December 21
I worked on Inuyasha's scarf a little bit while he was out getting firewood this morning. It's coming along so well! I can't wait for him to see it. I just hope he likes it…
I also went to Kaede's house today. We were supposed to be doing miko things but then Sango came over to say hi so the three of us, along with Rin, just spent our afternoon talking and having tea. I also told Kaede and Rin about me and Inuyasha's trip and they thought it was just as interesting as Miroku and Sango had.
While we were having tea, I noticed Kaede had mistletoes hanging up near the entryway.
"Kaede, why do you have those mistletoes hanging up?" I asked.
"Oh they're just so decorative that I like to put them up during the winter months," Kaede said with a smile. "Kikyo used to like to hang them up when I was a child and I guess it just kind of stuck."
"That's so nice," Sango said.
"There's a neat little thing that we do with mistletoes in my era," I said.
"Really? What do you do?"
"We also hang them up during the winter but there's also another reason," I replied. "They're associated with love. If you and your significant other stands under a mistletoe together, you're supposed to kiss."
"That's so cute!" Rin said excitedly. "Did you ever kiss anyone under a mistletoe, Kagome?"
I giggled. "Oh no, never. There wasn't anyone special in my era for me to kiss."
"I'm sure if I had a mistletoe hanging up in my house I'd never get anything done," Sango said thoughtfully.
Kaede laughed. "I know your husband would have you under the mistletoe all day."
Sango giggled. "Knowing him, I don't doubt that."
It wasn't much later that Inuyasha arrived. He had said he'd be there this afternoon to come to get me and as always he kept his word.
"Hey, ladies," he said as he came through the door.
I got up and went over to hug him. "I've missed you, honey."
"I've missed you too, love," he said, hugging me back.
I noticed that Kaede, Sango, and Rin were giggling. Inuyasha looked extremely confused. "What's the matter with you?" he asked.
Sango pointed above us and I started blushing profusely when I noticed we were standing under the mistletoe.
Inuyasha was still confused. "So what?" He looked at me. "And why are you blushing so much?"
"Kagome was telling us how in her era when you stand under a mistletoe you're supposed to kiss," Rin said, clearly excited about the whole thing.
Now Inuyasha was blushing as well. "Really?"
I nodded sheepishly.
Without hesitation, Inuyasha brushed his fingers across my cheek and lifted my chin. I closed my eyes as he leaned into me. Our lips connected for a sweet, passionate kiss.
"Awww!" everyone else exclaimed.
It made me blush even more. "You guys…"
Inuyasha just laughed and kissed me again.
