Chapter 86: Free For All
Back in the council's quarters, the council and Declan watched the carnage unfold in worry.
"This is madness! These Duel Academy barbarians are destroying our city!"
"Indeed. Something must be done at once!"
"Release all the participants. They're our best chance of fending off these invaders."
"Are you mad? Once this whole thing blows over, we intend to start right back up with the tournament. We let them out, and we'll never see them again."
Declan pinched his nose in annoyance. These old coots were by far the most annoying people he had ever had the displeasure to meet.
"Perhaps you don't understand the gravity of the situation. If these agents of Fusion are allowed to roam free, they won't stop until the whole city is in ruins. There won't be any Tops, no Commons, no tournament, only rubble."
Realizing Declan was correct, White Taki turned to Sam, their page.
"Tell Security to unlock all rooms at once. But keep the Under grounders where they are!"
Sam nodded feebly and ran to do as he was told. Sighing, the council turned to Declan.
"You'd better be right about this, Declan.
"Believe me, I hope I am."
Crow watched the carnage from his window, fists clenched in anger.
"Dammit, if only I could..."
Just then, the door to his room opened, confusing him. Stepping out, he found the Lancers and Luna stepping out into the corridor, equally as puzzled.
"You guys see the bloodshed out there? What's going on?"
"Duel Academy's on the scene. We need to get out there!"
Carefully making their way through the building, they managed to reach the ground floor and onto the streets. Along the way they met up with Gong, who had been healing in the infirmary since his duel with Kalin. Once they made sure the coast was clear, Crow grabbed his helmet and set his duel disk to standby.
"Alright, I'm gonna grab my duel runner and head to the commons. No doubt they'll use the pandemonium to revolt, and I want to make sure the kids are alright. You guys head for town hall and reach Declan. You guys be safe."
"You too, Crow."
With that, the two groups parted ways.
"Alright, let's go find Declan!"
"You're not going anywhere."
Everyone turned to see Barrett lurching towards them, duel disk raised for battle.
"You may have repelled us in Standard, but you won't be so lucky this time! Now, which one of you shall fall by my blade?"
Gong stepped forward, unsteady but determined.
"Gong will take you on."
"Are you sure about this? You're still in pretty rough shape."
"This is nothing, but Gong won't stand still and let these madmen destroy another world. So bring it on!"
"Your courage is admirable, but misplaced."
DUEL!
Gong: 4000
Barrett: 4000
"Gong will start off with Superheavy Samurai Kabuto in attack mode. Your move, cyclops."
"Hmm, interesting. I'll start with the spell card Card Destruction. Now we both discard our current hands and draw a new one equal to the amount we discarded."
They did so, their faces remaining stoic as the exchange occurred.
"Now I activate the spell card Beastborg Fusioner, sending Panther Warrior and Dark Sentinel to fusion summon Beastborg Panther Predator, in attack mode!"
"Too bad you activated Kabuto's special ability! When you special summon a monster, he switches to defense mode with 500 extra defense points (2000-2500)! Good luck getting past that. "
"I don't need to. Once per turn, I can inflict damage to you equal to half of its attack points."
Gong braced himself as the attack hit its mark, pushing him back only slightly
Gong: 3200
"Nice play, but it'll take more than that to keep Gong down"
"So it'd seem. I place two cards face down and end my turn. Your move."
"Gee, thanks. First, I special summon Superheavy Samurai Trumpeter by his own effect. Next, I tribute both of them to summon Superheavy Samurai Big Benkei! And when Trumpeter is tributed while I have no spell or trap cards in the graveyard, he comes right back! Now I tune him with Big Benkei to Synchro Summon Superheavu Samurai Susawono in defense mode! And if you think that's bad, I'm equiping him with Superheavy Samurai Soulshield Wall to give him an extra 1200 defense point (3800-5000). Now take out his pussy cat!"
"Are you a fool? You can't attack with monsters that are in defense mode!"
"Ordinarily, you'd be correct. But my Susawono can bypass that restriction and use his defense points for damage calculation!"
Gong's samurai pulverized the mechanical panther, causing Barrett to shield himself from the shockwaves.
Barrett: 600
"I activate my face down, Beastborg Medal of the Shield! For every 100 points of damage I recieved, my trap gains a counter. And since Panther Predator was destroyed, I can summon back the monsters I used to summon it."
22 medals appeared on Barrett's card.
"Is that supposed to scare Gong? Gong ends his turn. Your move, one eye."
"And it will be my , I use the effect of Medal of the Shield, destroying it to give Panther Predator 2200 attack points (1600-3800). Now, I activate Limiter Removal, doubling its attack points (3800-7600). This is it. I' Panther Predator's effect once more to inflict half his attack to you!"
But Gong was more than prepared.
"I activate the effect of Superheavy Samurai Soulbang Cannon in my graveyard! By banishing it, I can negate your Panther's effect!"
Gong's suit of armor sucked in the energy wave, glowing hot and bright.
"What's more, all monsters on the field are destroyed, and we each take 1000 points of damage!"
"What? But when did-"
Realization soon hit Barrett.
"I sent that card to the graveyard with Card Destruction."
"Yep. Thanks for setting up your own defeat!"
The suit of armor exploded, sending them both flying back. But while Gong managed to stay on his feet, Barrett hit a wall out cold.
Gong: 2200
Barrett: 0000
Gong wins!
Gong dusted himself off before checking Barrett's pulse.
"He's alive, but he won't be getting up anytime soon."
"Well, let's get out of here before he does!"
They quickly did so, hoping to reach the council without much more trouble.
Up on a rooftop high above the city, three figures stepped out of a dimensional portal, scanning the cityscape.
"About time we got back to invading. Those losers back at Duel Academy are so boring to beat!"
"We're not here to have fun, Yuri! The Professor gave us an important mission, remember?"
"Oh, lighten up, Serena. Just because we're here on business doesn't mean we can't have a little fun."
Their leader sighed in annoyance, all to used to their squabbling.
"Serena's right. You too know your targets, so hop to it. I have bigger fish to fry."
"Yes, Kaiser."
With that, the two youths parkoured their way down, ready to fullfill their assignment. Their leader turned to the center of town, his coattails flailing in the wind.
"Get ready, Declan Akaba. You're about to face hell."
