December 19

Our house has been filled with so much Christmas cheer for the past couple of days.

Yesterday, Inuyasha and I went out to cut down our tree. I rode on his back and he took me to a place where there were a lot of fir trees growing. So we walked through the forest to try to pick one out.

"How about this one?" Inuyasha said, pointing to the first massive tree he saw.

"It has to be able to fit in our living room," I reminded him. "We also have to be able to carry it."

We walked for a bit longer and he pointed out another one, this one much smaller.

"This one?"

I examined it. "Hmm, it's not fluffy enough."

We went through a few others.

"Damn it, Kagome, we're going to end up going through all of them before you actually pick one!"

I giggled. "I'm going to pick one soon, I promise! We just need to make sure it's the right one."

Inuyasha pointed out another tree. "I think this is a good one."

Finally, I nodded in agreement. "Yup, this is the one!"

Inuyasha cut it down with the tetsusaiga and we took it back to our house. We made room for it in the corner of the living room. I set up a pot of dirt for it to sit in and explained to Inuyasha that we have to water it every day or else the house will burn down.

"You didn't tell me this was going to be so dangerous!"

"Calm down, that hardly ever happens anyway."

Then we decorated it with whatever we could find. We spent the afternoon making our own ornaments and hung them up with strands of yarn. I made a garland to wrap around the tree with little bows attached. Inuyasha even fashioned a metal star and put it at the top of the tree.

I'd say we did a pretty good job with what we had. It's not quite the same as back home, but we did it together so it's enough. It also really means a lot to me that Inuyasha would want to do this with me.

Today Inuyasha went to the market with Miroku. I told him if he finds anything nice to hang on the tree to get it.

Normally I would go to the market with him, but I had something important to take care of so I stayed home.

For Inuyasha's gift, I'm knitting him a scarf. I've never been very good at knitting, honestly. I'd tried it a few times back in my era and I guess I was okay at it but I couldn't do anything spectacular. One time when we were at the market months ago I had picked up some yarn and knitting needles thinking it would be fun to get into it but I hadn't picked it up. I guess now is as good a time as any to try.

So while Inuyasha was gone for most of the afternoon, I settled myself on the couch in front of the fire to see what I could do. At first, it was a disaster. I almost got rid of it. I was so disappointed. Inuyasha deserved an amazing gift from my heart and I didn't know what else to do.

After moping around for a while, I decided enough was enough. I wasn't going to get anywhere with this if I gave up. I picked up the knitting needles and tried again.

I've actually managed to do a pretty good job. I've still got a long way to go but if I keep this up I'll definitely be able to finish in time to give this to him.
