged to a cult of psychic duelists that caused New Domino City no end of pain and suffering. True, there were those among their ranks that were misled about their true intentions, or truly believed they were in the right, but Divine was nothing more than a sadistic monster who loved causing pain, no matter who his target was. Besides, this was bound to happen sooner or later. The thing about Psychic duelists is that the damage in their duels is real for both duelists not just them. He knew the risks, and forged on in his evil intentions. Your hands are clean of any wrong doing, do you understand?"
"I... I think so."
"Good. But that's not the reason why I brought you here. You see, I need your help."
Yuya glanced up in surprise.
"My help?"
Roget nodded, walking over to the large windows behind his desk revealing the cityscape below.
"Yes. You see, I know all about Duel Academy and their intentions. And I happen to know that they plan on invading this dimension next."
"But how? The only person who could know that is...no..."
"Yes. I am from the Fusion Dimension, and Duel Academy."
Yuya gasped in shock, but said nothing while Roget continued.
"I was sent here three years ago as an advance scout. At first I played my part, relaying secrets and important information I had found out. However, over time I empathized with the populace. Their leaders were inept, the police corrupt, and over half of them lived in escapable poverty. I knew what lay in store for them under Leo Akaba's fist, and I couldn't bring myself to let it happen. So I cut off all ties with my home, letting them believe I had perished when my identity had been discovered. For the last three years I've been building my forces to protect my new home. But I fear that with the intervention of you lancers, one of whom a former student himself, that Duel Academy will accelerate their plans and attack soon enough. The only way to protect the dimensions is to work together. So Yuya, will you help me?"
Yuya thought for a minute before giving a short but blunt answer.
"No."
"Pardon?"
"You can sit here and tell me you want to do what's best for the city all you want, but I can see the truth. You don't care about anyone but yourself. If you actually empathized with The Commons, you would use your power to help them. But all you do is oppress them farther. You want to stop Duel Academy just so you can rule unopposed. You're no hero, you're just as sadistic as Divine."
Roget sighed. He had seen this coming, he had just hoped it wouldn't.
"If only you weren't so smart. Guards!"
Before Yuya could react, the two guards from before rushed in and grabbed him by the arms, restraining him once more.
"Take Mr. Sakaki here to his new accommodations. Perhaps a little reeducation will help him see some sense."
Yuya struggled to get away, but the guards were too strong and they carried him out, still thrashing in vain. Roget sighed and returned to his desk. He was about to return to his work when his phone buzzed. Picking it up, he found it to be Zigsix.
"What is it?"
"Sir, its happening! They're here, they're- No, stay back! Please, have-"
The call cut off at that point, leaving Roget to sink in annoyance. He knew exactly what his assistant meant.
"Great, just what I need. Another headache."
Duel Academy had arrived.
