Fitz came downstairs with Savannah and Sabastian in his arms. They would not sleep. He smiled at the glass of wine on the coffee table and the container of breastmilk next to it. Olivia was pumping more milk before she drank her wine.

"Are you thinking about Karen going to Virginia?"

"I want Karen to be happy."

"Mellie can't replace you."

"I know that. I will always be mom. Karen wants me when she has a fever and needs medicine. She depends on me for everything."

"You don't treat her differently now that we have the triplets. Thank you for that."

"Karen is my child. Thanking me is an Insult. I'm struggling trying to give them all attention."

"The babies are happy."

"They don't complain yet."

"What if Karen wants to spend more time with Mellie after our first trip to Virginia. Are you okay with that?"

"Yes, If Mellie respects my rules. Karen is not her child. I'm okay with them knowing each other as daughter and birthmother. She can't be mom."

"I don't think Mellie will give you problems. Karen will give you problems when she is older. Livvie, she's going to have three younger siblings at our house. She might want to spend more time with Mellie when she wants individual attention."

"I'm not reversing the adoption. Mellie will never be Karen's mom."

Fitz knew he would have to eventually choose a side. Karen or Livvie if Karen wanted a closer relationship with Mellie. He would always be her dad. An adoption certificate made Olivia her mom. Would he not allow Karen to have a closer bond with Mellie because he didn't want to hurt Livvie?

"Karen's happiness should always be what's important." He said, before changing the subject. "I wonder why Jake left."

"Kelly isn't white. She's the mayor's baby. He's a black activist."

"What?!"

Olivia showed Fitz the picture Mellie sent to her phone.

"She has a black baby. Kelly is darker than our triplets. How did her color change that fast?"

"It's common for black and mixed babies to get darker. Their hair probably won't stay really silky like it is now."

"Okay, this is a dumb question. Is there anything else I should know about mixed babies?"

"You're doing great Fitz."

"They won't sleep."

Both babies were calm and wide awake. Fitz gave the babies to Olivia.

"You had a bottle a few minutes ago. I know you're not hungry. That milk is for later. You're not wet, so why aren't you sleepy Savannah and Sabastian?"

"Do you run out of milk?" Fitz asked, looking at the two filled containers.

Olivia laughed, "Yeah, it slows down for about half an hour."

"Are Mellie and the mayor a couple now?"

"He wants to be a family with Mellie and Kelly."

"This will make things more complicated for Karen. If Mellie somehow becomes a great mom to Kelly, Karen will demand more from Mellie."

"We are not going to keep having this conversation. I don't care if Mellie becomes Mary Poppins. She will always be her birthmother. I can respect that. She is not taking Karen from me."

Fitz knew things were changing. He knew Marcus Walker. He met with him before he started his engineering project in Virginia. He would be good for Mellie. Karen was getting older, and she might ask to live with them one day. He wasn't ready to make that decision.

"Bring me two bottles and pour out my wine."

"Okay Livvie."
