January 15

I've noticed the cat wandering our backyard every now and then over the past few days. I'm starting to wonder whether or not it actually has a home.

It finally snowed last night and it snowed a lot. We got about two feet! I used to get really excited about snow days because that meant no school. I guess those old habits haven't disappeared yet. Inuyasha thinks my excitement is amusing.

I also found myself looking out the back window for the cat a few times this morning and I didn't see it. I hope the poor thing hasn't frozen to death. I made it another plate of food and put it out on the back porch. While I was out there I looked across the vast expanse of snow but I couldn't find it. I just hope the cat is okay.

"Kagome, come inside out of the cold!" Inuyasha called from inside the house.

"Coming!" I scanned the yard one more time and still couldn't find the cat. So I finally went back inside and sat on the couch with Inuyasha.

"What were you doing out there?" he asked as he rubbed my hands to warm them up.

"Nothing important." I felt like Inuyasha would think I was ridiculous for worrying so much about a stray cat.

Soon after, there was a knock on our door and Shippo was there. "You guys, it snowed!"

"Obviously," Inuyasha replied.

Shippo stuck his tongue out at him and Inuyasha did the same. It made me giggle, these two are so immature.

"Miroku and Sango are taking the kids out to play. You should come."

So Inuyasha and I went to get ready. I put on a coat and gloves and Inuyasha put on the scarf I made him. Then we went outside with Shippo.

"Inuyasha, aren't your feet cold?" Shippo asked.

"Keh! My feet don't get cold."

I believed it. Inuyasha has been going around barefoot for so long, I'm pretty sure his calluses are so thick he doesn't feel anything on the bottoms of his feet anymore.

We found Miroku and Sango outside with their children who were bundled up in their winter clothes. The twins were running through the snow in excitement. To our surprise, Kohaku was also with them. Apparently, he had come by for a visit last night.

"Looks like someone's enjoying their snow day," Inuyasha said.

"The magic of a snow day for small children is truly fascinating," Miroku said.

"Hey, kids, who wants to learn how to make a snow angel?" I said.

That got them really excited. I showed them what to do and they immediately laid down in the snow to make one. Between all of us, we'd made about 20 snow angels before long.

Then we started building a snowman. By then, Rin arrived and wanted to join in. While we were working on that I started humming "Do you want to build a snowman?"

"What song is that, Kagome?" Rin asked as we were gathering snow for the middle of it.

"It's from a movie in my era." I ended up explaining to all of them the plot of Frozen.

The twins became fascinated by it and started running around pretending to have ice powers. Meanwhile, Rin found "Do you want to build a snowman?" catchy started singing it while we worked on the snowman.

Once that was done, Mieko said the snowman was lonely so we ended up building him a wife. Then we ended up making an entire snow family.

Inuyasha was helping the girls put the finishing touch on the snowman. Then Shippo whispered to me, "We should throw a snowball at him."

I giggled. "You think so?" I whispered back.

"Do it!" Rin said to us, having overheard the conversation.

Then Miroku stepped in. "Even better, we should all throw a snowball at him."

"I like the way you think," I said.

So the four of us gathered up balls of snow. Miroku counted down and then we threw our snowballs and they all hit Inuyasha in the back at the same time.

"AH!" he shouted while we all stifled laughs. Then he turned around to see all of us pretending to be innocent. "Who did it?!"

We all pointed to each other.

"Alright, if that's how you're going to be." Inuyasha created a snowball of his own and threw it. The four of us dispersed but it ended up hitting me.

I threw one at him but he jumped out of the way and it hit Kohaku instead.

An all-out snowball war began from there. Between all of us, snowballs were flying from all directions as we ran back and forth across the yard. We ended up building forts. Inuyasha jumped up into a tree and launched snowballs at us from there. Shippo did the same from the roof. Kohaku got Kirara on his team and rode around on her back throwing snowballs at all of us. Miroku used his staff as a bat to knock snowballs away from him and at someone else. You could say we were all taking this way too seriously.

We were having so much fun, we didn't notice when Sesshomaru and Jaken arrived. What he had intended to be a nice trip to the village to see Rin closely didn't turn out the way he had planned.

I threw a snowball and intended to hit Inuyasha with it but he jumped out of the way and instead it hit Sesshomaru in the face.

Everyone was silent for a moment unsure of how Sesshomaru would react. There was a hard glare on his face as he wiped the snow from it.

"How dare you!" Jaken exclaimed. "How dare you hit a great demon lord like Sesshomaru in that face with a ball of snow! Have some respect!"

"Sesshomaru, I'm so sorry…!" I began.

But Inuyasha seemed to find the whole thing hysterically funny. He burst into a fit of laughter, all the while Sesshomaru's anger seemed to grow.

Sesshomaru seemed to find his brother's laughing at his expense more annoying than my snowball. So he made a snowball of his own and it hit Inuyasha so hard that it knocked him over.

The snowball fight resumed, now with Sesshomaru involved. Jaken ran and hit behind a tree to avoid it all. It was interesting, I think I might have seen a hint of a smile on Sesshomaru's face.
